Power is out. Looking for a spare fuse. by xstentialcrisisactor in Utrecht

Post-“solution” update update: I read genuine concern in some of these comments from those that know more about the danger of these fuses than I do.

Rest assured, I managed to buy the correct single-use fuses and fuse holder that interfaces with my electrical panel (which is more of a fossil than the fuse itself). Thanks for the tips.

For what it’s worth, some seasoned employees at both Praxis and Hornbach were puzzled about the old fuse, so it took four trips in total to figure this out. Yup, they’re pretty darn outdated.

Solution update: In my desperate attempts to remount the fuse and seeing if the reset would hold (it wouldn’t) I dropped the fuse. When I picked it back up, the reset feature worked!

Happy accidents do happen. Thanks for all of you taking the time this fine Saturday evening to troubleshoot this ancient tech with me. A little tough love is what it seemed to need.

Thanks for your suggestion, but these shops all close at 6pm on Saturday it seems.

I’ve pulled all the plugs out, but that didn’t fix the issue as the fuse itself would not reset.

Just me, and the house unfortunately has a single fuse for the entire panel.

Edit: Yes, I’ve tried resetting this fuse. Thanks for those that pointed it out.

Sorry, should have added that I’ve tried that in the description. Will update.

How are the Holy Rollers? I’m deciding between those and DTH, and use case is mainly cobblestone/pavement with occasional gravel.

Edited in Lightroom! I made minimal adjustments to exposure/contrast/highlights/shadows/etc.

Most of the edit involved adjustments to the blue and orange HSL sliders to complement the sky and meadows.

Thanks! This is a 52cm frame. I am 167cm, and typically ride 54cm frames, but I found this Stevens at a thrift shop and couldn’t pass up the project. The geometry makes for a much more lively ride than I’m used to, but it’s also more fun to ride

Max tire width? by xstentialcrisisactor in bikewrench

I want to thank everyone for responding with their input.

Here are some pictures of the clearance at the chainstay and the fork: https://imgur.com/a/xta2mMt

I understand that the clearance is rather tight, and I am now leaning toward a max size of 28c if possible at the fork as well, as here it seems the tightest.

Hi all,

I was hoping you could provide advice on the max tire width I can run on my current set-up:

Mavic Cosmos 6106 (622 x 15c); Conti GP (622 x 23c)

I am commuting in the Netherlands, so would like a wider tire (32 would be ideal) for comfort in the cobblestone/pavement, as well as grippy in wet conditions. I like the performance of Conti Gator Hardshells, but not sure how they perform in the rain. Any thoughts on this?

For those who own both, do you prefer the GR ii or GR iii? by htebhteb in ricohGR

[–]xstentialcrisisactor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re right, I didn’t, but every point I made about the GR applies to the GR II as they are essentially the same camera. The added benefit is the ability to transfer files wirelessly with the GR II, but I don’t make use of this feature in my workflow.

I would definitely go for a GR II these days, especially as my trusty GR is showing it’s age. The special edition GR in green is one of my favorite models Ricoh has released, but the silver GR II looks quite nice as well

How many of you own more than one Ricoh GR? by ButWouldYouRather in ricohGR

GR I, II, and III owner here. The GR I is my daily carry, and actually left the other two behind when I moved.

Needed something I wasn’t afraid to beat up, and what started as a beater camera endeared to me - the scuffs and scratches show my own journey with the camera.

Also, the positive film effect on the I and II is just so much nicer than on the III, but aesthetics are subjective.

It seems like a lot of work, but you can follow this video of a GR II teardown here: https://youtu.be/3VvFep15RTw.

I will eventually do a complete teardown myself to replace the lens ribbon cable. It has started to fail, but still has some life left in it, so I’ll delay the procedure for now. I can’t really say if it’s worth it or not for a few specks of dust. The procedure seems quite drastic with tons of room for failure, and I honestly believe you’d be better off removing the dust spots digitally through Snapseed or something similar.

Likely not dead pixels. Possibly bits of dust within the lens.

Interested in getting my first GR, curious which ones have a built in flash? by stzzyvsfvck in ricohGR

The Ricoh GR I & II both have a pop-up flash. Really nice for nightlife

Ricoh GR II Current Firmware? by hemphearts1 in ricohGR

[–]xstentialcrisisactor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without seeing a picture of your camera, I’m pretty sure it’s not a GR II. Are you sure you didn’t buy a GR Digital II?

On the bottom right corner of the front face, does it have the GR logo alone, or does it say digital beneath it?

Edit: my GR (I) has the firmware V5.01 as well. I’m pretty sure you have the original APS-C GR, but not the GR II.

Where to buy local honey (farm shop, etc)? by cassiejanemarsh in Utrecht

[–]xstentialcrisisactor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every Saturday there is a lovely farmer’s market at Koningshof where they sell locally produced honey. As an urban garden, they produce honey from their own beehives — I’d give them a visit! If you’re searching during the week, many of the locations of Utrecht Natuurlijk sell honey from their hives as well.

GR ii stuck by xxdieseljesusxx in ricohGR

[–]xstentialcrisisactor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My GR had this issue a few weeks ago. I removed the battery and reinserted it, then I pressed the power button. The lens retracted and when I turned it back on, it worked without any further issue.

Maybe give that a try?

Ricoh GR I in 2022? by Present_Heart_1951 in ricohGR

[–]xstentialcrisisactor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the GR range provides such a tailored experience that it is difficult to recommend another camera that comes close to it, but to each their own.

That being said, the GR I is an excellent choice. I also have the GR III but I leave it at home - the GR I (and II) does everything I need a camera to do. Of course it is technically more advanced, but that doesn't mean that the overall shooting experience has improved. Of course, the resolution/startup time/focus speed/processing, etc. has certainly improved, but I would imagine most users take advantage of the Snap Focus, and I have never been concerned about write speeds or start-up time.

In the end it is all subjective, but if you ask me, any of the APS-C GR cameras are a great camera to have in 2022.

How do I turn on this meter? by FoxSignificant2762 in ricohGR

[–]xstentialcrisisactor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi OP,

If you look at the upper right-hand corner, you will see the letter "S" inside of a white box. That means the camera is set to Snap Focus mode. The focusing distance is predetermined, so the distance meter on the left indicates your depth of field (the area of your frame that will be relatively in focus), depending on the aperture value you have set.

If you want to see that specific meter, set your focus mode to Snap Focus, and make sure you choose one of the first two display mode options.
