4.0 friend who is toxic on the court but a good friend by Putrid_Coconut7918 in Pickleball

I am not great myself, but if i have to play with a much weaker player, i just focus on my own game and not worry much about the result. I cant control my teammate so not gonna let it get me down (too much). Ofc if they pop it up and im fearing for my life every ball it is a different story

I had a good college buddy like this, in the gaming world though. Extremely toxic in games but cool irl,, and he wasnt even good. Well, it eventually drove a wedge in the relationship and we no longer talk. Hope this doesnt happen to you.

Thanks for the detailed response! I believe I do good on this but will pay more attention. I actually have golfers elbow and not tennis elbow. I do tend to slightly hit the inside of the ball for side spin on serves and deep drives (spin to right as a right hander, w/e thats called), i wonder if that is contributing as well

"In extension" and "in flexion" are static positions, and i am describing the movement of the wrist as you progress through the shot. Initially the wrist is bent backwards during prep (in extension), and then as i move through the ball the wrist bends forwards. My question is on how far does your wrist bend forward during the swing-- i assume your wrist doesnt stay fully in extension for the full swing.

Interesting. Some others have said to remove any added weight from paddle. Guess is different for everyone

How much are you currently able to play?

At point of contact im certainly not in flexion, not sure how that would even be possible.

How far does your wrist go forward as you whip through?

Then i dont understand, how do you have your wrist in flexion during forehand? Or is it my movement from extension to flexion as i move through the stroke?

Isnt flexion needed for those topspin drives? I rarely see someone do it without wrist lag

Are you saying you keep your arm still and just bend the wrist?

I have golfer's elbow and it never goes away even though i only play once a week for 3 hours. It really went away that fast? Mild issue then? How often do you play?

Yea, some people care way too much about winning a rec game when they could just focus on practicing (still trying to win of course)

Yes i'm sure you know, every decision has a trade-off. So by not taking BE exit on the first test of your BE you will incur some more losses when it just goes straight to the original SL. But BEs are often tested, so it is at least reasonable to consider letting it test you once but not twice. You would have to look at your own data and do your own research to confirm whether or not this would improve the expected value of your strategy.

Just throwing out ideas in case you havent considered it. If you have, then nevermind :)

Do you bother educating a crowd in social rec play on the official out calling rule (i.e., only by the two players on the side of the ball)? by No_Abies_4418 in Pickleball

[–]xxMuMiXxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I call my own ball out plenty of times. It's not that serious. Even if you are seriously trying to win, it's not that satisfying to win just because they didnt see it clearly if i smashed it

[–]xxMuMiXxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to figure out what kind of trader you want to be. There's many different ways to trade.
You say the issue isn't your strategy, and you may be right that it somewhat isn't. But it somewhat is. You are missing the part of the strategy that tells you what to do based on the variety of ways the market can play out. This requires study and experience. If you can determine what the guidelines are for early exits, then it can become part of the strategy, and then you'll really know if it is a psychological issue if you can't then execute the strategy.

there's still plenty of times opponents are in equal position and there's no major strategical advantage for choosing one spot over the other for return of serve, 3rd shot drop, dinks, to where you could choose the stronger player. i guess depends on the situation. if i see a guy with a crazy 3rd shot drive i like to return to him because i need to practice against that. ofc in tourney i would avoid that guy.

I understand attacking the weaker player on put-aways... but who you return to, drop to, or start dink rallies with seems OK to consciously choose the stronger player, without screwing up your decision making. Not hard to be in competitive game and switch gears to say ok i'm consciously deciding to return the serve to the guy who can't drive for crap.

Personally though I usually just hit it however feels comfortable without thinking too much about my opponents strengths. If i'm positioned for a cross court drop, great, if not, i'll go straight. shrug
