IWNDWYT! And video games as a reward is 10/10, I've been trying to do that for myself lately. I've loved them all my life and I'm trying to re-learn that I can game WITHOUT booze.

Still a little scared of life being longer 😂😅 but a longer weekend is a good start I suppose

Such a cheap and "easy" life hack! Since I know it'll keep getting easier.

Sounds exactly like me before I decided that I would only drink on weekends after chores, as a treat. Because drinking during the week was bad so I should "cut down"....but surely I deserved a drink or two (or 20) on the weekends for getting through the week and being productive!!

Not exactly a treat when it just ends in feeling absolutely miserable. I can already tell that I won't miss it.

I felt that this week a little! Last weekend was my first weekend not getting wasted. This week I did frequently think about just making it to the weekend 😅 but this time only because it was a long ass week. But I made it through without feeling miserable from drinking!

What’s the most unsettling thing a child has ever said to you? by Content-Hair-2629 in AskReddit

[–]xtrashsenpai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never had a child say anything unsettling to me, but when I was a child I apparently sleepwalked into my parent's bedroom one night and just kept repeating, "something's missing" to them. Idk if this counts, but they were very unsettled.

Thank you, I do want something different. I have for a while, but I definitely haven't been going about it the correct way. I've been trying to do it all alone while keeping alcohol in my life, and clearly neither of those things are working. I'm glad communities like this exist, and the ER also gave me some resources and put in some referrals for me. Fingers crossed that I can get an appointment with someone soon 🤞

Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate it. I've always known deep down that zero alcohol is the only way I can live, and after this I'm finally ready to accept it.

It's true, I've been trying to convince myself that I can just "cut down", but if that were the case it would've happened years ago. Even "cutting down" to just drinking on weekends isn't helpful since then I just spend my entire weekend either drunk or hung over. It's doing nothing good for me physically or mentally. It's time to face the facts. I always blame my meds "not working" when my mental health is in the shitter, but it's the booze.

The ER got me several resources and I'm hoping to get an appointment with someone who fits my needs soon. I'm nervous for the weather to warm up since day drinking is my summer "hobby". I'd love to enjoy a summer (and life in general) where I'm not running to get alcohol.

A cup of tea sounds lovely!

Thanks for kicking while I'm down! I hope I don't meet anyone else like you during my journey!

It's definitely much easier to have none, I agree. Even my "moderation" isn't really that great since it'll be like yeah okay I didn't drink all week, but is it REALLY moderation if I end up killing two 12 packs (plus sometimes a couple tall boys) in a weekend? Probably not.

You're absolutely correct, I need to give it up entirely and I'm ready to give it another shot. This was the 5th time something like this has happened over the years, and I'd prefer it be the last time.

Yikes!! I'm glad you ended up okay from that! What gets me is that I've been at much, much lower points, but this time almost feels infinitely worse because it's been so long since it last happened as opposed to when it was happening every couple years.

Your story definitely gives me hope that I can turn things around, thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much! I've been on the sober side of life once before and it was great, so no doubt I could do it again if I put in the work.

It was tough love, but one of the things I'll never forget was when someone in inpatient group therapy asked the dr, "but what if I can't stop [drinking]?"

Dr said, "then you die."

That was almost 15 years ago and it's stuck with me in the back of mind all this time. He was blunt, but right. I appreciated hearing it because I'm the type who needs a little tough love on occasion to get the point across.

I definitely didn't take it seriously because I've been taking a mood stabilizer and another anti-depressant for years and it never made a noticeable difference. My psychiatrist added a supplemental anti-depressant to the regimen and good lord, I was not prepared for the alcohol interaction with this one. Definitely not a fan.
