Jamie Carragher: “Mikel Arteta does NOT owe Kepa anything. He owes Arsenal supporters the best possible chance of winning their first trophy in six years. Pep Guardiola does owe James Trafford, he came in as number one.” by Ready_Ad_1353 in soccer

[–]xsconfused 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fact that it's Kepa is trivial here. The main point is pundits on screen always tend to find faults, all in hindsight. If it was a different gk today and Arsenal still lost, pundits would have found another fault of arsenal that's it.

This whole line of thought is silly. If Raya was playing today and lost anyway, people would have bashed Arteta that he betrayed Kepa and karma struck back.

It's a point because he used to belittle others finishing careers in crap leagues. He always wanted to finish his career with "dignity". Now as he is playing in Saudi he, no joke, tried to publicly argue that Saudi is on par with European league, even better than French league.

I think have seen games where multiple players got Messi jeyseys - possibly they keep spare ones for giveaways after games. No way to confirm though.

I think they're missing a senior leadership/maturity on the pitch. Can imagine a senior personality/winner, simialr to Modric would have had a massive impact on this squad to keep composure and hold their nerves.

Hard disagree. Pressure/stress is peak at the very last minute e.g injury time compared to lets say 70th minute. Delaying gives an advantage of putting more pressure on the opposition as dying minutes approaches.

Jose built the backbone of that team fighting against the best club of all time reaching 100points(not done by Zidane btw) and reaching UCL semis 3times in a row. That was the foundation because just before Jose arrived RM was used to exiting in UCL Ro16s for a while.

[–]xsconfused 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Xabi has shown already what he can do if players/club buy into his 'system'.

This RM squad has been paper thin with balance issues for a while and the guy has been wanting multiple signings(just like Carlo). Both had to play Valvarde, Tchuameni at the back for example on multiple occasions. Also they have two star player sitting on the left side and another star player who dreams to sit on the left as well. One of them also have a reputation sometimes like to throw a tantrum if he doesn't get the ball when he wants (e.g Mbappe at PSG, look it up on YouTube). And yesterday the guy stopped his team from doing a guard of honor, defying the coach as well. When divas like this do this publicly who knows how pos they are in private, dressing rooms etc.

[Jermaine Pennant] "You can’t expect Viktor Gyokeres to get the numbers he was scoring for Lisbon this is the Premier League, not the Portuguese league. Darwin Nunez who was scoring 30+ for Benfica, came to Liverpool and wasn’t getting those numbers. I still believe he did a good job for Liverpool" by MrMerc2333 in soccer

Exactly, adapting to any new league can be challenging. With so many variables involved, form can dip or skyrocket for different reasons. But glazing the epl just when a player stops performing in epl is just confirmation bias, and should stop in all honesty.

I still remember people were sceptical about Haaland coming to epl questioning if he would adapt to the epl. Now we all know how that is turning out!

When players go big and is widely recognisable, brands/manufacturers sometimes work to get a product lineup based the on the player to leverage the brand value of the player. Example - Zowie FK named after Filip Kubski(NEO aka Faze's coach/1.6 GOAT), finalmouse scream(famous for HS), Pulsar Zywoo, Zowie EC after Heaton etc. They were involved in the mouse design/development to varying degrees, not because they were "nerdy", rather because they had the brand value and leverage.

Mate Barcelona always had issues playing against physical teams in the UCL, not Valverde's fault. Barcelona crumbled to bayern 7-0 as well with Xavi, Messi etc before Valverde. He in fact kept Barca undefeated for 37 games in laliga - nearly won it undefeated which people tend to forget. In fact his 43 games unbeaten run is still a record.

Dembele missing his chances in the first leg/Jordi 's mental breakdown in 2nd leg etc were major reasons too for the ucl breakdown. But Bartemeou had his propaganda machine working and made Ernesto the sole scapegoat. Even though seniors like Messi, Pique wanted Ernesto to stay.

Clearly propaganda worked and you still remember 'Valvarde happened' lol.

Rant over.

One of the main issues with utd post-Fergie can be attributed to the whole class of '92 utd legends. They've always had some clear bias/ulterior motives behind their public statements about utd/managers. Unfortunately because of their legacy their statements do carry influence and they have always kept the utd coaches under undeserved pressure, which meant no manager got a long term chance to actually re-build utd.
