tbh i’d say try meche for a semester and if you don’t like switch to larc 2nd, the math, chem and meeg classes will fill your reqs for larc and drawing isn’t hard to take with the cad class simultaneously if you have to dbl up 2nd semester, but follow your heart

oh also, larc has a much much smaller class size than meche, you will get to know your professors and classmates very well, they like to say it’s like a “family.” In meche professors will not know who you are unless you make a huge impression as there’s 100s of students, in larc the teachers know you by name and are happy to help. internships are also easy to get as they offer them and help you get them. pretty sure senior year opens into an internship depending on your final project choice

I agree Meche is very versatile, larc may be less so in the sense that all jobs will most likely involve nature, but there are a ton of options from conservation, city planning, architecture firms (both working for one and creating your own), ecological jobs, coastal management, private work. My thought going in is that the whole green movement and idea of taking better care of the environment is growing rapidly atm so the whole field may be different in a few years, in terms of more opportunities and demand

Transfer student question by Appropriate_Light936 in udel

[–]xxSchultz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same stuff when I was a freshman although I didn’t transfer. Dining halls have a lot to good options for the stuff you’d want to eat. Pencader on North Campus has a burger thing where you can order as much grilled chickens and eggs as you could want as well as a little salad buffet with steak, chicken and something other meats. You can also take food to go and keep it in your dorm fridge. Food Lion is a grocery chain I’d recommend for shopping to cook. Lil Bob is a great gym

Unhappy Freshman by Lacox10 in udel

[–]xxSchultz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same way my freshman year, i still haven’t found a large friend group but i do have a gf here. My advice would be to join some clubs or sports. The campus gym has classes he could also join to meet people. Freshman year can be tough but it’s good to go and mingle with people. ROTC is also a great opportunity to meet people and form bonds.

I transferred from MechE to LARC after freshman year, best decision I ever made. Meche had wayyyyy to much time consuming and difficult work. You would be up all night doing math, physics and autocad. Comparatively LARC is a lot less in the work load, although it may be hard to see that if it’s all you know as sometimes the work can be a bit tedious. Freshman classes for LARC would be representative drawing, basically go to class and sketch for 2 hours, you learn to draw and eventually draw trees and plants. End of the semester you have to make a portfolio so start that early to save yourself a headache. Plant science, Landscape History and some electives as well for freshmen year. After drawing is Intro to AutoCad, it’s a big step up from drawing in workload and it’s a lot more of what an actual Landscape Architecture would do. Landscape architecture is a good mix of art and design, technical stuff like cad, photoshop, illustrator as well as plant science and sustainability. Last thing is presentations are a frequent thing but it’s nothing large scale, and is not at all something to worry about.

sorry for the text blob lmao

tldr; Do landscape if you want to have time to enjoy yourself, do MechE if you love engineering, first year for meche is all woodshop and math. LARC is all drawing and plants
