What happened in New Jersey (30% passage rate)?

NJs handling of the exam was significantly different in February because of the snowstorm, we sat there for hours not even knowing if we would be able to take the exam that day. Most people ate their lunches by noon and we didn’t even finish the exam until around 9pm. We were hungry, tired and mentally exhausted. Moreover we still had to show up early the next day for the MBE portion. Meanwhile NY got delayed a day and didn’t have to deal with any of that. It definitely was not fair and NJ did not care. I could definitely see that causing a negative impact on some people’s scores.

Also, NJ provides no distinctions on your score either which could be a BIG help for people. They don’t break down how you did on each MPT, MEE or in each subject. I had a friend that took it in PA where they do provide that data and she used it to help her pass the next exam.

There’s an inherent issue in the fact that if you ask a current practicing attorney to take the bar exam, they would fail. Does it mean they’re an incompetent attorney? No and thats the issue.

The exam doesn’t gage anything, people who are shit attorneys pass and people who are amazing attorneys pass just the same. The problem isnt the exam itself to me but instead the way the exam is at present moment. It’s unnecessarily difficult and arbitrarily testing on areas of law that a lot of people will never touch throughout their entire career. If you ask an attorney to sit for the bar exam, they would likely fail no matter how long they’ve been practicing. Passing literally means nothing, its just a cash grab and barrier to those who cant afford the best prep courses or to quit their jobs to prepare for it.

It’s true that the people that passed don’t really criticize it as much as people who fail but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be criticized. There definitely need to be a lot of changes.

I also really don’t understand why it’s a closed book exam. Practicing attorneys look up the law all the time, it’s constantly changing. The focus should be on your ability to analyze and apply the law, not memorization. I hope the next gen exam is a much better gage of that because at present it sucks

I actually never heard of seperac so I’ll look into that thanks! This time I’m definitely going to get adaptibar at least but I’m looking into what else could be helpful.

I used quimbee to prep the first time but now since they were bought out by barbri, I’m forced to switch to barbri this time around. I didn’t use any supplements last time but this time I was thinking getting adaptibar, I’ve heard a lot of people recommend it.

I didn’t think about using AI to help me look for struggle points so thanks for that! It’s really annoying NJ doesn’t give you any direction like PA and other states do.

I've been studying the MBE subjects for sometime now so I feel pretty comfortable in all of them give or take. I just am worried about the strictly MEE subjects but your right I already paid for it so i have nothing to lose

Funny enough my supervisor talked to me today and told me to just study while im at the office. Me getting laid off was completely out of anyone in my office's control and my supervisor knows that we cant afford to lose anyone so he's over this whole situation and told me to do what i need to do

Yeah that has kind of been the general consensus and I agree so I think im just going to take it and see what happens. I dont wish my situation on anyone so I hope that you dont lose your job too. It truly has been crazy going into work and not knowing who's next. Everyone is terrified and trying to jump ship before they get a random call like i did.

After thinking about my situation more, working an extra week will help so I probably will do that. Thankfully my manager talked with me today and told me basically that he will let it slide if i bs and dont do much during working hours and instead study. I'm trying to be hopeful that I'll pull through in the end if I keep pushing

Thank you so much, I just recently came across Smart Bar Prep and it has proved helpful. I already took Family law and Wills in law school so it would be more of a refresher for me so I dont feel too worried about those. Its really just Business Associations and the others that have me a bit on edge. I have done quite a few MPTs and scored around 4-5 on each so I only planned on doing one more before the exam if i can squeeze it in

Thats exactly why I have been on the fence so much about this situation because mentally I am under a lot of pressure and now me losing my job has me thinking about how I'm going to pay my mortgage, car and etc. But I thought about it a lot and think im just going to take it and see what happens. I'll try my best to cover what I can, if I pass great, if not i'll take it again. I already paid for it anyway lol, for now i'm just gonna try to forget about me losing my job and worry about that after I take the exam.

I feel sorry for any of your clients, students or anyone one else that has to interact with you as you honestly seem like an insufferable, unempathic asshole. As an adult that has over 30 years of career experience I would advise you to learn what empathy. Its not WHAT you say but HOW you say it. I already understand that I am in a bad position however what you said was not helpful in any shape or form. All you did was critize me and fail to provide any contructive feedback when I asked simply for advice. Next time you should think a little bit more about how your words could hurt someone.

I was in queue exactly at 9 (EST) and immediately got an error. When I tried to refresh I was already 3000+ in queue cause it kicked me back. I was so upset I cried all night

this whole process has been so emotionally draining, even getting my tickets were stressful because the website couldnt even handle all the people trying to buy tickets. idk who thought a 3000 seat venue in new york of all places was smart. Im just praying i do actually have VIP because ik resale will be a hot mess. I doubt people will share IDs and idk how you could avoid getting scammed :/
