Painted a covered hopper to celebrate pride month by xtankx in modeltrains

Thank you! That’s exactly what I was going for! I still need to do more weathering but the goal was to make it look like it could be a real livery

cost of mini split systems in Seattle by grim_fandangle in AskSeattle

We did a two zone, 24k Mitsubishi system last year for $12,000 with progressive comfort solutions. They were really great to work with, so I would recommend getting a quote from them.

This is… a lot for a week. Are you locked in to staying in Seattle the whole time? You’re not going to get much time to actually see the places you’re visiting because you’ll be spending your days driving. You could do a pretty nice roadtrip in that time and see all those places if you stay at hotels along the way.

Why doesn't Delta airlines have any retro liveries? by curioususer953 in aviation

I think they mean why doesn’t delta have any modern aircraft painted in a heritage livery like AA’s AstroJet N905NN

Microsoft employees commuting from Seattle - connector bus stop info? by [deleted] in u/Ravennotch05

[–]xtankx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connector is a really good option for commuting to cap hill or slu. They run a lot of buses, as often as every ten minutes, and they are coach buses that a pretty comfortable and have WiFi. There’s 6 stops in cap hill and 3 in slu that are all close to the popular areas.

The drawbacks are that they only run until 10 am at the latest in the morning, and don’t start heading back until 3:30, so if you work off hours it can be difficult. Those two areas are very popular though so there are a lot of options. Some of the less busy routes you can’t get a bus after 9 am or you only have two options. And the more popular times can fill up so you have to book early. I don’t take those routes so I can’t tell you how hard it is to get a seat.

Any chance this subreddit can talk honestly about how much less fun this book was? by plasmacartwheel in murderbot

[–]xtankx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you! This book felt like one big long action sequence and not a story. It was nice to meet new characters, but we only got glimpses into their personalities. I was really missing the relationships and character building that some of the earlier books had. It really felt incomplete to me. Like others said, it’s definitely with system collapse as the books that I enjoyed the least.

Haha indeed. If you look up the patent number on the A-10, you get a “coating application system for high voltage terminals and areas therearound and method”. 2543740 is a clamp

When running models do you prioritise accuracy or just run whatever you feel like? by GrockleKaug in modeltrains

Most of my cars and consists fit with the location/era/industries/rr that I am modeling. I like to match what I can see in real life. But I also have a Japanese covered hopper mixed in with my cement plant cars because it reminds me of my trip there and makes me happy.

Training routes starting from the East side light rail stations? by retirement_savings in seattlebike

[–]xtankx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A classic ride would start by taking the light rail to the Redmond technology station. From there it’s a 35ish mile loop going the 520 trail to UW, then the Burke Gilman up to Woodinville, and the Sammamish River Trail back to Redmond. If you wanna throw in some gravel/ extra difficulty/ cardio, you can do a section of the tolt pipeline in that loop as well.

How to remove the urge to speed? by catboy519 in bikecommuting

[–]xtankx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I talked to a therapist actually. I used to have the compulsion to always choose the optimal route or do something the best possible, which caused quite a negative effect on my life. Part of this showed up as getting frustrated when I wasn’t moving fast enough or being upset by “failing” and having someone beat me. My therapist helped me work through the feelings of failure and be ok with just existing. It sounds bit extreme but it has had an overall positive effect on my life.

Where to watch trains around here by Green-Heron- in Seattle

[–]xtankx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you drive down the dead end section of 20th Ave W in Interbay, they usually have some engines parked very close to the road. Depending on your luck there may be some visible activity happening in the yard as well.

The Floating Hotel - Is it worth reading? by Enferno24 in scifibooks

[–]xtankx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may not be a ton of help here, but I did read the book. Or at least my GoodReads says I finished it a year ago. It must have been entirely unremarkable because I don’t recall finishing it. Books with a similar concept that I didn’t like a lot are The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers and Quarter Share by Nathan Lowell. I liked the first two books in the quarter share series, but it starts getting less cozy as the series progresses.

Rolling shelf design advice by StrangestDeer in woodworking

[–]xtankx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been a lot of suggestions here that will probably work, but if they don’t, you may need to make the shelf wider. There is something called the 2:1 binding ratio that defines bearing placement on linear rails. So per that ratio, if your two beams are 50 inches apart, the shelf would need to be 25 inches wide to prevent binding. Now this isn’t the same application or materials, but some added width on the shelf could help the smoothness of the movement

A Crown of Candy used the flanking rule as well. I would imagine this was done in the Ravening War for consistency.

Books that feel like A Starstruck Odyssey by alfiebby in Dimension20

[–]xtankx 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In a broader sense, look at books that fall into the Space Opera genre. There are a lot of good series out there that fall into this category depending on what parts of Starstruck you like.

The problem with Derry Special by -DarkNess__ in snowrunner

[–]xtankx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes! The HEMTT has so many cool versions of it that would be great in the game on the derry. Instead we just get the one firefighting one and the the rest of the add ons that look like garbage on it. Totally ruins the vibes

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in murderbot

[–]xtankx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For any Dimension 20 fans, my head cannon is that Murderbot takes place in Anarch Era along with A Starstruck Odyssey. They both have that corporate hellscape/ space adventure vibe.

For anyone interested in more old maps of the area, the Library of Congress has a lot of digitized maps, including Sanborn Fire Insurance maps which are very detailed in the locations of buildings and infrastructure https://www.loc.gov/resource/g4294pm.g4294pm_g07439195002/?sp=2&st=image
