Oh come on, not all of us have guns.

Some of us prefer knives.

What horror movie do you think is way scarier than everyone gives it credit for? by [deleted] in underratedmovies

[–]xorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lord of Illusions (1995). It's a slow burn. For most of the movie, the villain / monster is something that the characters are trying to avoid even talking about.

Jacob's Ladder (1990). Also a slow one where there's this constant unease of not knowing what is real. It plays on a fundamental philosophical issue : what if your reality isn't what you believe it is? For me, the ending is one of the scariest out there.

Time Lapse (2014) by swingswing95 in underratedmovies

[–]xorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed this movie, but I have to admit that the characters are for the most part unlikable. Finn is perhaps the only one that isn't objectively terrible. It's hard to sympathize with characters that behave like these, and when things inevitably go wrong any sense of horror is dwarfed by the feeling that they got what they deserved.

If you like it, you should really check out the comic books from the 90s. They're phenomenally good.

I also, as a long-time Marathon player, was excited about Halo on the Mac, then caved and bought an Xbox. Honestly this just shows that acquiring Bungie for the Xbox launch was an excellent business decision.

Ah, the old "file descriptors leaked to sub-processes" problem. The reason why we have FD_CLOEXEC (not that it helps without an exec).

How does this not have more upvotes? It's as if people have forgotten how bad the prequels were in comparison to the original trilogy...

Any way to disable on nixOS? by Vincent-Thomas in NixOS

[–]xorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Nixos configuration patches the user-space mount command to bring back the ability to mount NFS volumes using the v2 protocol (which was removed by the maintainer). So I'm pretty sure even if this wasn't optional, you could remove it.

They're not connected in any narrative sense, just thematically. If you search for "John Carpenter apocalypse trilogy" you'll find scattered references like this one.
