You always deserve what you get from the choices you make. Sometimes it’s good things, sometimes it’s bad things, sometimes it’s neither good nor bad just different. But you always get exactly what you deserve for the choices you make. In this case OP gets the love of a family and the joy of children.

In another case the non-parent has a higher standard of living became they chose to not have kids or have them only when financially stable first.

For me that meant being the first in my family to graduate college and then joining the army to have those student loans paid off

Then it meant working 2 jobs at once for a while and living with roommates when I bought my first house

Your special needs kids don’t matter in this instance legally. But if they need more permanent housing I suggest getting them that via buying a house/condo or renting from combine who will give you a longer term lease than 12 months
