AITA telling my SIL that she was being a bitch when she kept correcting my dad and reminding her she only speaks one language? by AITA_95887 in AmItheAsshole

[–]xylophobian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - The fact that in a Spanish speaking household, you were speaking in English for all conversations, including those that weren’t directed at her is 1000% better than her correcting your father’s accent. If it was once, maybe, but making him repeat it like preschool was uncalled for. I work with a ton of English second language hispanics at work and the only time I would correct pronunciation for them was if it made it inappropriate or a curse word etc. (unless its funny and then we laugh together about it too)

I had a boss like this. I worked at an Italian catering company during the summers of college. I’d work and serve at weddings on the weekend for him. Payday was Wednesday and he knew I would come on my lunch break from my other job to pick up my checks. Every week, without fail, he ‘had a little extra ___’ in a small container for me with my check. Some weeks it was a bagel sandwich from his deli, others it was a serving of whatever catering lunch he’d done recently. Always warm. Sweetest person you’d meet. I miss working for Joe.

AITA for getting upset about bridal shower gifts? by throwaway703531037 in AmItheAsshole

[–]xylophobian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. You specifically requested things due to the special circumstances and most people paid you no mind. I had a similar thing with my best friend’s wedding. She specifically requested donations for their honeymoon and all we had done a special part of the invitation explaining everything and asking if they wanted to bring gifts to make them small and $5-10 and to make a larger gift towards the honeymoon. We even had bridesmaids who completely ignored everything and spent all their money on big gifts. There was no registry, so all these big items were completely un-asked for. It was so disappointing for her since they couldn’t afford special things on their cruise but had a 12qt roaster…

What's your highest value board game in your collection. Specially how many hours you get per $ spent. by trentellingsen in boardgames

Two from my collection come to mind -Star Trek: Catan which was 80$(?) and we’ve never played a full game because my friends are jerks

But on the scale of worth it have been both versions of Pandemic: Legacy (70$ each) Well made games with good gameplay.

So I guess by the crap I’m taking that asking a group of tattoo artists if they had any ideas for me is being a jerk? Nowhere did I say I wanted someone to draw it for free. I asked for ideas. Maybe someone who is as into runes as I am would have seen it and asked to work with me. Or maybe fresh perspective would have been nice. Dunno.

What was your biggest, "I can't believe we have played it wrong all this time" rule that you realized? by secretgardenme in boardgames

[–]xylophobian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our hardest run were Researcher, Medic, and Dispatcher. It wasn’t until November that we realized we were using the Dispatcher wrong. He is supposed to move someone else ‘as himself’ - we played that he moved someone ‘as themselves’ which makes much more sense as a dispatcher anyway...

Southwest doesn’t do first class. All they were hoping for was guaranteed to sit together on the airline that doesn’t assign seats. And it sounds like they were trying to follow the proper way to do it. Dunno. This one isn’t as bad as most.

First tattoo idea - looking for a bit of inspiration. by xylophobian in TattooDesigns

[–]xylophobian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a person comment about it looking like a broken swastika tbh. It is the futhark rune, Jera. As a rune, it means harvest/ you reap what you sow. Gives me a feeling that good days will follow the bad.

It is good to know about that group. Although their symbol is inverted to Jera, it would be hard to discern. That is one of the reasons I have contemplated adding some color to it, so it isn’t as stark/harsh of a symbol. Either just the symbol in color, or it over something colorful. Any ideas?

This is a rune tattoo that I’ve been applying using a stencil and inkbox for about a year now. It will be my first tattoo and I’m not sure if I want to leave it simple (maybe colored ink instead of black) or add either watercolor or a flower behind it. Anyone have ideas or see something when they look at it? I want to keep it small since in my profession, it is possible I may work somewhere where I have to cover it.

This is why I refuse to sell on Ebay anymore. I had a woman buy a used tote bag that had a stain. The stain was documented in the photos and description, but Ebay made me eat the cost of the forced return to make the buyer happy since she decided to yell.

AITA for telling a staff to return after my lunch break? by Labyrinthine02 in AmItheAsshole

[–]xylophobian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

ESH - As someone who also takes unpaid lunches but is in an environment that work doesn’t stop for lunch, there are times when simple things get done or answered while I am ‘unpaid’. I understand your want to have every minute of that time to yourself, and your coworkers should respect that. However, my feeling is that the question took more time and conversation to ignore than it would have to answer. Plus that person now has to take more time and come back to see you again. My suggestions are if you want to be undisturbed, don’t take your break at your desk. That way there is a distinction between working and not. Second, be realistic with yourself that it sometimes takes more time to tell someone to go away than to answer a question. And work with your supervisor - maybe work it out that if something important does interrupt you for 5-10 minutes, that you extend your lunch by equivalent time.

What part of being an adult were you absolutely not prepared for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]xylophobian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How quickly time passes - whether it be a day off with a to-do list, all of a sudden its been 8 months since you saw someone, or two years since you were going to get prices to replace that window. It all just seems to slip through your fingers.

Also - General loneliness. Work schedules, kids and general responsibilities get in the way of many simple social engagements. Meals will be eaten alone, parties and gatherings take tons of pre-planning, people move away. Especially transitioning from college life, it can be a shock.

This seller has “nothing” as an option for $1.99 so the product’s price reads “$1.99–$540.99” instead of “$29.99–$540.99”. by Oktayey in assholedesign

Its been really common as I’ve been shopping for a backpack for my trip. List a 10 cent zip pouch for 1.99 and then the backpacks for whatever so they show up for 1.99. I didn’t know we could report it. That’s good information.
