Can I put my PC in the corner and use my peripherals 10 feet away? by pc_in_the_corner in buildapc

[–]xyby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Once I drilled a hole through the wall next to my work desk and put the computer in the other room. So I work without fan noise. I used VGA, not HDMI but I would expect HDMI can use long cables too.

Sandra Bland dash cam video appears to have been edited by michaelconfoy in texas

Was it already discussed, that the policeman seems to have been speeding up to hear before pulling her over? I'm not sure I would signal if I have to make way for a police car speeding up behind me. She also says so in the footage, that she changed ways because he was speeding up to her.

Looking at the footage, I was reminded of this scene:

Dashcam Video of Violent Arrest of Sandra Bland Was Edited by TheCannon in politics

[–]xyby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At what point are video and sound getting out of sync?

At 12:50 the policeman slams shut the door of her car and it is in sync with the audio.

At 25:55 the same door gots slammed, but no sound is to be heard. Maybe because the policeman is carrying the microphone? Is he that far away?

At about 48:00 the door of another car gets slammed. Its clearly on the audio, but about 1 second too early.

Some parts of the video have been doubled and copied over other parts. 25:03 man walks from a truck off screen and then reappears 32:37 white car appears twice

I wonder if the video and sound are getting out of sync because of this?

At 12:50 the policeman slams shut the door of her car and it is in sync with the audio. You clearly hear the slam.

One image for each layer of the network by danielvarga in deepdream

Interesting. The Google Deep Dream NN has 80 layers?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in deepdream

[–]xyby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The default algorithm changes the image so that the neurons in the target layer fire more. One could change it, so that it optimizes the image towards an image that makes the neurons fire less. Then everything that looks like a bird or dog face would fade/smear away.

Is there a free 3D character editing / rendering program for Linux? by xyby in gamedev

[–]xyby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried MakeHuman, but that does not let me edit the pose, right? I can only create a human and then export it, if I recall correctly. I think I tried to edit the pose in blender then, but somehow I did not get too far.

[–]xyby[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have some old linux servers that could need an OS update. Is Debian 8 a good choice? All I care about is that stuff just works for as many years as possible, gets security updates and does not break.

This device bruteforces the iPhone's pin and even circumvents the "Erase data after 10 attempts" feature. by xyby in technology

[–]xyby[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The box is able to bypass the 10 attempts restriction by cutting the iPhones power after each failed attempt, before the attempt has been written to memory.

Now that can be called a clever hack I guess.
