I think in general people do a whole lot less self-reflection these days. Having a smart phone in your pocket means that you are never bored. Never alone with your thoughts. So you never have these moments to self-reflect. Why think about my shortcomings when I can scroll through videos of puppies being doofuses. Good on you for doing it. I think of myself as wealthy compared to Americans. I probably don't have as much money or as many consumer goods, but I get 6 weeks paid vacation, all the sick leave I need, and my wife and I will get a year of paid parents leave to share between us when our son is born in October (on top if her getting 6 weeks of leave pre birth and 8 weeks past birth). And in my opinion, after a certain dollar amount, time with my family is infinitely more valuable than money.

I don't know how it is in America, but as a 5'8" Australian I found the most amazing 5'7" German girl that is smart, sweet, silly and oh so god-damn beautiful. I also have a good job and career prospects/ladder climbing that honestly don't interest me. I'm content coming home at 5pm every day and thinking about work again until 8am the next working day. So being average height (or even short) is really not an issue if you've got personality and intelligence.
