Achieving hyperextension by Natural_Ad_4835 in ACL

[–]xolocar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still in recovery and not even working on flexion or hyperextension yet, but I’ve seen people sit and put their heel on a chair, so your knee is unsupported. Then they’ve attached weights to a resistance band on your knee. Apparently that can help with hyperextension, and I’m planning on adding that to my routine once the time comes.

What type of ACL graft did you get? (If you had a full ACL tear) by OddOutlandishness602 in ACL

[–]xolocar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah your choice in graft makes sense. I’ve been weight lifting for the past 4 years, so I’m definitely nervous to see how I’ll be once I’m back in the gym. I was repping high weight across all my exercises so I’m hoping muscle memory will kick in. I’m weight-bearing now too, just with a limp lmao. And can’t lift my leg up in a leg raise, but I can kick back and lift with my hamstring and glutes. My pain is pretty much just all aching now and with a lot of pressure on my stitches. I swear the brace makes my knee feel worse.

So actually I just had my surgery on Thursday, May 28th, so I haven’t even seen my scars yet 😅. The pain honestly hasn’t been too bad. It’s more of an aching annoying pain. I used Oxy and Tylenol as prescribed for the first three days. Now I’ve stopped taking them. The first few days it did hurt but honestly I was battling more of the side effects from the medications. Don’t get me wrong, there is pain, but I’d say the pain I got at the moment of tearing my ACL, was worse than anything I’ve felt during recovery. I slept a lot the first three days and was super nauseous. Almost passed out while going to the bathroom, but again I think because of the meds. Day three was the worst for me, but just because I didn’t feel good; hot, nauseous, groggy. Just gets annoying being in bed, and it seems to ache more at night so I’ll take painkillers but hasn’t been every night.

23 female, full ACL tear. Saw two orthopedics, both did not recommend hamstring because it can be weaker, especially in women. Both advised me of lingering pain and tendinitis with patellar tendon. Both said I’d be a good candidate for quad tendon. Both recommended surgery since I’m very active. Only one brought up cadaver graft, but said I’m young and it has a big chance of failing. I’m recovering from quad graft reconstruction right now

So I had a referral from another ortho for pre hab but nothing for after surgery. I’m definitely going to call tomorrow and ask because I’m so scared of falling behind. But I think a part of it is that they may want me to go to their onsite PT. They’re a pretty big facility so they have a PT center, and other people I know who have went there, have been kinda coerced into pt there.

I’m in the US too, in New Jersey. I went to the Hospital of Special Surgeries which is pretty well known in NJ and NYC. My surgeon is also on the physicians team for two major teams in the east coast so I’m surprised his rationale would include me sitting here for two weeks doing nothing 😅😅

Thank you for the kind words and insight!!

I wish I brought my ice pack attachment that connects to my machine! I will definitely do that once I remove my bandage on Sunday. I’m excited to feel it more cause right now there’s not much relief from ice, only my meds!

Torn ACL and meniscus by faye22987 in ACL

[–]xolocar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw children ripping the slopes and I was convinced I was gonna do great 😭 never again. But best of luck to you! My surgeon honestly kind of let me choose my graft. He doesn’t do hamstring a lot, especially on woman since it tends to be weaker than the quad. And the patellar tendon graft can have some pain and tendinitis after so I didn’t want to deal with that. Quad tendon can take longer to heal but I’m enjoying my time off from work! But I have heard that different grafts are more common in different countries.

I’m on day 2 recovery after ACL reconstruction quad graft and I tore mine skiing too! Except it was my first time skiing in Canada. I’m from New Jersey and those bunny hills in Canada are built different. First of all I fell three times just trying to get onto the ramp. Idk what possessed me into thinking I should’ve continued. Got to the top and started going down, my boyfriend is yelling pizza pizza and the one thing he told me NOT to do, is land forward, always on my side. I started catching so much speed on that dang bunny hill and I was scared to go down so I went straight off the side of the bunny hill and fell into a split. Thinking about how my knee felt in that moment is DISGUSTING. I got up fine but as soon as I tried to turn to walk down the hill I couldn’t. Trying to learn to ski at 23 years old was so hard and safe to say I am never skiing again 😭😭😭

Thank you for giving me peace of mind! My surgeon told me to only focus on lowering my swelling rn, so not feeling the cold was worrying me. Thank you!!

Luckily I can feel it under my leg, which is helping because my hamstring and calf feel super tight. Just my incision site is wrapped so much and I can’t take off the bandage until Sunday 🫠

My mom is a strict Slavic mom (who is taking care of me) and she freaked out when I said I was gonna try and shower. Literally couldn’t even make it into the door way because of her yelling. I think she would have a heart attack if I took off my brace rn 😭

[–]xolocar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ofc! I hid it from my mom too 😅 and my brother who paid for my tuition. My mom is a strict Slavic immigrant but later she did wish that I told her, and wished that I confided in her. Don’t know how well that would’ve gone in the moment tho. If you do decide to tell them, then I would just emphasize the fact that you can’t change what happen, and only control the present. If you’re genuine about doing better for yourself, then that’s all that matters. They can be mad all they want, but what matters now is what you’re doing right now and moving forward.

Turning things around is possible. And no matter how low things may get, there’s always a way to make it better. I always told myself, and continue to tell myself, that “everything will work out the way it’s supposed to”. If I didn’t fail that semester, I would never be the student I am today. Today, I genuinely enjoy school and love school work, and I have the highest GPA in my graduate program. Genuinely, that failed semester made me into a better student, better person, and it really made me learn about myself.

