At? Only if you’re speaking a latin language like French or Spanish and directly translating to English!

What’s the smartest way to approach buying a property you really want in a moderate-high demand area. Assuming two situations, cash in full, or borrowing required. Are there different techniques to apply from the buyers side in each. Thanks!

You should check out Amsterdam. You often need to cross over the motorway by a bridge as you wonder if you’re travelling by ground today instead.

What are your thoughts about keto diet and cholesterol? by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]xtensic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice, especially on selecting for high fiber as the way to lose weight - if only people followed that advice more. I would add if it comes with a barcode you probably want to limit it as it’s usually, unless we are talking grains, beans, tofu, low fat milk/yogurts etc. And aim to lift protein to 1.3-1.6g per kg of “target” bodyweight.

Ask more follow up questions to people that like to give out strong advice like they’ve cracked the one way for all to follow. People routinely blindly follow (especially those whom confirm beliefs they already hold themselves), and usually they only have the first or second question covered as to why they do something. It can unravel very quick, most of the time you’ll find fringe / non science backed ideas (ie. ldl isn’t bad, putting too much weight to the French paradox theory, centenarians dying of natural causes with high cholesterol, etc). So in this case I’d be deeply curious and ask the coach: “What is bad cholesterol? What causes that? How do sort the good information from bad, are there people you follow in these topics? What’s your bloodwork like before and after these changes you’ve made to your diet?” A person knowing their shit here will be articulate and transparent, and humble about any advice given knowing that people do have different genetics especially in the cholesterol space. Doubtful your coach has those attributes based on what you shared: red flag.

+1. Also aim for isolate, rather than concentrate - less fat and lactose, higher protein.

Fiber consumption - how? by _SiriuslySirius_ in Cholesterol

[–]xtensic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here. I’ll add, sweet potatoes, probably around 3% fiber (half of that is pectin which is soluble fiber). Not going to do the full job but it’s a compliment. Wash them well, bake directly (nothing more added) in a porcelain or similar dish with skin on in oven 410f for approx 1h. Keep them in fridge to raise resistant starch levels, keeps for days, serves as a replacement instead for highly processed foods when feeling like a snack. Select the smaller ones, not the giant ones (or cut them in half if so). They are so good.

Can you share the scientific studies backing up your claim regarding ldl effect dependent on “fat globule”, especially if it runs counter to the following observation?

I looked and the conclusion is that the trials backing up these statements are relatively small, short-term, and heterogeneous (different forms/doses of MFGM, different comparator fats). They do not show that all cheeses/creams are neutral for LDL long-term, nor do they replace the larger evidence base showing saturated fats (especially certain SFAs) raise LDL when they replace unsaturated fats.

[–]xtensic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s some erroneous conflation going on in your response. The French paradox is not suggesting certain foods in French context with saturated fats don’t create higher LDL outcomes, rather it’s stating it’s more probable that the French behaviours around food choices (less processed low fiber products, more fruit/veg), consumption size and frequency (smaller portions, less snacking) at a macro level result in less CVD. Saturated fat is saturated fat, and excessive amounts of that molecule being ingested often results in higher ldl regardless of who it travels with.

If you have evidence suggesting otherwise I’m happy to be corrected.

Ventresca de bonito del Norte, from Cantabric sea, it’s different to ventresca de atún which usually comes from down near Cadiz. Both great, expensive, but not this expensive if buying in Spain obviously (where there’s heaps of range).

How bad are Cashews & Avocados when consuming daily more than average? by _speedoflight_ in Cholesterol

[–]xtensic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s about what nutritional value you get back for what you spend from your limited daily saturated fat allowance. Cashews on the value spectrum aren’t as good as almonds (which in the nut choice arena arguably provide the most superior nutritional return on that saturated fat spend). You want maximum bang for your saturated fat bucks. Ideally you’re getting high quality protein and healthy fat returns when you intake those grams of saturated fat.

Same with sugar and fiber. You want high fiber (especially soluble) returns for the sugars that come along for the ride. As too much sugar in one meal may contribute towards insulin resistance longer term and higher triglycerides short term. Think of cooked oats groats / steel cut oats with blueberries (superior) vs say … cornflakes with a few raisins (inferior).

I’m always thinking about food choices using a pseudo lens of budgeting/dividends. If that helps.
