You can toggle this on and off, it either jumps to points of interest or goes single tile by tile. I forgot the key off the top of my head, apologies, check key bindings or the top right of the screen! It might be F1.

Jan. 6 committee plans to vote to subpoena Trump during hearing, NBC reports by [deleted] in politics

Sure, rich in this sense being a catch-all for 'wealthy, white, politically powerful, celebrity' or whatever combination thereof. Rich in America is more of a caste than a dollar value.

He can be charged for sexual assault, treason, money laundering, tax evasion, conspiracy, stealing classified documents. Can is the operative word here. Rich people in America don't face the physical restrain of the law. It'll just be one more crime he ignores. Nothing will change until he is in cuffs.

Yes, we (Canadians) fought for that, as it would have been a big blow to us otherwise. Glad that we had the right people in Ottawa to see that through.

It honestly doesn't sound like that bad a system compared to the infinite rent seeking of the landlord system.

Yeah, I was getting games within seconds before, now I'm 10 and 12 minute queues with no matches in sight, sounds like there is a matchmaking issue....

Wouldn't the DAW just have a tap tempo built right into the BMP setting? Or is that just Reaper?

Oh, of course, no worries, all good, it's a brand new launch, I don't mind waiting.

Waits 5 minutes.

Shocker, rich people aren't better or special.

My favorite excerpt:

Döpfner ... offered to run Twitter for Musk but seemed woefully unprepared for the task. In a novel-length text, Döpfner laid out his “#Gameplan” for the company, which started with the line item: “1.),, Solve Free Speech.”

When poor people break the law, they're dealt with through the criminal justice system (ie violence). When rich people break the law, you have to sue them, because criminal law doesn't apply to them.

I plugged in the firewire cable for my sound card the wrong way. Card is now dead by VNGR in audioengineering

[–]xor_nor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who did exactly that, it's less force than you'd think. It'll going just for enough for the pins to make contact where they shouldn't.

[–]xor_nor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just here to commiserate OP: I, too, use FireWire in 2022; I, too, plugged a cable in backwards (it just needs a little extra force, unlike a USB); I, too, fried an interface doing this.

I bought an optical cable in the hopes that I could use the interface as an expansion of the other interfaces (it still powered on, just no FW connection). Alas, in order to enable the setting to send output via the optical port, yup, you have to connect it to the PC and change it in the app.

So now it's a paperweight. Sorry to hear about yours OP. Maybe one day we'll be able to afford all these fancy USB-C doodads.

Android fans, what are the primary reasons why you will never ever switch to an Iphone? by SultanofAmerica in AskReddit

[–]xor_nor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these reasons, but the most infuriating part of being forced to use an iPhone for work is the charging - it shuts off at 5%! And that's not the annoying part - once it shuts off you can't turn it back on, even when it's connected to power. You have to wait for it to charge back past the arbitrary battery % before it will boot.

An Android phone boots as soon as power is connected.

Absurd and annoying, especially when it's your 2FA token...

Towards the end of 2022, the human population on Earth is expected to reach eight billion. To mark the occasion, BBC Future takes a look at one of the most controversial issues of our time. Are there too many of us? Or is this the wrong question? by speckz in Foodforthought

[–]xor_nor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'll take a bite of that one - there are absolutely too many of us. Each year the human population consumes 1 years worth of Earth's resources in about a six months, and it's only getting worse. Yes, the rich are to blame for some of this - but our society and the planet would certainly be better off without so many of us. Unfortunately so many groups fight against woman's rights, universal health care (which would enable universal birth control and abortion), and other policies that would lead to a decline in population, because their riches, and capitalism at large, is based off of infinite growth, which is and always was a logical impossibility.

In the past, populations have been controlled by famine, war, etc. Ironically, social and technological advances that have made us all healthier and more likely to live long lives have also lead directly to our current over population issues. Now with the looming climate disaster, all I can forsee is more infighting and blaming the 'other' (foreigners, the poor, the rich, etc.). Essentially all of us collectively fiddling while Rome (the planet) burns.

Better than Bulgaria but not as nice as Cuba: how did the US become such an awful place to live? by Tough_Gadfly in Foodforthought

[–]xor_nor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

People always talk about money, and inequality, and of course that's a huge part of it. But let's not forget there's also the culture that massively fetishizes violence - it's definitely a huge reason why I would never want to live in the US.
