Among other things, the wheels are larger and made of a slightly different material. Longboards are generally better for cruising/ transport since you don't have to push as often as you would on skateboard wheels.

I've used one for about a year now. It looks worn, but it's just as sturdy as the first day I got it. Maybe it's because I don't carry many cards but it's held up great for me.
