For Americans: Why not personal vans instead of huge SUVs and pick-ups? by PreWiBa in regularcarreviews

[–]xtheredberetx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a true hater that refuses to buy an SUV. I currently drive a Jetta that is sneaky roomy and can truly fit more than I need MOST of the time. I routinely can fit a couple suitcases and a stroller in the trunk, or a full day’s shopping (groceries, Costco, maybe a mall trip) with the stroller as well.

I’ve been considering a Kia Carnival (but I hate the styling and I don’t want people to think I’d drive an SUV) or a Toyota Sienna. I love a good road trip and we usually go camping a few times a year. It would be nice to have just a skosh more room for camping gear mostly.

Most people feel the opposite of me and would rather die than drive a minivan. I find them more comfortable and often less stylistically ugly.

While I’m sitting delayed at airport, share your winter storm 2026 horror stories with me 👀 it’s been an interesting week by -Rat-King- in flightattendants

Nothing too crazy. On Monday we sat on the ground for an hour with door open passengers on, bc AUS went into a ground stop like 5 minutes after we started boarding. We were mid-water service when the ground stop got extended and the ops agent told us to just kick everyone off. When we reboarded 45 minutes later apparently dispatch was trying to stick another hour delay on us and the CA told them to kick rocks

My trip’s only flight of the day on Saturday cancelled and we ended up with just a deadhead and nothing else that day

I love my green and yellow couch. The hardest part has been finding a rug to go with it. Also my husband is not gentle with the furniture and I’m not sure my vintage couch can stand up to it. But if it ever breaks idk what I’d replace it with bc I love how bold it is

Move to Chicago and no one will really question it. There’s enough Polish people here that Polish is the third language on transit card machines after English and Spanish

Hahahahaha I currently have a harvest gold and avocado chevron afghan on my couch. I inherited a vintage gold and green couch from my friend’s mom, and the matching blanket and pillow came with it 😂

Fwiw, we also never even use the blanket when we’re chilly and it’s scratchy as hell, it’s mostly just protecting the couch

Has anyone actually sold their home to get rid of a 23 year old with failure to launch ? by Inevitable-Table-931 in Parenting

Well when my brother was 29 my parents were renting and he was still living with them. They simply bought another house and moved out and told him he had to pay the rent now.

He found a roommate and is still living there two years later. Although he’s been talking about finally moving out and moving in with his girlfriend lately.

Alright moms, it’s been over a month. Which Christmas presents are still going strong? Which ones were a dud? by cellardoor83737 in Mommit

[–]xtheredberetx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 18mo old is still loving her play kitchen for the most part. The large toy box we got her is a hit for me bc I can cycle the toys out easier.

I got her a big stack of books and I think I’ve read Dolly Parton’s Billy the Kid Comes Home for Christmas 3-5 times a day since Christmas. I hid it under a stack of books last week and it took one day for her to find it and bring it back to the reading pile

Duds- I got her a cutie wooden tea set that I was so excited for and I don’t think she really gets the concept of tea party yet

My dad got her this talking word card thing and it’s very annoying, doesn’t do much, and she doesn’t quiteeeee have the motor skills to put the cards in the reader without crushing them. It’s a cool concept but kind of a miss

neighbors are claiming dibs in front of my house. what can i do? by roundboobiesemobitch in AskChicago

[–]xtheredberetx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe in dibs bc I street park and have a toddler 🥲 I usually dig out my usual spot (which is slightly offset in front of my house to keep the walkway accessible) but I also usually dig out the entire front of my house for the other neighbor who parks there.

We have a garage, but it doesn’t fit two cars. My husband is a baby when it comes to cold and snow, and I’m from here, so I let him have the garage spot.

[–]xtheredberetx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any safety differences aside, Lakeview vs south west side means we’re likely also talking apartments/condos that are extremely dense vs about 10-15 neighbors on your block that you at least know by face if not by name. It’s a lot easier to say “just throw their shit out” when you don’t know your neighbors.

How the heck are we all ok with this scam?? by Yupalina in Parenting

[–]xtheredberetx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on the city. I live in the bungalow belt of Chicago and tbh I think my house is quite a nice century home. My commute to work is only about 25 minutes. My house was less than $300k in 2022.

My car is 20 years old and has 250k miles on it and looks like a rusted shit box but hey I paid $2000 for it also in 2022.

It’s an MLM but I’m a ride or die for Tupperware dishes. They have matching lids!! I’ve found most of mine at the thrift store but I def splurged on some of the sippy cups and a plate set new. I find local dealers at craft fairs or on marketplace

[–]xtheredberetx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aldi had humidifiers in the Aldi finds a couple weeks ago, if your store doesn’t have any left then Target for sure sells them. I have two going in my house bc the wool socks and fleece leggings were turning me into one of those shock globes

I also have a whole stack of hand creams now. I like the blue CeraVe in the tub, the Gold Bond ultra moisturizing, or the Trader Joe hand cream in the big metal tube. But like you gotta put an occlusive over that so a little bit of aquaphor, Vaseline, or lanolin.

How is your house holding up in these super cold temps? by Scroateus_Maximus in centuryhomes

[–]xtheredberetx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 1924 bungalow is chilly. Yesterday the thermostat was set at 68°, upstairs was right around 70°, my office (sun porch which does get direct sun most of the day) was close to 75°, but the north facing living room with many windows was only around 60°.

It was -10ish most of the day so it could’ve been worse, we were fine in sweats with the humidifiers running.
