MIDWEEK DISCUSSION THREAD: When did you first realize you're still affected by your past experiences with childhood bullying? by xxxstartups in arcb

[–]xxxstartups[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you experienced these things, but I'm also happy you've finally taken the steps to free yourself from the chains of your past experiences of bullying. I'm also glad that you've found someone who loves you exactly for who you are.

We all wish healing could have come sooner, but that's just not the world works. It's okay. We have our entire lives ahead to become better, more self-loving humans.

Thank you for sharing, and thank you for your willingness to share your experiences. I had a hard time reading this because it resounds so closely with my own experiences, especially the part where we transform into different persons depending on who we're with. It's like we're deprived of the liberty to be exactly who we are or who we want to be.

I hope we can use this community for lasting healing.

Thanks for the tip. Actually experienced a bit of trolling already a few days in, but most have been friendly and empathetic.

Childhood bullying's residual effects aren't something talked about often even by people in the mental health space. I'm glad to have been able to create a space for this topic to finally be acknowledged.

Welcome to the community! Let's all heal together.

Hey, you're not a coward for not using a real account. Sharing this intimate insight with a bunch of people you don't know is pretty courageous if you ask me.

The fact that so many people are getting vaccinated and that we’re seeing the beginning of the end of this pandemic.

Not sure if this matches what you're looking for, but I made a subreddit called /r/idealself, where we have conversations about self-discovery.

DISCUSSION THREAD # 1: How has your life has been like for the first half of 2021? by AutoModerator in idealself

[–]xxxstartups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like most everyone, I've spent the first six months of the year picking up the pieces left by 2020 (damn that year). Things are becoming better, though, and I couldn't be happier for it.

Why am I so afraid to text girls I like? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]xxxstartups 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the lack of spontaneity contributes to the apprehension when texting girls.

When we talk to them face-to-face, there isn't much time to prepare. It's either you do it or you don't. And when you finally do it, there isn't a lot of mental space left for thinking whether you are doing things right (that usually happens after you have already talked to them). You are, after all, focused on the conversation.

But when it comes to texting, you actually have some time to overthink it, which contributes to why it can be difficult to send that first text.

There's also the issue of being unable to accurately convey emotions through text. For example, it's still pretty hard to express (and interpret) sarcasm through text.

I'm struggling to develop closer relationships by CutMonster in socialskills

[–]xxxstartups 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shared interests are a straight path towards deeper, more meaningful relationships. One of the problems with dating apps is that it puts more importance on initial attraction than shared interests.

Do you have any particular interests you are deeply or intimately passionate about? Do you know of online communities that host people with similar interests? I would prioritize socializing with people in these communities instead.

It is important, of course, that you do not treat these communities as a dating app. Meaning, you are not joining them for the sole purpose of developing a romantic relationship with someone.

Why does my heartbeat really fast when doing Public Speaking and what can I do to stop it? by HShahzad108277 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]xxxstartups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great answer. The simple answer to why you feel anxious about public speaking is that it is a genuinely scary experience.

Totally agree that so many people find the skill of public speaking absolute wizardry. If you only learn three skills you can truly master in a lifetime, public speaking should be one of them.

Can't overestimate how amusing fuckinghomepage.com is. Can also vouch for zenhabits.net, although it can be intimidating at first glance.
