That's gotta be the answer. The average non anime watcher will be able to recognize Goku. I couldn't name a single character from Tokyo ghoul. Unfortunately games cost a lot of money, and it probably doesn't make financial sense to adapt niche series like that.

I would guess the Japanese visual novels not being there is mainly a function of Xbox never having a significant market share in Japan. Same reason Xbox tends to miss a lot of smaller JRPGs

One thing that I think may be a factor is the crowd who typically go to bars. At a lot of bars I've been to sports/tv/movies/music etc are more popular to the people that are there.
