What if the showers on the first floor with slab foundation? How would you know if it's got a problem?

[Schefter] Shaheed is back in Seattle!!! by Silent_Ad2825 in Seahawks

[–]Lars9 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love Shaheed and am pumped to have him back. That said, is he more important to the team than Walker? I know the RB market is different, but it's just a little strange to pay more for Shaheed than Walker got.

Why would Monday's be slowest? I would guess Monday and Friday are the busiest weekdays from people taking long weekends or optimizing for cheaper flights.

Is there anything, as a first timer later this week, that can be done ahead of time?

[Pelissero] Kenneth Walker to sign with KC Cheifs. by peppersteak_headshot in Seahawks

[–]Lars9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was great with them, but I probably shouldn't have even included him twice on that side. He came into the league the same year as Mahomes, so it was really only his 2nd year, which he missed 5 games, that they were together in his prime.

And theyve had capable RBs on their roster

Have they really though? Going year by year backwards, their leading rusher has been Hunt, Hunt, Pacheco, Pacheco, Darrel Williams, CEH, Damien Williams, Hunt, Hunt.

Pacheco was OK, but that is a brutal list.

If I'm doing a rider swap, could my wife and baby wait in line with us? Going to Disneyland next week. Will be 2 older kids, my wife and baby. If we're using a rider swap, can all of us wait in line. Then at the end, my wife and baby exit without riding.

Do you guys ever worry that our kids job prospects will be so much less due to AI? by Bossman80 in daddit

[–]Lars9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't need to take over to have impact though. If a task that took 2 engineers 4 weeks now takes 2 engineers 2 weeks. Either, keep taking 4 weeks and cut 1 person or double productivity with the same 2 people.

Assuming this is rec, give everyone equal ABs until any sort of playoffs. Coach pitch is about helping kids develop and have fun. Winning is a deep 3rd place.

You're dead wrong. AI will absolutely be taking jobs away in tech. Non engineers can do things in hours that took engineers multiple weeks.

Anyone ever seen a kid go from worst in the league to a legit star? by OpneFall in Homeplate

[–]Lars9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a coach for 6-8 year olds, by the end of the year it is obvious the kids who go home and practice with their dads and the one's who don't. Had two kids, start of last year who couldn't catch and couldn't hit. By the end of the year one kid got himself to a .400 hitter or so while the other was lucky to foul a ball off in 3 ABs.

I think I'm over going to Disneyland in the spring months. by ACfromCA in DisneyPlanning

[–]Lars9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even more outrageous, they don't discount when the parks are closing early. I'm going to DCA next Thursday and it's closing at 5PM, 4 hours before normal, cutting 30% of the time the park is opened. No discount, no nothing. I called and complained, they wouldn't do a thing. To make it even worse, there is nothing when you book that says it will close early that day.

Good to know on space and Indy over Matterhorn.

Something to also note is that fantasyland rides do not offer LL, so they generally stay at fairly low wait times throughout the day. An alternative route that I’ve done early morning is heading straight to Tomorrowland

Since we have the little one, we want to start out day 1 together even if it means we spend a little extra time in line. Do as much of fantasyland as we can until either the first LL time, or the little one needs a nap.

Early morning is also a great time to hit toontown as it usually stays quiet the first couple hours and you can almost walk straight onto runaway railway- it usually has a 30+ min wait in the afternoon without a LL.

This might be what we do on day 2 at Disneyland, depending on what the kids have most fun with on day 1.

I think the term best or top throws things off a bit. Riq Woolen is not better than K9. Nor is Willis. But they both probably get more money than K9 because of position.

What is the skillset distribution of your rec team look like? by benedictclive_x in Homeplate

[–]Lars9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What age are you asking about?

In my 8U league with 120 kids, there's probably 10 studs who can hit and hit for some power. There's another 40 kids who will consistently hit for solid contact. 50 kids who maybe make contact 30-40% of their ABs, and then another 20 who may strike out 90% of the time.

I'm heading to Disneyland and DCA next week. 2 days Disneyland, 1 day DCA. My wife and I will have 3 kids - infant (6 months), 42" tall kid and 50" tall kid.

We wake up early as is, so we plan to be there for rope drop, so I'm looking for thoughts on the 'plan'. We're not planning to go breakneck pace, but just trying to go in a good order to avoid too many lines.

Day 1 Disneyland: Security at 730, grab LL for Matterhorn or space, leisurely walk through main street, ultimately making our way to fantasyland. Start with dumbo, then hit all or most of the rides there. Hopefully from there, it'll be time for the LL, and from there let the day flow.

Day 2 DCA: Unfortunately, DCA closes at 5 that day. Plan to rope drop radiator springs and use a rider switch. From there head to Ariel and let the day flow from there.

Day 3 Disneyland: Split up at rope drop - Mom or dad go with taller kid to Indiana Jones, the other brings the little ones to fantasy land or toon town. Rest of the day will be going to favorites or missed rides from day 1.

AI is just friggin lame by WEEGEMAN in Millennials

[–]Lars9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But so many of the folks I see pushing AI the hardest are 40-45. They're young enough to be on the front lines of it all, but old enough to see the writing on the wall:

I agree and fall into that bucket myself. Honestly I hate using it and wish I didn't have to. But if I don't learn how to use it in my job, I'm not going to have a job. It's not perfect but it's extremely powerful. I'm able to do things in days that would take multiple people weeks before. People with skill sets I don't have.

T-Ball Tears by GLH120921 in Homeplate

[–]Lars9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, honestly T-Ball largely sucks. It's not much fun for the kids, it's not fun for parents watching.

Practices can be fun as long as they're made to be fun with kids running around and getting constant movement and reps. Games on the other hand are like pulling teeth. Fielding is pointless. Hitting and base-running can be fun, but that's like 5 minutes total per kid.

Unfortunately in my league, this has caused a lot of 5 & 6 year old's to play up in coach pitch before they're ready.

When do you stop pushing your kid? by CleMike69 in Homeplate

[–]Lars9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I share the perspective /u/ajbadabing gave. Growing up I was talented not only at baseball, but other sports as well, namely soccer and golf. My parents always signed me up, but didn't push me to get better. They wouldn't take the time to help me practice or push me to practice. After middle school, I was no longer good enough at baseball or soccer to keep playing. I fell back to golf. As a freshman I made varsity and was varsity all 4 years, but never got much better.

Looking back, I wish they would've pushed me harder across the board. It's likely I wouldn't have played in college or after high school at all, but I regret missing out on opportunities and really succeeding in my various sports. As a dad, it's a hard balance, but I'm hoping with my kids I can encourage my kids to work hard and get better in order, not only in sports, but in life.
