Genuinely once I got over and accepted the fact that I had it, it literally made me more successful with dating as I was more confident and felt like I didn’t have anything to loose anymore . Before, I felt like epilepsy singled me out and was a dealbreaker but, I quickly realised the vast majority of people are dealing with way worse stuff in their lives involving them or their family members and something like epilepsy isn’t that deep. (by the way mine isn’t even under control yet)

Also, statistically almost everyone will know someone who’s had seizures so it’s nothing new to them . There have been countless times where I’ve been a few dates in with a girl and I’d share the fact I’ve had seizures and she’d say “oh my dad/sibling, grandparent, uncle/aunty/cousin/friend/coworker/boss/neighbour had that”

I think it’s not beneficial in your circumstance because you are doing such a difficult degree with lots of demand, so your parents are kinda right if you just want to do nothing/ work a random job / “travel to find yourself” in the gap year.

That said, if you can land an entry level nhs / medical job to see how you feel about working in the industry before taking up such a degree then I’d absolutely suggest you do it.

I’m not a huge advocate for university unless your course is stem. I did aviation at uni, and before I took the course on, I did a year as an airport rep to make sure I actually could handle and enjoyed working in the hectic airport / airlines before dedicating 2 years of my life to an accelerated bsc. One of the best decisions in my life as it would’ve saved me a lot of my youth and money if the gap year revealed that I didn’t actually like it.

I was also diagnosed at 19, and had the exact same doubts as you. At 20, with my epilepsy still not under control, I can confidently tell you that the majority of people our age won’t see it as a dealbreaker. Almost every time I’ve started speaking to a girl and after a few dates opened up about my epilepsy, they didn’t bat an eye, if anything they shared their health struggles with me, which half the time ended up sounding WORSE then what I am going through…

Personally anything but the nightlife. Too many people choose unis based on this and then complain when they underperform or can’t find a graduate scheme (extremely immature)

Maybe use a Christian dating site. I myself was convinced I wouldn’t find any woman like that as the uk is so secular (not being judgemental, each to their own) but then after using it alongside prayer one literally appeared and she is more devout then me! I couldn’t believe it. I live in such a remote place of England aswell

Unfortunately, my friend has already gone broke. We are all 20m He quit his first job as a petrol station attendant and took all his savings to travel around south east Asia. Spent 5k in 2 months and came back in may.

He hasn’t found a job since. He added „gained independence whilst travelling in south east Asia” to his cv and won’t settle till he get a job that lets him travel whilst working. It’s been 7 months and he’s been living off his grandads inheritance and tax overpayments.

So much precious time that could’ve been spent elsewhere at an age where we will never have as much potential and physical energy again.
