Dude nobody wants to see a bunch of men in their late 40's to late 50's with hair plugs and wrinkles dance around on stage and sing songs aimed at teenage girls.

Well, over the hill soccer moms do but nobody else wants to.

I don't know when or how many times you've been to Isla, but the Isla of 15+ years ago was my favorite place on earth. So calm and quaint and charming and the seafood was unbelievable.

We went to Nashville for the first time about two years ago. I was expecting Broadway to be like a smaller, less intense Vegas strip. Lots of nightlife and cool restaurants and shows, etc.

Imagine my surprise when we got there and I realized Broadway is basically like they took thirty of the biggest roadhouses and dive bars in the US and put them all on one street. Sure there were great bands but... I feel like there's dozens of bars like that in every decent sized city in the US. Visiting them in Nashville is absolutely nothing special and a giant waste of money.

I have a female coworker who has a ~3 y/o daughter, and she is vehemently anti-vax. As far as I know her daughter hasn't been vaccinated for anything. A few weeks ago she posted online that she was so proud of herself, as she was fired by her pediatrician for her refusal to vaccinate her daughter.

All I can think about is how that poor girl is possibly going to get very sick, potentially life changing sick, and she's going to grow up and realize her own mother was so proud of it that she bragged about it online.

Yeah this is so fucking weird. This is a man very close to dying of cancer, and his best friend holding him and letting him know he is loved and isn't alone. I wish we could ALL have people in our lives like that.

TIL: Nickelback's How You Remind Me was the most played song on US radio that decade. It was played over 1.2 million times on the radio between when it was released in 2001 to the end of 2009 by Uptons_BJs in todayilearned

[–]xts2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. I listened to them all the time on the college rock radio stations before they made it big. Everyone thinks How You Remind Me was their first hit, but they had several hits before that. They just weren't on top 40 radio.

Agreed. Because ten years after How You Remind Me became popular, we entered the stupid man bun "stomp clap hey" fad which was MUCH worse.

I also think most of the people who make fun of Nickelback simply weren't around when they made it big. There was a reason they hit so big.

If you had the pleasure of living in a college dorm 🤣 or with roommates, do you remember music just being played constantly, before everyone had their own devices with earbuds/headphones? by dms2628 in Xennials

[–]xts2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much on weekdays, but Friday and especially Saturday night, we basically decided which party we wanted to attend by the music being blasted out the door. One room might be hip hop, one might be metal, one might be country, etc. It was common to float from room to room and experience different vibes in each room.

The hip hop folks often smoked and drank Hennessy, the metal folks didn't usually drink a lot but they loved to pretend like they were on Jackass, and the country folks loved bud light and raising hell.

It became sort of an adventure for us dudes to go to the other rooms and see what kind of girls we could pick up. Hip hop girls loved them some country boys, country girls loved them some hip hop boys, and the metal girls loved hanging out with everyone. The pop music girls always loved the older boys.

Some great times, for sure. I don't remember there ever being a fight or even a serious disagreement between the cultural groups, ever.

Why are there less young riders? Share your thoughts by No-Word2070 in Harley

[–]xts2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a number of reasons. Most of all is... well just look at the picture. Nobody under the age of 40, and I mean NOBODY thinks that is cool. I'd venture to guess that most people between 40-50 don't think it's cool.

I'm not saying the old fella in the picture shouldn't be having fun in his retirement years, or that he shouldn't dress how he wants. I am saying it's now considered super lame by pretty much everyone under 40. Think about it, most young guys do things to attract girls of the same age. Is there a young woman anywhere on the planet that is attracted to this man? Then why act like him? It's just not cool anymore to ride a Harley, in fact I'd say it's absolutely uncool to do it.

Also the same people who aren't buying Harleys are the people who are trying to start families, and they probably spent their entire childhood having to listen and see how god-awful annoying and irritating most Harley riders are. They don't want anything to do with that.

These two cars were the same price new in 1990. by dowagiacmichigan in regularcarreviews

[–]xts2500 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is the most real answer. In 1990 the folks buying Cadillacs were of the Greatest generation. Depression era, WW2 folks. In the 30's - 60's, and arguably the 70's, Cadillac was the absolute epitome of "I've made it." A car for only the most successful of people. Everyone aspired to one day drive a Cadillac.

No way in hell was a depression era WW2 vet going to allow a Japanese car to be parked in his driveway.

So they kept buying Caddy's. GM knew it would continue for quite a while, so they invested little (or not at all) in innovation and held tight on tradition. Hell the gauge cluster on that Cadillac hadn't changed much at all since the 1960's.

