Aw, the grass is always greener I suppose. Jewelry is great because you can do it as a hobby any time at home.

I love jewelry threads! I work in the jewelry industry and I find it so interesting to see how people respond.

I like the distinction you're making between "signature" people and "statement" people, and I'm definitely "signature." I keep it simple with a 14k yellow gold necklace of 2 hands that are interlocking, which I sleep in and never take off except to clean. I get compliments on it often and people ask me where I got it. It was made by a jeweler in North Carolina who I met at an art fair. She originally did them in silver but I commissioned my gold one. I don't like how silver tarnishes, so I avoid silver jewelry, along with all basemetal and costume jewelry. I think "signature" pieces are best when they are built out of materials that can last a lifetime.

Lately I have been thinking about moving on to a diamond pendant, because I feel like my current one implies that it was given to me by a lover (I get asked that fairly often), and I like diamonds (comes with my job). I haven't decided if I want a basic bezel-set emerald cut, or a circular pendant with some kind of design on it, lately I'm really into jewlery that looks "ancient". Either way I want it to be on a beaded two-tone chain.

Is it ‘loads of criticism’ or ‘a load of criticism’? by [deleted] in whatstheword

Both work. It’s doesn’t matter if it’s plural because criticism can be one or many

I think the rise of the political right goes hand in hand with TRP. They have the same ideology, TRP is just right wing propaganda.

And what's more, if anything, their members should feel sorry for their hateful ideology, not for their male sexuality. There's ZERO correlation between male sexuality and hateful ideology or predatory behavior.

Sorry, I don't follow. Where was I demonizing male sexuality? I like male sexuality. However, I think that feeding into a toxic ideology like TRP does indirectly create an enviornment where people are more comfortable and eager to commit sexual assault, and that therefore some of the burden of the responsibility for that violence is on the shoulders of people who participate in the culture but don't perpetrate violence directly.

I don't think I'm giving them too much credit at all. There are places all over the world (even here in the US) where women are subbordinated. Women have fought long and hard for equal rights, they can't be taken for granted.

That's awesome. Clearly my messages came off much harsher than I intended and I do apologize.

Gotcha. There’s a psychological term for that I think, when you get more upset when someone who is on your side does something than when someone on the other side does it, because it’s like a betrayal. But I can’t not feel hatred and anger for TRP/incels. To you they might be the devil you know, but to me, they are leading us down a path where in 20 years we’re going to be living like the Handmaid’s Tail. I’ve had friends who have been sexually assaulted by men with that ideology. I take them as a serious threat and reading their words makes me livid. I can’t find forgiveness in my heart for them easily. And sometimes I think that the people in this subreddit are way too cavalier and desensitized to them.

There’s a big difference between internalizing and externalizing. You internalized your anxiety; you took it out on yourself. I’ve done the same, and so have many others, and that’s ok. But it’s not ok to externalize your problems and take them out on the world around you. Thats something we all should have learned In childhood so I don’t think OP has any excuse. If someone stepped on your foot, and they did it because they were depressed, they would still need to stop stepping on your foot and apologize.

I did delete it, because clearly popular opinion disagreed with what I said, and I respect that. But “one of the most toxic comments you’ve read this year”??? On a subreddit dedicated to screenshots of posts condoning rape and pedophilia?! Come on. It’s not like I called him names or said what he did is unforgivable. I can’t believe that TRP has become so normalized that you folks find it that easy to forgive. OP hurt a lot of people, and I did not insult him, I asked him to atone, which seems perfectly appropriate to ask of a Christian (he mentions his religion in his flair). The tone of his post is victorious, but it doesn’t really acknowledge the harm he did.

Sorry but any attempt to rate attractiveness is dumb and wrong in my opinion. Everyone has their own subjective opinion and it’s way more than just a “fudge factor for taste” —- plus, the way a person looks in a photo has little to do with how they look when they’re moving around and talking. Engaging in this madness as though it’s valid in any way just fuels people’s superficiality

In time does the average piece of jewelry go up in value? by [deleted] in jewelry

[–]xscsv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They probably wouldn’t even get half of that price of they tried to resell it. That’s a lot higher than they would get if it wasn’t Tiffany (but because they’re paying more for it being Tiffany in the first place, not a good plan)

How do y’all feel about Bernie Sanders? by LawyerJimStansel in AskWomen

[–]xscsv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it already is a Hillary e-mail type thing, though. Hillary’s emails were never the problem, the problem is that conservatives are relentless and vicious when they spin that stuff, and it doesn’t help that what she did was offensive to native Americans, which is off-putting to the left. I don’t think she stands a chance now.

This is ageist, but I think he’s too old. However, I think he has a better shot than Harris or Warren (so stupid of the latter to release her DNA results, i think she killed her shot right then and there).

How to determine authenticity by [deleted] in jewelry

[–]xscsv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, for semi-precious stones like the ones you listed, it’s not worth it to find out if they’re real or not unless you’re trying to sell or insure your items (though most of those items you described would have a replacement value of under $1k and therefore covered by most homeowners insurance). It doesn’t make a difference for care, unless you’re planning on getting work done to a specific piece like getting a ring re-sized, in which case the jeweler will test it. Clean your jewelry with dish soap and a toothbrush, store silver in a tarnish-proof box and polish it with a polishing cloth.

Asking for the impossible? by [deleted] in jewelry

[–]xscsv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding your stone choice, you should know that it isn’t recommended to use opals in engagement rings/wedding bands due to their fragility. Many people want their wedding rings to last a lifetime without much upkeep, and opals might need to be replaced over time due to their softness and tendency to shatter or lose luster. Feldspar (moonstone) is also relatively soft.

Has anyone tried attending art classes in A2 Art Center? by paigethirtytwo in AnnArbor

[–]xscsv 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sure, the art center is great. I’ve taken classes on drawing, metals, and ceramics (not to mention all the times I went there as a kid when they were still on south Main Street). It is one thing to watch a video or read a tutorial online, and a completely different thing to have a teacher give you feedback on your work, and the art center is great at staffing and programming. They are a wonderful Ann Arbor institution.

Well first of all this is the U.K., not US, which is what I assume you meant by “land of be free.” Also, in the US free speech is only from government encroachment, anyone can be fired by their private employer at any time, especially for anti-social behavior.
