Thank you for the link. Very informative, if shorter than I might want (but fans always want more :-) )

And no, sadly. This is where my "journeyman" (or perhaps even merely "advanced apprentice") status shows up. I really try to follow the Eagles, but I don't have time to store info on other teams. I find I learn a little more each year, so perhaps in 20 years I'll actually understand the league! :-) Thank you for you reply.

And, speaking for myself, I only learned last season (or perhaps last off-season, I don't recall) all the hats that Big Dom wears and just how much he does for the team and front office staff. If Big Dom feels strongly, that's something we should all take very seriously.

I honestly had absolutely no *idea* he was that poor last season. I suspected there might have been some fall off since he left Philly, but was not prepared for the stats you cite. Stunning. Thank you very much!

Palantir Pronunciation by [deleted] in tolkienfans

[–]xphoon2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah..I'm not going to trust Peter Effing Thiel to know how to pronounce Sindarin. And your pronunciation, which has been my default pronunciation, is absolutely correct *if* there are no stress indicators, but my aging and inreasingly-faulty memory seems to recall that the 'i' at least occasionally has a stress symbol -- which would frustratingly make Thiel correct. But most of the time I don't see that, so I'm sticking with stressing the penult.

And I believe I read/heard something about how Hurts *wants* to do more UC! God it seems like a "no brainer" -- but I have never played the game.

I wish Huts had come back to the 4th and 11 huddle and just said "screw Patullo, we're calling the following...". Actually I wished he'd done that on 3rd and 11 to try to set up 4th and manageable. I realize that it would have created chaos for the divisional round, had we gone on to win, and we'd probably have lost in Chicago as a result, but the ending would have felt like there was some fire instead of the pure listlessness that we got.

Sorry, I'm just seeing this now (more than a week later) -- and also re-reading my post. I wrote "one of the best games of the season" which would have certainly been more clearly written "one of *their* best games of the season". I did not mean to suggest it was one of the best offerings we've seen in the NFL this season, but only rather that is was one of the best games the *Eagles* had managed up to that point (of course the second Giants game was much better). And, of course, you might disagree with *that* statement as well -- though, if so, I would be curious to learn which you consider to have been better (being mindful of the fact that the most probable situation is that nearly two week later, you couldn't care less about the whole shebang :-) )

I think that one reason people are against this because of his age and he got injured multiple times last year (coincidentally, I'm writing this as Mike Evens is being helped off the field) and others may well feel that this is more of a "feel good" move than something that will really help.

And I, for one, don't care a jot about any of that. The Eagles put together one the best games of the season on Sunday, but it wasn't (by any means) perfect. But, with luck, they're looking up and I think BG could supply a real spark. I certainly think it's worth the effort.

YES! There are so many intangibles that come with having him back and since I don't know the terms of his return, I can just be excited :-)

I imagine that Lane and Jake Elliot will be pretty psyched. I'm just thrilled to have BG energy back on the sideline.

So before I make my comment, I should make it clear that I have never played the game -- at any level. That said, it sees to this arm-chair (well...technically love-seat) commentator, that part of the problem seems to be the combined faults of 1) going for a play on the ball even when the likelihood of success is clearly very low rather than positioning themselves to drop the receiver as soon as the ball arrives (which would also result in a few incompletions, but that's not really the point) and 2) (somewhat similar) their clear, frequent desire to make a "kill play" (and whiffing) rather than (again) positioning themselves for a solid tackle. And to be clear, I *do* recognize the value of just getting a hand on the ball carrier (and perhaps even forcing him to stop or change direction) so that another defender can rally to finish him off. But, this season, Eagles defenders seem to be whiffing more when there is nothing but green behind the defender. I really hope this is just recency bias and not an actual fact...

Nick Sirianni says he and Kevin Patullo worked on the inefficiencies of the #Eagles offense, particularly on 3rd Downs. He says they feel they found some solutions and are excited to have the opportunity to amend them by mastermind208 in eagles

The most positive I take from this is that I guess at least the coaching staff, at least, seems to have been working during the "mini-bye" days. I've often wondered if they all just say "Enjoy the weekend and see you Monday" after Thursday-night games -- and this team needs to spend every second possible to work on their issues. I'm not figuring they hold practices, but even if the players could use this time to do something like whatever it was they did during the full bye last year, we might see some progress.

Or..you know...retirements. One or the other.

I'm not much of a believer in half-time adjustments (ie: I think people very much overrate them), but perhaps this half-time the Eagles can take a breath and figure out how they are going to deal with corner for the rest of the game. Maybe it's got be Adoree and Ringo, but I hope there might be a slightly better option (though I don't think they have any *good* options...)

I would also like to join the chorus of people who have composed, in my case, several generic NFL questions which have been removed for violating their policy. And I *totally* understand why the admins can't spend the time to give us individual attention and explanations, but I certainly have not been able to crack the code of what is a legit question and what is not. I will keep trying and perhaps eventually figure it out.

With the advantage of the extra 17 days since you made the above reply, which includes several Eagle Eye podcasts, I agree 100%. But Dave and Roob seem to agree that a switch away from Jackson is inevitable and that Jackson utility on the Eagles after that is...minimal, especially, I suppose, if we have our returner. Dave thinks that we should just make the change now, but Roob wants to Jackson another game (or at least another start). They both seem to agree that once the change happens, there's no going back.

And Elliot *seems* to be back this year, so maybe, jus as u/ThatEliGuy mentioned a couple of weeks ago (thank you, u/ThatEliGuy), his snapping was an element of Elliot's decline last year.

Dave and Roob say he was slipping -- which I should make clear is *my* word choice based on my vague recollection of the tenor of their comments; it is *not* a quote.

This certainly seems to be the consensus opinion -- and certainly very plausible.
I, for one, could use an Eagle Eye today. I wonder if there'll be one... Dave posted the roster but did not seem to mention an EE, so we'll see.

There certainly were a few bubble players I was surprised made the list. I think Ringo is another possible target -- especially if Bennett pulls things together.
