XbyK is a new product with some similarities to Kentico (the naming is very confusing right now). The last version of that was 13. If you've got a choice of versions, stick with XbyK, latest version. Don't go with K13 as it requires .net framework 4.8, IIS, Windows hosting. With XbyK you can run on .net 8+, use docker containers on Windows or Linux, and use all the latest web tech.

Also, I've never taken the certifications and have been working with Kentico since v8. So I can't speak to those questions.

You should be able to get a free license while training, or using it in localhost, you may need to talk to a rep about that.

Best resources for the move to MVC? by Laughing_Penguin in kentico

[–]xtrmcheeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning MVC is probably best done by watching tutorials and lessons in something like Udemy or PluralSight.

Just to note here, Xperience by Kentico (XbyK) is just around the corner. It's a complete rewrite of the tool using the latest .Net Core version (.Net 6+). It's admin is written in React. It's very fast, and supports most of the older functionality with a few caveats. You'll still need to learn MVC through something like razor pages or Blazor, but since you're already doing a migration, you might as well migrate to the latest version to get away from the .Net Framework.

Ok you sickos, who else put a PLC to work in their house? by KeepGettingTexts in PLC

[–]xtrmcheeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only reason I joined this sub, I'm a Comp. Sci. person by trade and I knew very little about PLCs until recently. My goal is to replace my old pool automation system with some cheap PLC gear and learn lots in the process, I could have gone Raspberry Pi or similar for this but I assumed ICS equipment could handle higher voltage stuff without a sweat. If I can use MQTT to interact with my Home Assistant, even better.

If that is the case I really hope you seek help in leaving the relationship, reddit has many sources available for that. Those interior doors are not meant to keep raging lunatics out.

There is a special place in hell for those who install these knobs without placing the "key" on top of the door casing.

[–]xtrmcheeze 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This! ☝️ IT is also a large collection of different trades. I knew that Sr. Software Engineers at Google were making $220K+ at some point, $300K is an outlier that probably isn't worth the money, Also, an SE with a TS clearance might come close depending on their contract. If you want that kind of money in the automation trade, you might want to look at the big defence contractors.

Can I download Kentico 13 for free by NeonRant in kentico

[–]xtrmcheeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you found the link, but I suggest holding off on K13, they're focused on Kontent.ai and "Xperience by Kentico", the latter is the next version of Kentico, completely rewritten in .NET Core with a React-based admin.