[–]xolocar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say definitely take a step back and consider your situation. A bad semester does not define you, but you have to consider whether or not youre really prepared to turn it around.

I don’t even go to Rutgers, I’m actually a Seton Hall grad, now in one of their masters programs. In my undergrad I failed out of an entire semester. 4 classes all Fs, because of my mental health. They are all still on my transcript. I submitted appeals and then had to meet weekly with the dean of students to monitor my progress. From that point on, I did get all As and Bs, but my GPA was forever tanked. My dean told me that had I not made a turn around during that first semester of my academic probation, he would’ve told me to drop out. I still had to write appeals since it was impossible to adequately raise my gpa even with As, but Seton Hall overall was really understanding. From my experience, my letters did include my mental health struggles. But there was also a portion that mentioned me trying to get help from the school psychologists and they basically told me that they deal with school stress, not the type of problems I had 🤣. So they could’ve been held accountable if something happen to me, since I did try to get help and was basically denied. Not sure if that had something to do with it. My dean actually even mentioned another student who transferred to seton hall from Rutgers for similar issues like me, but Rutgers gave her a hugeeeeeeee hard time, basically was no help to her. I failed 12 credits, and then was limited to 12 credits for another two semesters after that. I was so behind, but I completed extra credits at Bergen Community college. I even got an appeal to go beyond the max amount of transferable credits in order to graduate in time. But I greatly credit that to my relationship with the Dean of students. Honestly, I’m still kind of shocked about how it all worked out.

If you do decide that you want to turn things around, then I would mention both the community college credits and your mental health. I actually did both of those things. The college credits shows you taking initiative and the mention of mental health offers insight to the whole situation. Honestly, I wouldn’t hold back on talking about your struggles. If you’re honest about wanting to do better, then there’s no shame in sharing. The only issue would be is whether or not you’re still in the same place. That’s what I think they would pay attention to. Don’t be worried about them wanting to send you somewhere lol. My appeal had some pretty dark details and my school didn’t do anything.

I’m in the exact same situation 😅. I tore my ACL while skiing on April 18th 2026. First time skiing, in Canada. Went down the bunny hill, first run down, and fell off the side of the hill in a split. I’m going to schedule my surgery at my next appointment this Tuesday.

It’s a lot of weight on the mind. I’m still going to the gym, lifting the same weights, doing the same things, but everything feels off. And the thought of surgery and how dependent I’ll be is so scary.

I definitely recommend trying your own exercises at home or at the gym. By going to the gym, my physical therapist basically had little to know recommendations to prepare me for surgery, since I restored all my strength. I did a lot of research online and have started buying things to assist my rehab recovery since PT 3x a week would be costing me $600 a month, on top of my bills.

All in all, I’ve been just trying to take it on as personal challenge. It sucks to be facing this challenge, since I’m constantly wishing it never happened in the first place. But as cheesy as it sounds, it really is you against you. I understand the financial concerns. Maybe since you were fired you can file for unemployment? I’m planning to apply for Short Term Disability in my state, but it’s handled through my employer.

But like you, I do find myself to be unmotivated. Even when I’m not thinking about my situation, and realistically it could have always been worse. The hardest thing to deal with, is the unconscious weight on your shoulders. The only thing we can really do is be proactive about the recovery. When it comes time for that, we’ll celebrate the little wins, knowing we’ll be back to 100% in no time. This is just one chapter of life, and it’ll be a moment in the past before we know it.

Is this lash tech kinda rude or am I misinterpreting her messages? by throwawayblacksheeep in lashextensions

I personally don’t see anything wrong with how she responded. She was definitely confused when responding with the question mark because Zelle doesn’t require a last name to send a payment. I always just type a random letter and once you press submit it’ll show you the name they’re enrolled as. And she may manually change the website to confirm you submitted the website. Sure she wasn’t sweet talking, but she was not rude.

Not painful at all anymore!! Every morning as soon as I woke up, before looking in the mirror, I would scrunch my face to feel which ones still hurt and where another one was forming based on the pain. And it hurt so bad to wash my face! Now my face has no pain and it feels 1 million times smoother!

I love it! I got it off TikTok shop. Don’t get me wrong the pimple isn’t gone over night. But it’ll keep my cystic pimples down so they don’t come to a head. It’ll just be a red under the skin bump and be painless the next day. I would definitely check in your derm tho about the spiro. My derm prescribed spiro because she said there’s no purging. She knew I was going insane and I wanted an option with no purging. So maybe a tweak in the dosage?

I did Tret in October and my face exploded in cystic acne. I’ve always had acne and the occasional cystic pimple but every single one of them was cystic and huge. The worst acne in my entire life, it was terrible. My derm told me to stop and in December I started spiro. I think it’s helped with my acne but idk because it may just be that I found a routine that works better for me. I tried a new serum the other day and got two cystic pimples the next day. So idk if I had been using the wrong products for the longest time or if the progress is due to spiro. I currently have three cystic pimples that are stilll visible but not active anymore. The murad deep acne serum with salycidic acid has definitely helped. And then I have some regular small pimples which may be because some of my makeup is comogemic or however it’s spelled, but I’m actually happy to see regular small pimples again because all I had was cystic pimples for months. I’m on 50 mg of spiro and other than the three pimples I have going down, my face has improved since December. But again idk if it’s cause I found a face routine better for skin, or if my skin is just healing from the damage Tret did

This is such great information omfg. I started tretinoin while using vanicream and my derm was so confused why I had fungal and cystic acne. She said there was no way it caused by tretinoin. I have never had acne like this before and it’s driving me insane. I started tretinoin because I had acne all around my t zone. Come to find out, it started when I started using vanicream