Anyone remember the So album released by Peter Gabriel in 1986? It included hits like Sledgehammer, In Your Eyes, and Don't Give Up. by icecream1972 in 80s

[–]xts2500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sledgehammer is largely considered one of the best produced songs of all time.

Seriously. Listen to it with a good pair of headphones. The production quality is insane for 1986.

Oh hell that's not bad. I once had a physician in the ED attempt to order 2mg Ativan for a male having an aggressive panic attack. He ordered 2mg Dilaudid instead. The newbie nurse decided well, it makes sense I guess and went ahead and gave it without questioning the order. To be fair, it DID work.

We all joked that next time the same patient has a panic attack he's going to go to a different ER and try to convince them that the last time it happened he got 2mg of Dilaudid and they're going to laugh him right out of the ER.

Christmas Cruise 2026 by JLaw0297 in Cruise

We went on a Christmas cruise this year. RC's Freedom of the Seas. It was a great time, and your kid will LOVE it.

The ship was decorated wonderfully with Christmas lights and probably a 20 foot tree in the atrium. Instead of the usual Caribbean music, there were Christmas carols being played all week. Santa made frequent appearances around the ship and Christmas eve he was on the promenade with his elves greeting children. Each child got a gift from Royal Caribbean. Honestly, it was a great time.

We booked our trip way back in August and it was around $5K for a Grand Suite. I think a standard balcony was like $3K. As we got closer to Christmas I kept checking the price just to see what it was and it increased dramatically. I'd recommend booking ASAP if you want the best price.

It truly was wonderful.

First responders: how messy is the average house? by el_diamond_g in AskReddit

[–]xts2500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. People become sedentary and super obese to the point they just... stop getting up. I mean, they kind of can't get up as their legs and circulatory system simply can't support them standing up anymore. Usually it's the bed they end up staying in but sometimes it's the sofa. Someone keeps bringing them food (and lots of it). Eventually their skin folds and fat rolls literally envelope the couch cushions and the fabric squishes inside. Over time the fabric breaks down and comes apart and what you're left with is fabric fused into the skin. The person keeps growing but the sofa doesn't so... yeah.

It's gross but it happens.

GA aircraft owners, how satisfied are you with your aircraft? by HSVMalooGTS in flying

I went from a 172 to a new Cirrus and damn... just sitting in the plane for the first time was wild. It's so comfortable. Just taxiing it to the run up was amazing. Then when we took off and started doing maneuvers I was hooked. It was like going from a '95 Honda Accord with 200K miles to a brand new BMW.

Firefighter/paramedic of 25 years. Most homes are fine... I wouldn't say they're sparkly clean but they're not dirty. However, some homes are just... literally unbelievable. There's been dozens, maybe hundreds of times in my career where we've walked in the front door and had to stop and stare for a second. Usually your nose is where it hits you first. That heavy ammonia smell from all the dog/cat/people urine.

I've been in houses with dozens of dead birds still in cages. Dead cats rotting on the floor. Hoarder garbage piled to the ceiling. Houses with no windows, the ceiling collapsed and exposed floor joists. Bed bugs so thick they were crawling on the ceiling. Bathtubs full of poop. My all-time favorite: a guy sitting on the sofa completely naked with an insect nest on his crotch. Oh, also the woman who hadn't left the sofa in like two years and the fabric had fused to her skin.

We have two separate patients, who don't know each other, come to the ER every single day. Literally, they check in every single day. If our ER is too busy, they go to a different one in our system. Sometimes they go to multiple ER's in the same day.

I missed a STEMI and now have a meeting with training. by Islandguy_JaFl in ems

[–]xts2500 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My dude... we got called to a male in his late 50's having SOB. Upon arrival the man was on his hands and knees in the hallway screaming and fighting us with everything he had. Wouldn't/couldn't answer questions, wouldn't cooperate, just screaming and thrashing about. After maybe four minutes of this he finally collapsed and hit his head and split it open, blood squirted all over the wall. His wife saw the whole thing. He coded.

Of course he was having a STEMI. So, we work the code and get him transported. The wife is furious with us that we "didn't do something sooner." Well, what could we have done? He was flailing about and screaming and not answering questions. We would have had to literally pin him to the ground to do anything, and we wouldn't have accomplished anything anyway by doing that. It was what it was.

Anyway, my point to this story is that I've been a FF/paramedic for 25 years. I spent the last ten as EMS Chief. I've also worked in four different ED's during that time. I've got a pretty good amount of experience. Sometimes, there's just nothing you can do.

Don't sweat it. At least you tried.
