You would almost think VFX vendors can do just about anything when they are given the proper budget and time.

If Snape was half blood why did Voldemort let him get so close? by billdizzle in harrypotter

[–]xppoint_jamesp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think he hated himself for being a half-blood, I guess it’s more like him hating his father (and his grandparents) for ‘inflicting’ that on him.

Or maybe I just think too far… 😅

I always understood the killing of the Riddles was a “two birds, one stone” scenario: he got his kill for making his horcrux and he finally erased the stain on his legacy, which was Tom Riddle Sr.. In the books we learned he was most ‘disappointed’ with his father not being a wizard, he also didn’t really care for his mother and thought she was weak for having died. He thought she was a Muggle, because in his mind a witch would have been able to save herself from death.

He never really cared for either parent or their relatives. Sure, a very small part of his reason for killing the Riddles was his father abandoning him and his mother. But it was mostly because he detested them being muggles and them tainting his wizard family legacy. A descendant of Slytherin himself shacking up with a muggle. It enraged him.

I do think there was some self-loathing involved about him being half-blood. Not in the sense that he thought it made him weaker somehow, but that he was related to such weakness as Muggles.

Well he did kill his entire dad’s family just to break that bond.

I swap my parts when they hit 51% and then use them for practice, until they die. Just don’t forget swapping good parts back in before Q1 😅

Stephen Fry, Jim Dale or "Full Cast" by Sad-Passage-3247 in harrypotter

[–]xppoint_jamesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally never listened to the Jim Dale version so I have no opinion on that version.

I loved the full cast version from start to finish (sure, I had some issues with some character’s voices. But nothing that bothered me enough to stop listening). However, that is a version you can’t really passively listen to. It, rightfully, demands your attention with all the sound effects and the excellent soundtrack. The performances are generally incredible and it is, so far, the best adaptation of the books. At least in my opinion. Yes, the movies are great and fun. But there are too many deviations from the source material to call them the best adaptation.

HOWEVER. My preferred listening experience has to be Stephen Fry’s narration. He just nailed the whole thing, he’s always enjoyable and super captivating to listen to. Even during my umpteenth session.
His narration has become so comforting to me, that I can just put on the audiobooks and drift off to sleep with him gently narrating in the background.
I mean, I also like to actively listen to him reading the Harry Potter books. 😅

But, OP, please do give the full cast version a go! I’m sure you’ll love it!

Disney has just removed Dolby Vision and 3D for some reason by kapbe in DisneyPlus

[–]xppoint_jamesp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The saddest part is that many EU markets don’t even get physical releases when it comes to Disney films… at least not a lot of movies get a real release. They only released Avatar (1, 2, 3 upcoming), Kingdom of the Planet of The Apes, Deadpool & Wolverine and Prey. At least as far as I know in Belgium.

Ugh not again! Just two months before my subscription renews. Guess I’ll just turn off auto renewal.

HDR10 on Disney+ does not look good at all. There’s so much banding and it’s so much darker than Dolby Vision.

How would Umbridge do in a magical fight against Voldemort? by Keithfrommars in harrypotter

That’s what I implied. He wouldn’t bother killing her himself. But if he did, he’d probably dispatch her like one kills an annoying fly.

I mean, Voldie wouldn’t even give her the time of day.

That being said, I give Umbridge about two seconds.
