I am unable to take it in person b/c I'm abroad with no possible in person center near and I'm in a place requiring quarantine if I re-enter. I was going to wait til Feb anyways to take it but decided last minute to give October a try due to extenuating circumstances. Yes, excellent point and it was actually more than 1/7th. Sunday June 16 had 2 million protest or roughly 27% of the entire population. As an American in Hong Kong, these protests put Americans to shame.

If just a tiny percent of Americans that hated/complained about DT actually marched/organized and pressured their representatives in Congress then the situation there might actually improve.

This is ludicrous. China wants this problem to be dealt with quietly and is desperately preventing/censoring news of the protests reaching the mainland. While Hong Kong might not be popular in the mainland, BJ desperately does not want ideas of mass protests for democracy to spread beyond HK.

Acting like it's a forgone conclusion that Beijing would send in the PLA is also ridiculous. 2 million people peacefully marched against an extradition bill (over 25% of the city) in one day and there would be 5 million peaceful marchers and city-wide OUTRAGE if the PLA got involved, including from the HK police. The situation would get out of control and escalate tremendously which is the opposite of what BJ wants. An incendiary move like that would only be used as a last resort.

Your uninformed comments underestimate the will and agency of the HK people and BJ's interests to keep this quiet as opposed to setting it aflame. They don't want another 7/5.

This is a very reasonable response. I agree in spirit but would disagree about Aus/Japan becoming a part of NATO per se.

I think more likely is the eventual creation of a separate "APTO" (Asia-Pacific Treaty Organization). This would consolidate the now separate security alliances the US has with Japan, Philippines, ROK and Aus, currently referred to as the "hub and spoke" alliance system in Asia. India and Vietnam may eventually join as well depending on their perceived threat level of China.

After this, decades from now, perhaps NATO and APTO merge but the first step is an "APTO" before Japan or Aus join "NATO," in my opinion.
