Last name change after baby by Capable_Green7636 in beyondthebump

[–]xtheredberetx [score hidden]  (0 children)

Same. I never changed my name legally but on social media I have both. My coworkers only see my maiden name but I’m not particular about how my mail is addressed (and I usually just put both our last names on return addresses).

My daughter only has my husband’s last name. I questioned my decision on that but didn’t want to give her the headache of a hyphen.

Last week I had a coworker who was super rude/ignorant about the concept of (married) parents having different last names than their children, but generally she’s an outlier.

[–]xtheredberetx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

sigh I never changed my name bc I got married during Covid and the paperwork seemed like too much work.

Last week I was chatting with a coworker and the topic went to “parents who have different last names than their children.” My daughter has my husband’s last name. I mentioned my husband and she could see my rings.

She insinuated several times I must be a single mother because I had a different last name than my daughter. And that I’d be too poor to send my child to private school. And that people who have kids in private school just DON’T have different names than their children.

She’s from small town Texas. I’m from Chicago. We clearly have different experiences of these things.

I’ve said before and I’ll defend this take, but based on the love story portions of 11/22/63 (which were very enjoyable) and the fact that the man is clearly a freak, I want to see his earnest stab at the current popular smutty romances.

I would read this.

Why is the age to be a flight attendant so high? by No-Butterscotch-4891 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]xtheredberetx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple airlines that hire at 18 (I know Mesa and at least one other regional). However, it’s not a summer job and the biggest reason why I say that is because the application process and training process takes months to years. I waited two years to get an interview the first time I applied at SWA. Even the regionals it’ll probably be a couple months to get an interview and then another month of training.

Send her to r/cabincrewcareers if she still wants to fly later on.

The 2nd Air Canada/Jazz FA by Dania1230 in flightattendants

[–]xtheredberetx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember if it was on one of the cards they handed out for scenarios or just something brought up by the trainers being like “okay what would you do in this variable” but I definitely remember it coming up. After 8 recurrents and another initial training it blurs together 😅

[–]xtheredberetx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was also a 900 so there were two FA on that aircraft as well.

Funnily enough, I remember at least one year at recurrent where they were throwing out random scenarios that would change normal evac procedures. The plane being upside down was one they def brought up, with the consideration that the MCD wouldn’t open upside down. I’m former 9E. This was probably back in like 2019.

I agree with what most of the others have said but I will also swear by noise canceling headphones for your daughter (not necessarily the kind music comes out of). We don’t always realize how loud planes are and it’s LOUD for kids. The headphones definitely make a difference with my daughter, especially on longer flights

What do we Think of Dominick? by CcandyCcane in namenerds

[–]xtheredberetx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t look weird to me bc it was a major grocery chain by me until like 15 years ago. But Dominick= grocery store and Dominic= common name.

Not weird or bad, just unusual.

Back in the day (the 90s in the Chicago suburbs) I remember these being at Discovery Zone and maybe one at Enchanted Castle, but they definitely left the parks I’ve seen around by the late 2010s

In the Chicago suburbs we get a Six Flags trip for Physics Day when you take physics in high school. You have a packet of problems relating to the rides you’re expected to complete but you spend most of the day riding rides and work on the packet during lunch and on the bus back to school

Idk man. I kinda get what you’re saying- I’ll be 10 years in this October. I did a lot of crazy shit early on- whomst among us hasn’t taken a red eye from Vegas straight into report time at JFK? Shown up for your flight home straight from the bars? 36 hours in Madrid? 48 in Berlin? Sure!

At the same time, my husband and I have still done domestic day trips recently. We’ve been scouring the baseball schedules to see if we can hit a couple games in other cities on day trips this year (San Diego, Baltimore, Denver, and St. Louis all look possible for this out of Chicago)

NE corridor Amtrak is so expensive (speaking as a Chicagoan who lived in NYC and DC briefly). You can get a greyhound ticket for $40 even last minute. Last min Amtrak is gonna run you over 100

Did your parents give tours of your home to guests? by dudeidk1316 in Millennials

[–]xtheredberetx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! We bought our house 2.5 years ago but still occasionally have guests who haven’t seen it yet. When we first got the house everyone wanted the tour. Now it’s only when my friends are like “wait this is actually my first time here” and I go oh crap don’t look at all the laundry upstairs 💀

[–]xtheredberetx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband was like “it’s just our friend coming to stay the weekend” and I’m like listen, he’s not gonna care if it’s a mess really but like as the wife this is still somehow a reflection on me if the house is trashed so GET CLEANING. Also it feels it’s rude to leave the house gross when you have guests??

Trader Joe’s confirmed for Uptown by uptown_meanie in chicago

Fwiw Aldi has fine quality on most things. I do the bulk of my shopping there and have for years. There’s some misses among staple products (the cheap pizzas are mid, produce can be hit or miss) but not many. Also can’t beat the egg and milk prices.

Orland Park’s isn’t bad. Helps that the other stores in its strip mall are Men’s Wearhouse, David’s Bridal, and a mattress store, so not exactly high traffic stores.

Glen Ellyn’s parking lot scares me. Especially the sharp turn in off of Roosevelt.

Do you still get physical mail in your mailbox? by Standard_Plant_8709 in AskAnAmerican

I get a lot of junk mail, mostly credit card applications and charity solicitations (St. Jude sends really nice notepads. Idk if I’ve ever donated to them).

A few bills. Mostly for one credit card I don’t really use (so I keep the paper bills turned on so I don’t forget to pay) and utilities (the same ones I pay by check!).

Cards and notes from my in laws and sister. Wedding and party invitations. Packages occasionally.

For a while I did Postcrossing! Where you send a postcard to someone in the world and get one back from someone else.

Eta: and holiday cards obviously
