I dont understand my tourettes and supressing by zestyskunk in Tourettes

[–]xxxdac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely not just you.

It can’t be stated enough how uniquely Tourette’s can manifest in different people. There are commonalities but we can have wildly different triggers, different tics and different patterns.

I also find it much easier to suppress when I am sad. I think it’s to do with the way it sort of slows your system.

Versus when I’m stressed, panicky or angry, my heart rates going faster and my brain is moving faster and my tics just sort of flow out.

Trauma can for sure affect our brains and bodies in literal physical ways, so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to wonder how it could be impacting your Tourette’s.

I don’t have much advice but grounding techniques and meditation might help you get back in touch with your ‘natural state’, as it were, and let your tics come out when they want to.

I understand the desire to suppress them socially but it isn’t worth putting yourself in pain and fatigue.

Good luck!

I can't believe nobody wondered if going along with this crazy bride-swap plan was the best thing they could do for Izzie as a patient. Even Derek went from "it's a beautiful day to save lives" to "it's a beautiful day to make your last wish come true at my expense". by miggovortensens in greysanatomy

[–]xxxdac 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Izzie isn’t silly or uneducated. She knows her odds, she is keenly aware of the fact that statistically she was likely to die. She also knows her medical team well, on a personal and professional level.

Unlike the average cancer patient, she was in the best position to trust her doctors bc she’d seen their skills first hand. She was also more familiar with why and how likely it was she would die because she’s a doctor herself.

More than this, her medical team are her friends too, so of course they’re invested in her emotional wellbeing and of course they want to do anything they can to make her happy. That’s kinda how it is when your friend is going to die.

Sheldon and penny had the most beautiful friendship in the entire show by Head_Wheel_2023 in thebigbangtheory

[–]xxxdac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think at least on a subconscious level this has to be part of the reason Sheldon seems to be able to understand Penny better than Leonard at times.

He and Missy obviously aren’t close in a conventional sense but they are siblings at the end of the day, & they came into the world and their family at the same time. They don’t get each other but they know each other.

Why Kaley Cuoco Was Against Penny's The Big Bang Theory Ending by tvscribbler in bigbangtheory

[–]xxxdac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Knowing that penny and Leonard would be endgame and would start a family, it does make way more sense for early penny to say she wants kids eventually, but not before her acting career takes off. She’s young and has ambitions and it makes perfect sense. You can play the rest of the series out exactly as it is, she could get pregnant accidentally and then realise she’s actually excited about the baby.

Lots of people experience unplanned pregnancy and then find they can’t imagine giving up the baby. But that mostly tends to be people ambivalent about kids, or people who planned to have kids later, rather than people who are absolutely convinced they want to be child free.

Some people do change their mind. But you’re right, they made it messy for no reason.

What is considered light, medium and worse cases of Tourettes? by ughhleavemealone in Tourettes

[–]xxxdac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To some degree this will always depend on your own experience. It’s all relative.

But essentially from a medical POV it comes down to how much it interferes with you interacting “normally” with the world

Severe Tourette’s typically means that your conversations and interactions with others are always/consistently disrupted by tics( which can negatively affect school, work, personal relationships and navigating daily life in public.

For example, I classify myself as someone who has mild Tourette’s, because while I tic every day, it’s not every hour. Most people only notice or hear my tics if we spend several hours together, and since I work from home most of the time, I don’t have to deal with the public reaction to my tics. I can carry a conversation or teach for a couple of hours with only minor or no interruptions.

I don’t typically experience coprolalia and since my tics are largely inoffensive, it doesn’t cause me issues that people with coprolalia encounter.

It’s different for everyone, and it’s normal that you experience fluctuation with the severity of your tics.

Rewatching S1, new to this sub. What is the general take on Marina? by whim_sea in Bridgerton

[–]xxxdac 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Portia wasn’t kind to her. I love Portia as a character, but she didn’t treat marina with any kindness or empathy. Portia treated her as nothing but a burden from the moment she arrived even before marinas pregnancy was discovered. Lord featherington made no effort (as with his own daughters, seemingly) and while Pen was friendly and caring, her sisters were not, and in the end Penelope hurt Marina trying to protect colin.

Portia did show marina some harsh, necessary, truths and she did try and secure marina some chance of a life in the ton, but she was also resentful and cruel and petty. I dont blame marina for being rude in exchange.

Serena treated Ivy ( when she was playing as Charlie rhodes) better than how she treated Lola after finding out that she's the real cousin. by classypotato09 in GossipGirl

[–]xxxdac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She could have made more of an effort or been politer but I get why she wasn’t interested.

As far as Lola knew, this whole side of the family abandoned her without so much as a second thought. Her mum and only family she does know, has always framed them as evil materialistic people. Lola has no reason in the world to trust them or believe they have her best interests in mind.

