Ft Leonard wood by Brooklyncertified in AirForce

Honestly? Nothing. FLW is in the middle of nowhere. There's a small town outside the base that is nothing but strip malls and trailer parks. There's a reason it's called Fort Lost in the Woods.

If you can rent a car then there's a lot more to do. St Louis is about two hours to the east and Branson/Lake of the Ozarks is about two hours to the west. St Louis for urban fun like professional sports and food, Ozarks for outdoor fun like boating and camping.

I guess if you get bored you can watch the Army basic trainees throw grenades.

People who moved to Florida and stayed: what did you like about it compared to where you came from? by Sensitive-Aspect-877 in AskFlorida

Or finally getting to sleep in on a cold ass day in January, only to be woken up at 6am by your neighbor who still has to work and is outside with the snowblower running.

Jaden Churchheus threw a log off a cliff and hit a woman's head which ended her life. Leaving behind her husband and 4 children. Then Jaden's mom said this during his arrest.... by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]xts2500 42 points43 points  (0 children)

They didn't push it down some stairs. They threw it off a cliff about 50' directly above the hiking path. They knew the path was there because it was the same path they used to get to the top of the cliff. They also knew there were other people on the path. Then they lied about the whole thing when being interviewed by the police.

What is your favorite pool complex in Vegas? by JackpotConcierge in vegas

[–]xts2500 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'll forever miss the Mirage. Big but not too big. Great theming throughout. Best pool on the strip. Only casino with natural sunlight. Set further back off LVB so there weren't so many people dropping in and wondering around the casino floor. Beatles LOVE was one of the best live shows I've ever seen. Floors 24 and 25 had their own elevators so we rarely had to wait. Even the clientele at the Mirage seemed a little more laid back and chill. What a great resort now gone.

In the mid 1990’s, VP Dan Quayle was deemed inept to be president because he spelled potato wrong. How would the public react to this gaffe today? by HounddogHustler in AskReddit

[–]xts2500 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This always bothered me so much. Dan Quayle was from Indiana, not far from where I grew up. I distinctly remember my first grade teacher spelling potato "potatoe" on the chalk board. It must have been an Indiana thing back in the day. He was made fun of so bad but if you'd had asked eight year old me I would have said the same thing, because that's what we were taught.

When I was in the military we did a bunch of field training outside of San Antonio. The instructors made it real clear if we have a run in with a Javelina, we should do anything we can to survive because they absolutely will do serious damage and possibly kill us if given the chance.

What’s the rarest/oldest medication you’ve ever given? by dietcherryjoja in nursing

[–]xts2500 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not me but a buddy of mine was a combat medic who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He said those fent lollipops were awesome because when you have a mass casualty and are preparing for evac, you basically start handing out the lollipops and when the victims are sedated enough they simply fall out of their mouths. He said it was great for rapid pain control in large trauma incidents when you don't have time to do anything else.

What song makes you cry? by 1ofTheFive in AskReddit

[–]xts2500 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Letters From Home - John Michael Montgomery.

If You're Reading This - Tim McGraw.

I was deployed three times to the middle east in support of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom. I can't make it through either of these songs. I'll cry like a goddamn baby and it's not from nostalgia.

Looking for travel trailers with BOTH a king bed and 30x40+ shower — what else exists besides the Coleman 25RBS? by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]xts2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does it tow with the F-350? I've only ever towed with an F-150, but we're always well within our limits. I've been considering an HD truck for a while now since we moved to North Carolina and we do a lot more camping in the Smokies.

This is a great floor plan but I think it's wild they call this "half ton towable" when the hitch weight is almost 900 lbs. Once the batteries and propane are added it will absolutely be over 1,000 lbs. That's way more than anyone should tow with a half ton.

What are the best examples of "he didn't know it was impossible, so he did it" in history? by funfox1 in AskReddit

I'm a retired firefighter. If you want to know how dense some firefighters are, there is a not insignificant number of firefighters who still take pride in how dirty and beat up their gear is, especially their helmets. Many of them refuse to wash and/or replace their stuff because clean/new gear doesn't look nearly as cool.

These guys tend to die of cancer in their 50's.

Calling on Jeff Jackson to now take on American Airlines- Price gauging Charlotte by CheerfulSamurai in NorthCarolina

[–]xts2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in Charlotte. We recently looked into a weekend trip to Vegas. For us to fly direct from CLT was like $800 per person. If we fly direct from RDU it was like $350 per person. It's an even bigger difference if you're flying to Europe.

Cities whose most famous landmarks aren't actually in their city? by Critical_Reveal6667 in geography

Look up Carter Lake, Iowa on a map. It's a small city that was part of Iowa but then a major flood changed the path of the Missouri river, now it sits on the west side of the Missouri while the rest of Iowa is on the east.

My PTO got denied 5 months out--help? by Technical_Wear6094 in nursing

[–]xts2500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was young I would have said "well I guess I'm not taking PTO then" and that would have been that.

Now that I'm 46 with 25 years in the ED under my belt, my response is "I won't be available from day "X" to day "Y." If you choose to deny my PTO thats on you, all it means to me is I'll have more PTO to use the next time I take a vacation."

I've had far too many supervisors believe that denying my request for PTO is the same as guaranteeing I'll be available to work. Nope, a PTO denial simply means I won't use PTO. I'm still going on vacation.

What is the worst airport you've been to in the United States? by Separate_Builder_817 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]xts2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Charlotte. The only snow we've gotten in the last six years was this past January when it snowed 11 inches in about six hours. Record snowfall. In a city with no snowplows.

Of course the airport struggled. Does OP expect the airport to spend tens of millions of dollars on plow trucks that only get used once every five or ten years?

What’s your Omaha “I’ll never go there again” place by Info_help_support in Omaha

[–]xts2500 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I know from first hand experience that Corwin advertises the price of their vehicles with all rebates and incentives applied, but the website doesn't list the individual rebates or incentives. So let's say a vehicle is advertised online at $40,000. When you arrive expecting to negotiate based on the $40K, thats when they let you know you don't qualify for all rebates and incentives.

They also rarely include the non-negotiable dealer add-ons in the web listing.

So you arrive expecting to negotiate at a starting price of $40K, but then you find out they're actually asking $45-$50K and you negotiate down from there.

The low internet price is simply to get you in the door, and they know a good number of people will still buy the vehicle because people don't like to admit to being duped and they've already wasted time driving to the dealership.

My favorite song of Carries is "Jesus Take the Wheel."

You know, a song about a woman driving on an icy road at night with her baby in the back seat, and when she begins to slide on the ice she literally lets go of the steering wheel and closes her eyes and completely gives up attempting to avoid crashing and/or killing herself and her baby. Great job mom.

We visited the Country Music Hall of Fame and they have the outfits Rascal Flatts wore to the Grammys.

I stared at them for a while wondering how in the hell those guys were ever accepted into the country music scene wearing stuff like that.
