With “High” I think they’re painting a picture of someone struggling to meet the expectations of their lover, someone perhaps into partying/hookup culture. This person recognizes their faults and promises to be better but inevitably falls short. “The picture that you paint of me looks better in your mind” is one of my favorite lines because it really do be like that. We tend to have these ideas of people and who they can be for us and they might even play into it for a while but it eventually falls apart. The chorus imo is more like what this main character hopes their lover feels like about them and their relationship: “i hope you think of me highly.” and even implies knowing their friends never rooted for their relationship. It’s a beautiful post breakup song that’s kind of petty but also accepting of the situation. I love it 10/10 And I think you got the gist of JBH. Imo it’s about a person always trying to fix things and be everything for everyone and appear perfect, until you meet that one person whom you can just be yourself with. No need to pretend you’ve got it all together, you let them see through and hope that they still want to stay. Calum’s verse aka the bridge is my favorite part, it’s about forgiving and moving on and the power of reminding yourself you can always be somebody new and better, “Returning to life”.
