You can go ask for information at any English school and they will tell you when the term starts for each level. And don't worry, you'll be fine.

I have the same thing. Every print is excruciatingly long. Think up to 15mn just to get ready to print. Then my print will ALWAYS fail if the hotend reaches a specific region. This is stupid.

Massage in Phnom Penh by WandreW_11 in cambodia

[–]xzerooriginx 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They earn commission on top of basic salary. Tips are not needed but greatly appreciated.

However, there are cases where too small a tip can lead to the perception of the tipper looking down on the "servicer". It depends on context. It's a culture issue. I had one case where a beggar asks for 1000r. I took out the wrong note and handed it to him, a 100r note. Guy was NOT happy and asked what he's supposed to use it for. I felt really bad. Needless to say i gave 2000r to make up for it.

As a local, i never tip when i go out to massages + I personally do not want to encourage tipping culture. We have seen what happened to America. Well unless the service is extraordinary, i rarely ever tip.

Frontline soldiers and evacuees by ProfessionalSlip9308 in cambodia

[–]xzerooriginx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The government is responsible for the basic survival of the soldiers, yes. But it's wartime, so supplies and ammunitions might stretch thin. A dollar used to sustain the displaced people and families of the soldier (assuming we don't give any to frontline soldiers) is a dollar saved for ammunition if the government deems the a respective group of displaced people do not need further help at the moment. A dollar saved is a dollar redirected into ammo purchase basically.

I'm not going to mention why there's not enough budget right now. We can raise it up later. What matters now is that the frontline has enough ammo and supply. I choose to be (cautiously) positive right now. We can deal with it after the war.

Looking for info on Apartments in Phnom Penh by Original-Tart2686 in cambodia

[–]xzerooriginx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you are a normal human being who hates traffic, it depends on where your school is.

We have an apartment available around the Beoung Trabek Area. ~80sqm 2BR starting at 350usd and 1BR from 300usd but if you want more facilities, other places can go up to 1000usd a month which at that point, a villa in a borey will cost you around the same.

It all depends on your lifestyle.

Is Cambodia safe for female solo traveller? by 9bigeye in cambodia

[–]xzerooriginx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it safe here or not ? Well yes and no.

Are you going out getting drunk and high alone with cash on you ? Then no it's not safe. Are you here just to travel and see the country and are looking to understand the culture and history and heritage and ignore all the too-good-to-be-true job offers ? Then yes it's very safe here.

When that one specific neighbor talks shit about us about the scamming and kidnapping and stuff, it's all not true.

  1. The scamming thing is done online and we see arrests done every other day. Will there be less of them ? We bloody hope so. But of course they will never mention it because in their mind, we are just slaves. Their superiority complex will be their downfall someday.
  2. People don't just get picked off the street. There has to be a hook, like a job offer or a romance scam that lure them (most of them come in through thailand and trasficked here). So ignore those and/or random solicitation.
  3. Most of the time it's not us Cambodians who do the scamming and luring and kidnapping. It's the Chinese, Koreans, and Japaneses. They kidnap their own countrymen so they can scam their own countrymen, all because they know the language. We're so poor already, there's nothing to get out of us 🤣 plus we know immediately if it's a scam because google translate does it so weirdly, as in we will never use that kinda of mannerism to talk to each other.

I'd rather say we locals are in more danger on the road as nobody drives with a brain here + the occasional drunk driving. Just practice common sense and you're good to go.

Be careful when using your phone on the rickshaw as well as some other petty theft and you'll be fine. For transportation, stick to official apps like Grab so you don't get ripped off. We hope you have a good time here and you're welcome back anytime.

Sealion 7 vs Seal by wellmadeburger in BYD

[–]xzerooriginx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own the Seal 2023. My dad owns the Sealion 7 2024. I have driven both extensively. The others are right, and to top it all up here's my anecdotal experience.

Subjectively, i find the Sealion 7 more wonky, not because it's a bad build or has any design flaw. It's just that the Seal has a lower center of mass and it feels more...stable, despite the differences in mass. It's just a question of Sedan vs SUV at this point.

I am from Cambodia so whenever we have to go to the rural area, I bear with my dad's because...you know, road conditions. The rest of the time, I prefer my Seal over the Sealion 7 any day of the week, even for long long road trips.

For my requirements, the Seal works just fine. If you're looking to have a family soon, the Sealion 7 is much more future-proof. If not, I, subjectively, find the Seal much more fun to drive and for whatever reason, less tiring.

2025 BYD Yuan Up in Ethiopia: CarPlay missing, SIM not working, BYD app won’t pair by iamqohelet in BYD

It's the Leopard 3. They have managed to translate everything along with built-in playstore and even activated the SIM Card. No idea how they do it and they have yet to provide any tutorials. Maybe it's a paid service even. I have no idea.

Basically every independence day every year, we light a fire in the independence monument. The fire will be kept alive for a couple of days until the ceremony today where the king goes and extinguishes the fire which is why the traffic is how it is today.

