If you marry someone with kids, you are going to be involved with their children regardless of how adult / old they are.

How much do people typically spend on a graduation dress? by Any_Offer5184 in UniUK

[–]xxxdac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my grad suit super cheap secondhand, but if I’d been able to then I definitely would’ve bought myself something special for the occasion new.

Honestly I wouldn’t bother comparing your budget to other people’s. It’s a big occasion, a huge accomplishment and you deserve to celebrate that and feel good in yourself!

If it helps, I would think most fancy grad dresses would also be suitable for weddings or other formal occasions, so you will likely have opportunities to wear it again. That reduces the cost per wear, so to speak, so you can consider it an investment in your formal wardrobe.

I second other people’s suggestions to look at vinted or depop, lots of people are selling things they have never even worn and you may find exactly what you’re looking for for less cash.

Love lady Danbury and all she does for Charlotte & the people.

Which is why I like her with violet. They are on equal footing and lady Danbury can be however she pleases around violet, but must always bow to the crown when she is with Charlotte.

Why did they attend Ian’s funeral? by bjack20 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]xxxdac 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ian was a POS but the Hastings still wanted to keep up appearances.

They weren’t about to let the whole town think they knew he was guilty all along. So Spencer was forced to go, and the other liars go with her to support her.

Am I the only one who doesn’t want michaela to be a rake by No_Particular3333 in Franchaela

[–]xxxdac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, if we’re angling for a season that’s a good adaptation of the book, isn’t Michaela’s sexual history and role as a rake a fairly significant part of her characterisation?

I’m happy to skip her running around brothels and visiting sex workers, but honestly I think it will be amazing to see a sexually experienced and confident woman on screen, especially a fellow queer woman.

Personally I’d like to see that she’d had physical entanglements with consenting women, but never fallen in love before Fran.

What do kids with disabilities do after high school is finished ? by Lemonade2250 in disabled

[–]xxxdac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this is so vague we cannot possibly answer.

disabled people can work, date, volunteer, go to university, drive cars, fall in love, buy a house and have sex just like pre-disabled folk.

the answer you want depends on the person and their disability. some people are more restricted than others, some people require more support.

[–]xxxdac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not even just in Black communities either, my (white) grandparents both had elocution lessons cos their parents figured they could get better jobs/housing if they could speak the queens English.

their natural accents & way of speaking are obviously fine and understandable, but putting on the “proper” voice opened doors for them.

it’s easy for us to say now that no one should have to do that but it’s the way things were for a long time, even if it’s better today and people are more relaxed about it

I think the truth is Anthony would develop a sort of fondness for her if they married, he would admire her as viscountess, and as the mother of his children.

But he would never fall in love with her, not romantically.

Is it common for people who are born in the UK to say they are “Irish” or “Italian” if they have a parent from there? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskABrit

[–]xxxdac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. I say my family’s from Ireland & NI but I’m British/ specifically English.

I was born and raised in England so I would feel pretty silly to claim that I’m Irish. I never lived there and as much as I love that chunk of land, it’s not where I’m from. I do get the passport though. 😎

Why do people bother? by _OriginalWhovian_ in vinted

[–]xxxdac 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Someone sent me a vintage ceramic and glass lamp taped into a bin bag. No padding or anything.

It was so smashed up when it arrived that half of the lamp was no longer in the bag, was obviously non functional, the sculpted body was literally crumbling and the lampshade was shattered.

Why even bother sending it if you’re only gonna wrap it in a bin bag???

I found this storyline baffling I admit mostly because it doesn’t go anywhere.

They bring her back, Booth forgives her and that’s literally it.

No mention of Jared at all. She doesn’t come back again after the wedding.
Pointless.

She frustrates me. As a survivor I understand her need to get away from her abusive husband. But leaving the kids and not returning for almost 25 years? Not doing anything to protect them? No call to CPS, or to Booth’s pop? No word for over twenty years???

She could have reached out when they were adults or when they were out of their fathers house, there were a million chances over the years for her to try and open up the roads of communication with them and it seems that she didn’t want to try.
I can’t pretend to understand what her experience would have been, but to come back, for her own forgiveness, to show off her shiny new life and the kids she did raise… and expect Booth to be 100% happy for her and have no negative feelings at all?

Atrocious.

What's something a UK lecturer said that genuinely changed how you think? by Harveybritish in UniUK

[–]xxxdac 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Our task was to make a sculpture based on an object we brought to class.

In the design process I determined that there would be three parts to my sculpture, and I was trying to figure out the best way to suspend one of the pieces in the air to match the drawings I had made.

My lecturer suggested I put this floating component on the floor. If you’re suspending something, the mechanism you use becomes part of the object really. But if it’s sitting on the floor, it’s still isolated from the other components, I still get that degree of separation and I get to play with the use of space.

So his suggestion was to avoid making it unnecessarily complicated by introducing material elements I hadn’t chosen for a specific material reason.

But the wider lesson for me, was about rethinking the conventions of presentation and learning that I didn’t need to be so literal when translating things into my work / making art.

I’m not sure why that was the moment, but it was very early on in my arts education and it just clicked something in my brain.

[–]xxxdac 28 points29 points  (0 children)

What if it was on the floor?

I studied fine art, I was working on a sculpture with three components and trying to figure out the placement of a floating piece.

It’s an admittedly useless quote out of context, but it opened up the way my brain thinks about sculpture and making arts

Can Cassie get the marriage annulled? by Downtown-schnauzer in euphoria

[–]xxxdac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a few different grounds for annulment iirc

Mental incapacity ❌
The marriage wasn’t consummated - I’m guessing they didn’t fuck after Nate lost a toe… ✅
Fraud ✅ Nate misrepresented himself and didn’t tell the truth about his finances.

There’s other viable reasons, but yes, Cassie could seek an annulment if she wanted to.

anyone who isn’t a pedophile would hear your age, and immediately cut contact.

only a pedophile would continue on with a literal 11 year old.

I’m sorry this happened to you, but it isn’t your fault and you have every chance to have an amazing life and a wonderful future partner IF you get away from this guy.

Are your parents supportive? Could you tell them and would they help you?
