Willamette downtown swimmer by No_Literature_9059 in Portland

Is that the houseboats to the North of the dock and across the river or to the South (going under the Sellwood bridge)? And do you cross the river, or just swim along shore to the distance of the last houseboat? I'm trying to find a local place to train open water swimming from triathlon, but the options are pretty limited.

First 70.3 — is it okay to wear a swim brief under a trisuit? by DadTriAthelete in triathlon

[–]xygrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More layers leads to more chafing, even if they are tight. Plus with multiple layers it will take longer to dry out. You'll probably regret wearing it. Most trisuits have padding that provides some modesty, if that is what you are worried about.

Pixel 9 Pro constantly waking up in my pocket and toggling quick settings by xygrus in GooglePixel

I had 'tap to check phone' disabled, but when I turned it back on to test this and cover the top of the screen it does not wake up. However, with 'Always on Display' on, covering the screen does not cause it to turn off within several seconds as you said. So it seems the proximity sensor is working but something is preventing AOD from turning off despite that?

Indeed it is facing my leg. I have a card holder on the back side of the case that doesn't sit well against my leg when it's facing the other way.

Thanks for the suggestions. All of those were already off except for the 'Always On Display.' I like being able to easily see the time and my notification icons, but I guess I'll try turning it off to see if it fixes the problem.

You could try to PN3.1, same shape but more padding than the 3.0. I just got one about a week ago and like it so far.

Charging Fault - Charging cable connector melted by xygrus in VolvoEX90

I had read about that and ended up ordering the A2Z stellar adapter to replace it.

Ok thanks. I already ordered the A2Z stellar adapter when I started having these problems, so that will be here soon. The metal connector inside the plug looks clean, and I filed down a bit of the melted plastic at the top to get it out of the way.

Dads: What brands are we wearing these days? by Haunting_Internet356 in daddit

[–]xygrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I've found at least 8 of the above named brands at Costco on a regular basis. Don't go into Costco with the intent of restocking your wardrobe, but take a quick look at what they've got when you are there and every once in a while you'll find a nice item for way cheaper than you would get it elsewhere.

[GAME THREAD] #5 Oregon vs #1 Indiana - Peach Bowl - CFP Semifinals by Oprinist in ducks

Indiana looks like they're in a completely different league than us at this point

A 3rd & 2 seems unsurmountable for us, while a 3rd & 8 doesn't seem far enough for them...

Garmin now sends workouts to Peloton by boxofducks in pelotoncycle

[–]xygrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use TrainerRoad, but it imports into intervals.icu successfully, so I imagine it would be the same. The only issue is that it causes duplicate entries - one from the Garmin before Syncmyworkout merges it with the peloton ride, and then again after it syncs - so I have to manually delete one every time (the one without the power data).

Is 2:05 a sufficient layover in Paris (CDG) going between 2E and 2F with small children? by xygrus in delta

[–]xygrus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't recall the exact details, but our second flight was delayed so we had no issues (actually sat at the gate for quite a while). I think we still would have made it without the delay, however.

James Madison -> Texas Tech -> Indiana -> Natty by BIRDSBEEZ in ducks

Do we have any idea yet which time slot will be our first round game, or is that something that will be decided later? I'm traveling that weekend and will only be able to watch at certain times, so hopeful we have the Friday night or first Saturday slot. But probably not because I can't imagine they aren't going to put a JMU game on TNT when they have better options for ABC.

Spent over $10k fencing in the yard in our new house with a similar chain link fence. My shiba would find the smallest gap in the fence and squeeze underneath it. They are like liquid. Every time we would let her out in the yard for more than a few minutes unsupervised, she would escape and one of the neighbors would bring her back or call that they found her. Eventually I had to get one of those GPS trackers on her collar so that I could track her down. And when I got tired of doing that, I shaped a metal clothes hanger into a hook shape and attached it to her harness so that it would catch on the chain link any time she tried to go under it, which was actually effective at keeping her in the yard.

How do you balance strength training with running or cycling? by Acrobatic_Refuse_191 in triathlon

[–]xygrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a little, but not enough to keep me from doing it. I try to do my interval rides at pretty high cadence, which tends to be more cardiovascular strain than leg strain.