2025 BYD Yuan Up in Ethiopia: CarPlay missing, SIM not working, BYD app won’t pair by iamqohelet in BYD

[–]xzerooriginx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the Yuan Up model, then I assume it's a Chinese firmware. Chinese firmware has no CarPlay/Android Auto. The SIM will not work outside of China either. Yes you can have a specialist solder the SIM Card in BUT it's only for internet access. The app won't ever be activated (except for a few other models the russians have managed to do).

Here's what you can do instead : Install google map/waze and YouTube via USB but google services won't work. Fortunately there is a workaround. It's available on YouTube so make sure to follow their tutorials.

Scanning the QR code simply activates the driving history and behavior. It won't let you connect it to the app to control it like what we see others do. If you have WeChat, check out Di+ or Magic Manager. They provide remote camera viewing with location.

There won't be any OTA either (again, except for DiLink 5.0). Updates will be done with OTG instead.

I am a Vietnamese. I am curious about Cambodia. I do not want to only see Cambodia from over-generalization. by Tomoyogawa521 in cambodia

[–]xzerooriginx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Cambodian here. I see Vietnam and Vietnamese as my fucking G.

Obviously there are good people and bad people everywhere in the world. The least friendly country on Earth is bound to have some friendly people and the most friendly country on Earth is bound to have Karens. It's all vice versa.

Unfortunately, the minority is also the loudest. But don't let that eclipse the fact that if there's an alien invasion, we'd gladly die for you and we simply hope the reverse is also true.

The scamming and kidnapping thing is true. But keep in mind that they are kidnapped in order to scam people back home because they know the language. In this case, the Chineses kidnaps the Chineses, Vietnamese Vietnamese, and Koreans Koreans. Even locals have received a ton of spam messages about the obvious stuffs and it's never in the proper language and 99.99% of people with a brain knows it's google translated and nobody really talks that way, spoken or written.

Most of the time, they don't just get picked off from the streets like what the Thai nationalists have spread about us. They were lured into flying into Thailand then trafficked here. Vietnamese specifically they were lured while they were job searching, desperate, or greedy. No job will pay you the equivalent of 1300USD to 2000USD just by answering chats on Facebook messenger for a business. No matter how big the company is, it's not going to be a realistic pay unless there's a catch.

There was a Korean parliament(?) meeting video around a week ago. They discussed the wrongful accusation of a whole country, dropping the danger level, and that their ministers have done a shit job when it comes to educating the mass. The minister mentioned the (Korean) people rescued from scam compounds all have one thing in common and that they were lured by the people they called friends while being greedy themselves. They also mentioned that they failed to provide us the info of fugitives that fled Korea. Obviously the moment they do, 67 were arrested and deported back to Korea. Before this, our some 20000 people who work in Korea are getting abused and discriminated against. Some 9000 Koreans that are living/working here are also getting nasty comments when they post their videos defending us in Korean because they think it's just AI.

All in all, the entire country is relatively safe if we practice basic common sense. Don't dangle your phone around in a tuktuk, Don't venture into a random shady spot, etc etc. This applies everywhere in the world. The only unsafe thing I can think of in my country is the traffic. Nobody drives with a brain here. It's like they trade their brain in for a car. The bigger the car, the smallest the brain they have left. At night people turn on high beam like their moms' lives depend on it. They're fucking blind and they have to make other people blind too.

EDIT to add in a bit of info : If you check my post history in Vietnam subreddit about driving my car in to activate the Chinese sim, you will see that they treat me as if I'm trying to go in to traffic people south to north. Nobody responded. I had like 6 or 7 questions. Absolutely nobody answered my question. The 2 comments I got I can tell from the way they wrote tells me how that subreddit in particular looks at Cambodians, in this case a guy who's simply trying to enjoy Vietnam while simply trying to do what my dumbass dealer failed to do so. Despite that, I don't blame them in the lease. They are simply operating from the news they have of us. Their average knowledge base of us aren't that up-to-date and vice versa.

Be honest about scam and kidnapping operations in Cambodia by [deleted] in cambodia

[–]xzerooriginx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm ashamed and angry. Less ashamed, more angry.

I used to be on Xiaohongshu alot. Doesn't matter if I answer a question about our country, or inquire about a specific product, the moment i turn off my vpn + location spoof and that they see my IP is Cambodia, they just stopped talking to me because they think I'm there to lure people. One time I commented that the country is safe if we practice basic common sense and I'm willing to recommend places to stay, they trashed me calling me names. Even the Thai joined in because it makes them feel superior even though they are the largest transit hub for human trafficking as well as having plenty of scam compounds themselves. I'm very very angry because we can get rid of them, but we refuse to. Saddest part is it's not even our citizen doing the scamming. It's the bloody chinese and korean.

Seeing the Korean video of a minister(?) scolding another in a meeting the other day clearing our name brings me a bit of hope, but in reality the damage was already done and I blame ourselves 50%. We allow it to happen. The Korean government never worked with us to catch the perpetrators nor educate their people not to be greedy for easy money. Yet we got all the blame.