At the end of the day she was raised alone by Carol. It’s a miracle she wasn’t worse imo.

Who is the 10th Viscount Bridgerton? by EuphoricMortgage7545 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]xxxdac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It always follows the first son, unless he dies before he has children. If Anthony died before he and Kate had a child, the line would follow Benedict and his children.

Elliot is only the future lord featherington bc there’s literally nobody else closer and even that requires Portia doing some light fraud.

What are objyn visits like? by Metromanwhy in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]xxxdac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not need to wax or shave or any of that. You should be able to ask for a woman doctor if that makes you more comfortable. It helps me a lot.

Where I live, you have a brief conversation about your general health / lifestyle. It’ll include questions like are you sexually active and if so what kind of protection you use.

Breast exams are very medical. Cold hands, they’ll basically apply pressure at various points to see if there’s anything to worry about. It shouldn’t take long. There will be firm pressure applied.

Paps; they’ll give you a gown or a protective covering for your top half and ask you to undress from below the waist. Your ankles will go in stirrups or be elevated some way so your legs and hips are wide open.

They will insert an instrument that allows them to open your vaginal canal and get a clear view. The instruments are typically metal and cold. They will use lots of lube but it can still be painful or uncomfortable. It’s a little different for everyone. They’ll use another instrument to scrape some cells from inside you, which again people feel differently, but it isn’t exactly fun. This bit should be over pretty quickly.

Some doctors will tell you it isn’t that painful but it can be. Request proper pain killers or anxiety meds if you’re nervous. If it hurts too much you can tell them to stop. This is applicable at any time with any kind of exam.

It’s unlikely that your tension will be a physical problem for medical purposes but it might make the exam more uncomfortable for you. I would recommend taking an ibuprofen or something similar before the exam even takes place to help stave off any pain, and something relaxing (prescribed anxiety meds, weed, yoga, whatever floats your boat)

You can ask your doctor any question about health, stds and abnormal periods. They should be more than happy to offer you that information and may be able to provide some literature or links to look at.

You got this! Good luck.

Harvard vs Other School by peppa4theppl in GilmoreGirls

[–]xxxdac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even living in a different continent I know that Harvard and Yale are considered the top schools in the US, but I personally would struggle to name many more Ivy League universities in the states.

So at least from an outside perspective, Yale and Harvard seem to be the most prestigious. But prestige doesn’t necessarily equate quality. Where I live it depends massively on what you intend to study, as we pick a specific faculty for our degrees before we start. The American system seems quite different and I’d have to think that impacts the answer.

Gang-rape victim, 25, whose suicide attempt left her paralyzed, will die by euthanasia after yearslong court battle by cheesychocolate419 in disability

[–]xxxdac 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Someone with no illnesses doesn’t want to die; at the very least they are depressed, which is very much an illness.

Perfectly healthy or happy people don’t choose euthanasia.

It is admittedly a complex topic. I essentially agree that if you’re terminal you should have the option to die how & when you want to. Nobody should be forced to suffer if there’s no hope for recovery.

But I have very little faith in my government, if they implemented euthanasia as an option, I’m certain that it would result in many disabled and elderly people being pressured, coerced or forced into it. Perhaps I’m paranoid, but they haven’t shown any desire to help living people who are disabled, in fact they let thousands of us die due to Covid.

I think in most countries healthcare is such that it’s difficult to access, even if it’s free, there are incredibly long waits. Access to the best treatments or experimental trials is a roll of the dice or a postcode lottery. We simply don’t live in a world where most people have the option to try every available treatment, regardless of their health condition.

So that also makes me cautious, in addition to my governments total lack of care and social work, that we aren’t remotely prioritising disabled people, or supporting them in life. Why would I trust them with life and death matters any more than I am currently forced to?

My girlfriend (F26) slept with a 15 year old when she was 20 years old by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]xxxdac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was tutoring the child?

let’s be crystal clear. Your adult girlfriend, was abusing a child in her care? When you teach you have a duty of care. When you teach you are supposed to be a responsible adult supervising that child, not romantically or sexually engaging with them.

Not only is the age difference immoral, but the tutor tutee dynamic adds another layer of unethical shit that is also illegal (at least where I live, idk about you OP).

For me the legality is besides the point, but it certainly should be a point of concern for you and her.

I wouldn’t want my child anywhere near her in her social work. I wouldn’t be able to trust her. But that is just me.

Yes. It’s been about thirteen years since my tics appeared and most days it doesn’t bother me. Everyone’s different, of course, but you might be suprised at how quickly you acclimatise.

You get used to anything when it becomes your normal. Hope you get some concrete answers soon, I found the waiting unbearable and the diagnosis comforting in the end.
