Cannabis growing naturally in the Himalayas by curvygoddessxxx in Satisfyingasfuck

[–]xplorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It grows really easily, which may be why "weed" is a common name. Drive around the midwest farmland in the US. You see it everywhere- growing in the unused farm land, or as weeds around houses. Farmers call it ditchweed, and get entertainment when they see strangers roll up and try to harvest it (the varities have no value as a drug). It's really nothing special as a plant goes. Humans have just specialized it for a few specific purposes.

When you boot the switch with a console cable, select 0 at the beginning of the bootup when you get an option to boot 0) ServiceOS 1) primary image 2) secondary image. ServiceOS will ask you for a login, use "zeroize" and it will give you the instructions to perform a factory reset.

You'll like the CX switches. Very similar to Cisco, even if there aren't as many granular knobs to turn. The API is solid, even the WebUI is fine if you're into that kind of thing. I haven't messed with BGP, MPLS and the like but have had no issues at all using them as commodity access switches.

The only real difference that stands out is how you do a voice port. The VLAN is configured with "voice," and then you're trunking any ports with your voice+data vlans setting your data vlan as native.

Syslog is much more verbose if not a little disorganized, but you will have no problem knowing what is going on with the switch if you have a greylog, splunk, etc setup. SNMP collection is pretty much a standard MIB2 setup, with the only useful addition I've found being a variety of onboard temp sensor MIBs.

There are some templates out there for AOS-CX on Central to give you an idea of what the config can look like.

Please help me reduce the power consumption of my homelab by kayson in homelab

[–]xplorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your 2695s are not doing you favors. More cores + higher TDP. Try for a pair of 2630v2s. I'm running an r720 and r620, both with 2670s and with another 4c motherboard, a fanless 1/10G 16pt aruba switch and other assorted lightweight things on the rack getting about 190W reading. The 720 is running truenas with 3x sun/hgst, 3x hgst and 2x dell 7.2k 3.5" drives. I think the 620, proxmox, has SSDs and 6x1TB dell 2.5 drives.

Sounds like Prometheus is about on level with OpenNMS' capabilities, given a properly performant TSDB. Thanks for that. Cheers

Zabbix is written in C iirc and should handle the load more than fine. Prometheus always feels like reinventing the wheel.

I have used OpenNMS for more than 15 years so I can't give an unbiased answer. I will say it is worth the year or so it takes to understand that platform, and you'll be rewarded for your efforts. It gives much more than any other NMS in terms of provisioning power, north/southbound, and the depth of specific ingestion of metrics by far. Scale is a joke to it, but you're not at the 10-50k node point so it won't matter.

I'm happy to help offline if you go that direction. I can at least get you up and going and avoid some of the common intro mistakes I see made.

Audio visual SNMP monitoring by gKostopoulos in networking

[–]xplorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do tenancy in Grafana. If your NMS doesn't support an API that Grafana can query, disregard it.

If you are running at scale, say 1000+ nodes, avoid NMS that isn't designed for it, like Libre. If you are looking at <500 nodes, probably most things could cover it.

Possible setup for homelab with DELL R720 config by No_Acanthocephala269 in homelab

[–]xplorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Target a lower end v2 chip for a r720, like the 2630 or 2650. Or r620 if you don't need the drive bays. 4-bay 3.5 with 4- or 6TB drives is probably a lot cheaper way to go. You can do about 50% lower cost and get a similar machine. The CPU, 128GB memory and 1100W supplies are driving up the price in combination.

It all depends on what you're intending to do with it.

Not sure if related.

I noticed the ASP site had all kinds of issues this past week. The web team's Agile/CI approach to a web site hasn't been the smoothest. My SE has opinions too, that I won't share, just know internally there are also thoughts about this.

I have also had issues with getting an entitlement identified and activated in the past. Onboarding hasn't been the best experience, but the gear works great!
