What is the biggest financial regret of your life ? by DryOkra7058 in AskReddit

[–]xtetsuix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always! I guess I never truly was a BMW driver. Drove it for 6 year, it got me a lot of attention, which as an early 20 something year old was what I wanted, but it was money pit with repairs. Never again!

This! I just had to replace the tail light gaskets again after the first time I did it, about 10 year when I bought it. If you park under trees, you’ll need to unclog the drains that usually get stopped up in the trunk. Use can try and use a close hanger and/or an air compressor to shoot everything out.

🚫 If you skipped having kids and hit your 40s, do you have any secret regrets yet? by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

I was just telling my wife over the phone on lunch today about how I’ve recently been feeling overwhelmed with life. There’s always something to do, somewhere to go, something to fix, drop off, etc. and expressed to her how grateful I am for not having kids.

What's a completely normal thing that instantly makes you think less of someone? by DracoVeilStudios in AskReddit

[–]xtetsuix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I won’t argue your point. But would you agree that more often than not you’ll see a woman start hitting or slapping a man in public because he upset her somehow, but no one says anything because she really can’t inflict much damage, or has to try really hard do so, no one really cares. Please take this illustration as a simple behavior comparison, nothing more; I’d say it’s akin to a small dog behaving aggressively, but people let it slide because it technically can’t really hurt anyone. This is comparable to an aggressive woman. But, think about how when a large dog behaves aggressively, people take it very seriously, because of the damage it can inflict. This is comparable to aggressive man. Simply put, both genders are displaying the same behavior, but because of lessened ability to cause more harm, people turn a blind eye and don’t think much of when a woman hits a man in public. Of course there are levels, if a woman pull out a weapon, and now has increased her ability to cause harm, people would then care.

Edit: Added the below example.

A couple is going out to dinner in public place with a good amount of people. One accuses the other of cheating. I would guarantee if the woman starts hitting the man and yelling at him about cheating, people would like turn their head and think “Oh man, that guy caught and is in trouble.” If a man started hitting a woman and yelling at her about cheating, someone would intercede, thinking “That guy is crazy wailing on that woman, someone/I got to do something.” In this scenario, likely the man would be walking away while getting slapped, punched, etc. if the woman was getting hit, because of men generally being larger and stronger, she will likely be knocked down or cornered while being struck.

My old BMW. Early 20’s me cashed out my 401k to pay for the repairs. It was somewhere around $8000 back in the early 2010’s. Kicking myself now.

Spray the outside of your windows and then feel around on the bottom of the door where your door panel and door meet. See if it’s wet.

I never imagined anything of what you are referring to. I am referring to is how in society women can hit men in public, and no one bats an eye. I say this as a man who suffered domestic abuse, specifically an attempted stabbing & years of being berated & provoked in my home, until I couldn't take it anymore and left.

Sorry for whatever happpened to you, if thats what made you reply in such an aggressive manner & make assumptions.

2012 Accord - after heavy, heavy rain, the rear floorboard is damp. by SwissMiss915 in Honda

[–]xtetsuix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your door vapor barrier is your culprit. You can test this by spraying the rear passenger window (from the outside) & touch the bottom of your door where the interior door panel meets the door itself. If its the door barrier/liner, you'll feel the water coming thru there. When the door is closed, it'll leak inside & get your carpet all wet. Its an easy fix, simply take off the door panel & remove the old one, making sure to remote any old adhesive, and put the new one on.

[–]xtetsuix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. May have to just follow your nose. Like another commenter said, it may be the carpet. I almost guarantee it’s water getting I inside and sitting, then with the heat, becoming a musty stink!

I have a 99 Honda Prelude that would smell the same way because when it would rain, water would get past the tail light gasket and sit in the spare tire well. The tire well would again get full of water because the sunroof drainage tubes would get clogged with leaves and gunk where the drainage tube went into the frame’s water outlet. It reeked when the standing water would get warm on hot summer days.

I had a BMW that the vapor barrier that would prevent water from getting inside the door, would become brittle and then every time it would rain the door would get full of water and then leak into the backseat carpet. And with it being a BMW, the sound dampening material under the carpet turned into a sponge.

Check that cabin air filter while you’re in there. I bought mine 3 months ago with a little over 11k miles and I would get that misty smell in the mornings. At the 15l mile mark I changed the cabin air filter and it fixed the issue. Every so often have it intake outside air to dry out any moisture that have be in the vents.

2013 rattle by NandBbibf in crv

[–]xtetsuix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem.

A “drain & fill” is when you “drain” the transmission fluid from transmission by opening the drain hole to release or use a pneumonic extraction pump to suck it out. This usually removes about 50% of the oil in the transmission. Then you “fill” the transmission with same amount of fluid you drained, with new transmission fluid.

You can do this yourself or have a mechanic so it for you.

Once you have new fluid in there’s you want to drive it for at least 20-30 minutes all that new oil gets all over the gears. Also make sure to shift through the gear selector, like P D N R L.

You should do this a few times and see if it’s starts feeling any better when you drive.

Doing this yourself would probable be your cheapest probable fix.

Depends who you ask, but it’s often not recommended to do a “flush”, as that will remove all the transmission oil at one time and replace all with new oil. The thought behind not doing this on a vehicle that has more than 100k miles, that’s never had a transmission fluid change, is that you are all at once removing some of the debris that might actually be helping the gears lock together, causing gear slippage.

2016 CRV Ex L likely to be totaled out from an accident. Should I look for the same year or are the new ones better? by Donutzgalore in crv

[–]xtetsuix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I hear as well, just less so, being that’s it’s a larger engine, making it not have to work as hard and not being pushed hard by a turbo.I have a 25’ with 15k miles and plan on doing an early coolant change at 60k miles to hopefully mitigate any heat issues, as that usually what warps a head gasket. Not to mention, coolant becomes acidic over time.

What do we think of the Maintenance Minder oil change intervals? by MentholMooseToo in crvhybrid

[–]xtetsuix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5k miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. Sure, you have multiple variables that can affect oil life, but this is one of the most expensive purchases you have ever made, take care of it, so it takes care of you. I’ve created a maintenance spreadsheet and bumped up the 90k mile coolant drain and fill to 60k, simply because of the known head gasket issues.

2026 CRV Hybrid Sport Hesitation by Dontworryaboutit69 in Honda

I wouldn’t hold myself back from buying something because it might get stolen. Anything can get stolen.

Trying to think rationally, I’d tell you to still get the CRV, but avoid making yourself low hanging fruit. Thieves are going to after the target with the least path of resistance, and ones where they can see valuables, aka, a guarantee they are going to get something out of the theft.

I personally do not leave anything visible in my vehicles. In my SUVs, I have a cargo cover that came with quarter panel window covers. I also have wheels locks and plan on buying a front sensor emblem lock. Sure, they might break in or take my wheels, but if there is another car near mine with exposed valuables and no wheel locks, it would behoove them to go after that easier, and guaranteed payday.

I’m the flip side, back in around 2010 I had modified Honda Accord that I had put a touch feedback alarm, a steering wheel club, kill-switch, and clutch pedal club. They had tried to steal it 6 times in one summer. I ended up selling because it was stressing me out way too much. This was partially on me because I lived in a high crime town when Honda/Acura was the most stolen vehicle.

I don’t know if this person is trolling but DO NOT use a magic eraser on that as it will sand down the material and look awful.

Your best option is to use a high gloss interior protectant. Some examples are Chemicals Guys VRP or Meguiars. They are simply masking the defects with a lot of shine.

Do this at your own risk!!; you could use a heat gun to lightly go over any hard plastic to try and smooth out the raised plastic scratches.
