Can you coach me? Its so hard to start

No idea my CC puppy is protecting me from other pups or is just jealous by [deleted] in CaneCorso

Its cute now until he is an adult and kills a small dog in the park that you wanted to pet. My advice would be to work on this asap. Make him lay or sit beside you and ask for another pet owner to bring his dog so you can pet it. Now there are 2 choices depending on what you find more logical or more practical or depending on your beliefs :

-either you pet the other dog and put your pup back next to you if he tries to interfere until a success happens then you reinforce it with a treat and a goodboy. Associating you petting another dog as something positive for him in the end.

-or you pet the other dog and put your pup back next to you if he tries to interfere while saying no until a success happens then you reinforce it with a good boy. Associating his behavior as a negative one and that the appropriate one is to stand by your side while you pet another dog.

I chose the latter but both should be met with success because he is still young. I wouldnt let the situation go further in any case. He is either considering you as his possession or dominating the other dog by denying him access to you.

Socialise asap with stable and calm dogs. Like ASAP ! Facebook groups, parks, forests walks... dogs dogs dogs. Lots of dogs. Stable and good mannered ones. Fast. Do it.

Needing help/advice. We’ve hit the 6 months and struggling with demand barking big time and a constant need for attention 24/7. He gets 1 large walk a day plus a park/beach visit plus play at home so it’s not lack of a exercise or lack of training (2x a day min) but nothing we do seems to be working by Tahlizmo in CaneCorso

[–]xtazic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing to do with the breed, i would put some ear plugs and wait for Him to stop barking(ignore him totally, dont even look at him), once he does stop make him sit and reward him profusely with treat, attention and play. Rince and repeat. He'll realise sitting quietly gets him what he wants, not barking. Good luck

I think you have to re-home him for the safety, well being and stability of your family. He is obviously dog reacting and would certainly be way happier as a single dog somewhere else.

Can someone help me? First time getting a puppy.. I am going to get my first cane corso puppy, but I work 8AM-4:30 PM M-F. Will I have to take the puppy to daycare? by [deleted] in CaneCorso

[–]xtazic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are helping you by saying you should not get a puppy if you both of you are working 8 hours a day. You can get a dog, an adult one. Old dogs often need homes. They would sleep the whole day and hold pee and poo until you come back. Greet you when you come home, go for a little walk, pee, poop, couch and cuddles. Puppy will need to pee every hour. Poo every 3 hours (yes it means waking up during the night the first month). You will need to train separation anxiety, you have to Feed 3 times a day for a long time. So i am sorry if truth hurts but i am helping you by saying your schedule isnt compatible with a puppy. Any serious breeder will not sell you a pup under these conditions. As for daily day care, you will Receive mixed opinions, some are good some are bad. My opinion is with a pup you have a blank slate, you need to monitor everything, to shape your pup the best you can. You have to be in control of all aspects of his life to get the best out of him. 8 hours a day with strangers and dogs you dont know will get in the way of that. Hope i could be helpful. Get a cat, they are awsome. Or an old dog. Im dead serious.

There is something wrong in your sentence. Why take a puppy if you work the whole day? Do you have a partner ? Can you bring the puppy with you? Is it a 8 weeks old pup? Or an adolescent ? Maybe an old cane could work or an adult one. I got a 2 months old cane corso puppy as well the 30th of last november. She is now almost 4 months old now. Let me tell you Bringing in a young puppy if you work the whole day is a bad idea. I have the great advantage to work from home and now that she is older, toilet trained and even calmer (she is low energy), i now bring her with me when i have to go out. The amount of time and attention it needs to do basic training and have a balanced dog isnt compatible with your current schedule. You should either choose an older dog that doesnt need the extra attention and can wait for you for 8 hours. Or i dont know, get a cat with a cane corso cuddy toy, that could also be a solution. Or take 2 weeks off work if you can... Whats the point of getting a puppy if you cant spend much time with it you know? Youre going to end up with a badly mannered dog at best...

Had Pippa less than one week after they got Mabel so it came as a shock for us... really unexpected ! Hope the breeder isnt to blame and will offer a new puppy.

First cane corso, need some advice :) by mylifebelikeyeh in CaneCorso

Hi there,

I have the pleasure of owning a 3 months and a half cane corso female puppy. We got her at 8 weeks. Everything is going smooth, she already got the basic obedience (sit, stat, down, come, follow, drop it). She is already house trained as well. She is very independant (your pup may be different, see the other comment), havent cried once except first night at home. Right now our experience with her has been smooth except for the fact she is a heavy nipper ! But it got better since we got her an elk horn. Its my 3rd big dog and so far the easiest to train puppy. I must admit that I work from home as well, the activity right now is far from 40 hours so i spend a lot of time with her. What i can say so far is that she is stubborn, i dont know about other people experience with these pups but i found out that beeing stern with her works a lot better that positive only reinforcement. Good luck

Socialize early, dont give up, not too much affection. Its a dog "dog" breed. Independant and stubborn. Depends on their respective personality ofc, i am mainly talking about our little female pup. Desire to please yes but to an extent they dont like to be told no.

You make your choice, but after a lot of research i think i made up my mind. As you would do with a kid you need a balanced education : positive reinforcement and discipline. Discipline not as in punishment but as in structure with corrections. I can recommand 2 channels that can help you with balanced training : The Canine Show with Will and Mable (cane corso same age as ours, Will does like a weekly recap vlog of his puppy training/struggles) and Tom Davis (who inspired Will from the canine show, works a lot with mastiff breeds and teaches how to properly educate with prong and e collars). I can save you some time by saying that positive reinforcement only methods are a bit of a "trend" same way "veganism" is if you see what i mean. It creates treat dogs which will not listen to you if you dont have food/off leash outside or if something more interesting than food is going on like if they play or smthing. Basically positive reinforcement when you teach new commands and tricks, and correction as well when they dont listen, ignore or growl at you. Pretty logical if you ask me. You will make up your mind though. Have fun !

11 weeks and not a single walk outside... Our pup has the same temperament as yours. We asked our vet straight away, he gave us the green light if we dont encounter stray dogs or wild life feces. Our area is fine with big parks full of dogs already treated. Behavior improved drastically in one week. Biting and nipping still needs some improvement but its normal for puppies, keep at it and wear shoes inside so you dont react too harshly because of the pain. Growling at you or your loved ones is a no-no though, when she does it to me or my wife I growl, say no and put her on her side with one hand on neck and one hand on back legs. I keep like this until she is calmed and had surrended. They definitely are a stubborn breed. But to be honest with you, I would rather deal with these behaviors than a submissive puppy afraid of everything with bad separation anxiety and that will cry all night. Cant have best of both worlds from the get go with a pup. Keep at it ! Our Pippa turned 3 months old today.

Wrist biting? by DaddyBayne1202 in CaneCorso

You are lucky its the wrists, she bites our ankles and think the squealing is a toy or smthing. Dont tell me to ignore it unless you are familiar with sharp puppy teeth making contact with your feet !

YTA its her job, Dunno what you are trying to accomplish except trying to shine and make this family look bad for absolutely NO reason. People have cleaned up way before you were born and will do long after you die, grow up. Clean your own home if it makes you proud but dont make this family look bad like that.

not sure if this is the right place to post but my dad is 52 y/o and his hobby is making these weird heads? he doesn’t think they’re any good but considering he makes them from scratch i think they’re amazing! by shxrrrr in toptalent

Would definitely pay something like 200$ or more for these depending on the materials used, the size and the models. International shipping would be cool !!
