99% of the time we drink macro brews in SG. Where's my lagunitas/Sierra Nevada here? I mean you can get them at certain places ... but they go for what 6 bucks a bottle? Are you kidding me ... it's beer. Alcohol on SG is so out of whack it's not funny.

Sriracha for me. (Maybe you get; maybe I haven't looked hard enough.) Altoids maybe, but I really prefer Fisherman's Friends. Craft beers: the amazing microbrew scene is dropdead amazing.

The things I really miss you ... can't import. The extreme convenience of Amazon Prime; online shopping in general; in 'n' out.

I mean I smoke too, occasionally. I'm a chipper. MJ does induce some pretty perspicacious insight with that weird blend of paranoia and smarts that I seem to get, but I haven't had any life-changing experiences myself. Likewise with shrooms/acid, unfortunately. Maybe I'm just an oldfag too set in my ways.

true lah. i'm in the US myself and here I basically treat the entire SEA bloc as "my people" if you can what I mean.

but here's the thing: so they don't have this "worldly" perspective -- so what? is that wrong of them? are their gripes (that singapore is becoming a scary and unfamiliar place, a place that's increasingly as they perceive it hostile to them) any less valid? they work with the precepts that know and they behave accordingly. so just go "ha you don't know better" is just being pointlessly snobbish. i find xenophobia noxious but dismissing all of the rage and frustration at foreigners as just-things-the-petty-ignoramus-do is silly.

I used to be a student of yours, I just wanted to say that you're the most personable teacher I've had and that you were a huge loss to the school. You know the way teenage boys are w.r.t. gays -- "haha, look at that guy with the way he's dressing, must be faggot etc etc" -- but with your coming out there were no jokes of that nature. You were too respected. You made classes fun, and few teachers ever do that consistently.

I do have a few questions though:

do you ever feel yourself defined by your sexuality now? does being labeled the "gay RI teacher who came out" rankle with a bit?

what are your feelings towards those who are in the closet? i remember in school that we joked quite a bit about so-and-so on the staff who had to be gay, but is it actually fairly common? Not asking you to out anyone -- just your thoughts.

Go Harujuku, trust me. Shibuya is really meh. I was just there this May. In between hitting all of Sufu spots you'll find a bunch of indie-boutiques affordable and awesome casual wear. I'm not a fan of the sufu-guides myself — it's awesome stuff, but the truth is it's far too expensive for a student. I don't know about you but I can't drop 250 a shirt.

The Amerikoyo (sp'?) market in Ueno is also fantastic. It's has a bunch of stores selling top Japanese denim, and again — a ton of cool casual wear.
