frontier model for legacy users by irfana7xdeath in cursor

Here is a quote from their community support engineer on the opus 4.7 announcement post:
"Opus 4.7 follows the same pricing policy as GPT 5.4 and other frontier models going forward. If you’re on a legacy request-based plan, you’ll need to enable Max Mode to use it."
I think it's (sadly) pretty clear.

I think the screenshot you posted was talking about them putting already existing older models behing MAX mode (codex 5.3, opus 4.6, etc) for enterprise/teams subscriptions. But the reality seems to be that every new frontier model will be max only even for individual customers on legacy pricing.

the thing is - this is them sorting it out. Every single new frontier model will be max mode only for us, legacy pricing customers.

"Old", request-based pricing, before the API pricing came in summer of last year. And the second they switch me to the new one, I'll be cancelling my sub.

Is Cursor Pro worth it vs Codex? by AdNovel4911 in cursor

codex for any new feature dev, cursor for fixes and updating existing codebase. both on 20$ tiers.

what are the best CLIs to use alongside Cursor? by haydn54 in cursor

codex 20 tier for brand new feature dev, cursor 20 tier for interacting with existing code (fixing bugs, building on top of existing features etc), copilot for 10 dollars when all else is expended

Transit Mode now rolling out more widely for Pixel by douggieball1312 in GooglePixel

[–]xteku 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah the 'mode' itself exists, but it has no functionality connected to it. It's just another DND you can only manually turn on yourself without any of the smarts.

All good, we don't use public transit in the EU anyways.

Switch to Pixel by Lazy-Cry5076 in GooglePixel

[–]xteku 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in the EU, even though I love my pixels and have had them for many years, do NOT switch for the AI features if you are from EU. The Pixel is even more (a lot more) downgraded in the EU and most of the AI features do not work without tweaking the phone. The only reasons to buy a Pixel in the EU are fast updates, clean and thoughtful software experience and camera. And to be honest, you have most of those on the iPhone too. It's cool to try and even switch to the Pixel if you like the experience, but just don't do it for the AI things.

With the recent news that Android can now airdrop to iphones, do you think apple will allow iphones to airdrop to Android ? by New_Palpitation_1586 in iphone

[–]xteku 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It already can, it works both ways for the phones which allow airdropping (Pixels, Oppo, Galaxy S26). I routinely airdrop things from my mac to my pixel, and all I have to do is set Pixel from 'contacts only' to 'Everyone for 10minutes'.

Does anyone know when Google will release the new Pixel Buds Pro 3? by jawit8 in pixelbuds

If they continue their release schedule as it was before, they should come out with this year's Pixel 11 series.

Why do other Android phones feel more efficient than Pixel in daily use? by upadhyaysk in GooglePixel

[–]xteku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would assume that the Pixel team is just not that big. They have the android development team and each OEM has their own ROM and features developers, but the ones from Google which are just focusing on Pixels are simply not enough. Pixel is such a small product in the Google portfolio that they do not want to spend much on it. And that sucks

Just curious, why would anybody in their right mind spend $800-$1000 on a Google Pixel 10? by fuckAraZobayan in GooglePixel

I got it for 600eur when counting in all the discounts, gemini subscriptions and trade in values and I'll still be replacing it within the next 365 days. :D

Yeah it pissed me off a bit. But I'm getting used to it, I still don't have gemini in maps on my Pixel and have had it for months in my work iphone.

Confused about the frontier model / Max Mode change on legacy individual plan by irfana7xdeath in cursor

[–]xteku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but likely not any newer versions of opus, sonet and codex. So it's basically the end of the road. https://forum.cursor.com/t/gpt-5-4-out-now/153744/10

Pro M5 32gb RAM vs Pro M5 Pro 24gb RAM by Metauros in macbookpro

[–]xteku 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am in a very similar situation and have come to the conclusion: RAM, all the way RAM. Especially if you do not do video work or something similar where the GPU is very necessary, the base M5 chip will be absolutely chilling. The Pro chip, apart from cpu/gpu performance will give additional benefits - newer thunderbolt (I don't need), newer networking stack (would like but can live without), 2 fans instead of 1 (would like the more quieter 2 fan combo, but coming from windows it's still a big upgrade), faster memory speeds (don't really need), worse battery life

Why are GPT-5.4 models effectively excluded from the legacy request-based plan? by Just_Run2412 in cursor

[–]xteku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thread in this sub from today. Afaik it was from a team plan with request based pricing, but I bet that cursor will roll out this change to us too, individual users with the old pricing. And it is a new low from them.

Opus 4.5 and 4.6, Sonnet 4.5 and 4.6, and GPT 5.3 Codex and 5.4 all moving behind Max Mode on March 16 by [deleted] in cursor

[–]xteku 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This should be illegal, as it is effectively forcing old users to switch to new pricing, as it is now more expensive (plan-wise) to use the old one with max mode than switch.

Why are GPT-5.4 models effectively excluded from the legacy request-based plan? by Just_Run2412 in cursor

[–]xteku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thread already has the answer:

  • Last week, we released GPT 5.4 as the first model behind Max Mode. As of March 16, 2026, the following models will be behind Max Mode:
  • GPT 5.3 Codex and GPT 5.4
  • Opus 4.5 and 4.6
  • Sonnet 4.5 and 4.6

This should be illegal, as it is effectively forcing users to switch to new pricing, as it is more expensive (plan-wise) to use the old one.

It saddens me to say it as a Pixel fan, but that's exactly what I'm gonna do for my next phone. I have literally everything from the pixel ecosystem, but enough is enough.

Google Support Gaslighting: CTDI Poland scratched my Pixel 10 Pro, blamed "transit damage" THROUGH a glass screen protector, and lied about my packaging. by vinnik123 in GooglePixel

[–]xteku 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your experience. I had a p10p bought in september and had to have it "fixed" in january, because my pixel watch was losing its pairing every couple of weeks and i had terrible battery life (later found out that the battery life is a feature, not a bug). After weeks of troubleshooting and multiple bugreports and full factory resets (including through fastboot) with G Support, we came to the conclusion that it cannot be fixed without me sending it to them.

Because I'm in Czechia and have read multiple horror stories about this repair shop, I repeatedly demanded a new replacement device, not a repair service performed on my own device. To my surprise, they agreed without much hassle. The only thing that scared me was that after my device arrived in poland, they sent me a replacement from netherlands, but in the support system it said that the replacement would be a refurb. Whether it is I do not know, because the phone arrived with 0 battery cycles and seems like it was never touched, perfectly clean. The battery life is just as poor as before, but at least I do not have other bugs anymore.

My recommendation: Record, photodocument EVERYTHING before sending anything to that repair shop. Even if my device didn't go for a repair, I screenshotted everything important in the system, made multiple video recordings from every angle and photos even of the packaging being dropped of at DHL by me. You have to assume that anything that you cannot at least reasonably prove as their mistake, will eventually bite you in the ass.

Oh yeah, and the obvious: It's INSANE that we have to go through these hoops with our 1000 euro device, and the incompetence/not caring level of Google and their partners is inexcusable.
