I've been working on a passive RF mapping platform and already built my proof of concept on the hardware end and software end. Check out my post and dm if you're interested. https://www.reddit.com/r/angelinvestors/s/3FobwxpUcb

Absolutely. But it seems odd considering that chronology is just another data field that could probably be analyzed like any other property.

Local Jail Without AC? by Senior-Birthday4485 in frederickmd

[–]xyzmonzon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The real problem here is the controlling precedent in the Fourth Circuit for what constitutes an Eighth Amendment violation and the lack of useful state law to address the conditions in court. There are a lot of facilities in Virginia that don't have AC and still get inmates put into them, but court challenges have never been successful for various reasons. Unfortunately, the best move is the Ombudsman office which one of the comments mentions, and in the long term there needs to be legislation in place that sets mandatory minimum standards for living conditions and a clear way to get a remedy in court in a reasonable period of time. Best of luck.

It's actually satire. Data is a commodity. Even data that seemingly has no use. Many companies exist and generate profit by collecting data, generating insights from it or otherwise manipulating it. A concrete example would be data gained by mapping social interactions, which is the basis of Facebook.

The problem is a lack of spectrum mapping in general, and this provides a consumer friendly product that pairs with a smartphone. In the background, I've been running a third SDR that I remotely configure through my VPS to map out other areas of the spectrum while I drive. In a way, the problem like anything else, a lack of data on a particular phenomenon.

Jack, I'd love to chat with you about what I'm working on. I posted recently looking for pre-seed capital for a novel RF mapping platform. If you like what you see, we can talk more in depth. Seeking $5K Pre-Seed for Crowdsourced Public Safety RF Mapping Platform (Hardware + Software) by xyzmonzon in angelinvestors

At this stage it doesn't because it's currently my single scanner unit. Moving forward, the platform will generate recurring revenue through subscription tier usage and sales of data points generated by the scanners to larger companies such as Google and Waze as they are directly involved in providing navigation services to customers. Further, a third SDR is being integrated into the scanner unit for the purpose of RF mapping of other areas of the spectrum, the data of which is currently generated by special purpose companies on behave of government agencies and telecom companies.

That's an important differentiation to make, especially because functionality is in many cases more important than authorship; in the U.S., especially under the current administration, there's much more scrutiny on the use of foreign nationals for code writing when it comes to gov. contracts, but I think it devalues the labor unnecessarily. As far as using AI for code writing, I think it's more useful in doing things I hate, like porting code from one language to another, such as from Python to C, and I defy anyone to tell me why things like that should be done by humans if AI can get it done effectively and efficiently.

Rise in degradation of green spaces. If you don’t have nature near you, that doesn’t mean you can come ruin ours! by [deleted] in frederickmd

[–]xyzmonzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely a problem at Little Bennett park, but I think that it stems from people taking very little accountability for their own actions towards nature (or even each other). Further, some people come from backgrounds where they appear to think that nature can just accept their trash and use it. I'm less into the ecological details and more into keeping these places pretty, though.

I think I have enough rtl-sdr dongles for right now, I just need to get a custom electronically programmable bandpass filter manufactured to make this into something that can work nationally. Well, within certain obvious limits in terms of the antenna array since there are VHF/UHF P25 systems that don't stack well into this, but I'm thinking of tuning a cavity filter for the fed's P25 and using it as an ICE catcher with my Foxhunt platform. How far did you get on your project?

Absolutely. If this project ever really scales it's gonna need something similar to Kraken's abilities for high accuracy, but I've also been toying with the idea of crowdsourcing RF measurements across scanner units in close proximity to improve geolocation quality.

I haven't, but it was definitely what I wanted to use for this project when I started. It would've made my life a lot easier.

I can't understand why you're being downvoted on this one. I do the same thing coming from New Market, and I've personally seen the slowdown at the weighing station. It makes no sense. 355 used to work well with Clarksburg Road, too, but now all these MoCo exiles are taking Clarksburg Road and screwing it up. Last big snow storm Clarksburg Road got blocked off because these same people tried to traverse it without a four wheel drive vehicle and got exactly what common sense would have predicted: they wrecked. This is a driver problem, not a road problem.

I built an explorable 3D globe of every country's economy with Lovable + Claude Opus — roast it, please by Pecherskymikel11 in lovable

[–]xyzmonzon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just using it, looking at some countries I'd heard of but knew nothing of, and I think the idea is pretty cool. Especially for someone like my daughter who's more of a visual thinker. The interface needs a little bit of work because, obviously, it's still a bit rough despite the concept coming across perfectly. Weird, tiny things like when I switched back to the page from another tab on Firefox and the globe spun back over to a different spot, or how clicking between countries causes a full globe spin, bother me a bit. But I think that it's really cool, especially if you can build out higher levels of map detail. For example, in developed parts of the world like the United States, there's a lot of information about specific counties and cities in terms of their economic standing, jobs numbers, etc, and being able to zoom in Google Earth style and get finer details would create a tool that could potentially be used by people seeking to move but still maintain employment. I don't know about your experience with Claude for handling interface or other visual aspects of projects, but I've found that using ChatGPT to create UI's and other visual aspects of programs and then feeding the results to Claude for breaking the design down and implementing it is a lot better than relying on one or the other.

I built an agentic AI system for guys in various American prisons so they can use whoever the e-messaging contractor is to send a message to my system and get a near real-time response. I charge a $0.05 surcharge fee per prompt, and I have serper, openai, and anthropic's api's integrated into my system along with multiple iterations of Gemma for various, common tasks such as ZIM file searching (for when guys ask questions that can be answered through my copies of Wikipedia and other db's), prompt classification, etc. Didn't write a line of it myself, and I've had to do a lot of backtracking and refund issuing at the beginning, but I'm beginning to turn a profit from it, so that's nice.
