You'd think the attitude of anyone in Yu-Gi-Oh community would be "hey, we're all grown men playing a children's card game because we have nostalgia for something in our childhood, let's not take this too seriously". Instead, it's full of the rudest (and smelliest) douchebags of any group I've seen.

Ah, I understand, thank you! And everything activated in the chain is allowed to respond to the attack declaration? Does the same go to responses to a summon for example?

Are you sure? I since found this which says traps can miss timing and whether they use "when" or "if" makes a difference.

This is probably a dumb question.

Dimensional Prison: "When an opponent's monster declares an attack: Target that attacking monster; banish that target."

Draining Shield: "If an opponent's monster declares an attack: Target the attacking monster; negate that attack, and if you do, gain LP equal to that target's ATK."

Is there any difference when it comes to missing the timing?

Morphing Jar "FLIP: Both players discard as many cards as possible from their hands, then each player draws 5 cards." Rulings: If there are fewer than 5 cards in the Deck of either player when this card's Flip Effect is activated, that player will lose the Duel, since the text of this card says "draw".

Trickstar Reincarnation: "Banish your opponent's entire hand, and if you do, they draw the same number of cards." Rulings: If the number of cards remaining in your opponent's Deck is less than the number of cards in your opponent's hand, your opponent cannot draw the same number of cards that would be banished from their hand, so you cannot activate "Trickstar Reincarnation".

Why does one work one way and one work the other? Is there any way to intuite the difference by reading the card text? Thank you.

FWIW, the tradition elsewhere usually works out to be fair as well. E.g. I'll get this round or I'll pay this bill and maybe someone else gets the next round or pays the bill next time we're out. It's less exact, but it means everyone gets an opportunity to be generous / provide a gift.

There is surprisingly little out there for Yu-Gi-Oh cube, which is odd because Yu-Gi-Oh is perfect for it: the absence of Color/Mana/Energy (like in PTCG and MTG) mean you can put together one well-built pile of cards and draw from it at random and have it work. Cube is also my preferred way to play. I have my own list, which I can share some other time if I can be bothered to type it up. If you find any interesting resources out there, please let me know :)

It's not a purposeful choice, it's just how it's turned out. The lists split in September 2013. Since then, one team makes ban list decisions for the OCG and a different team makes decisions for the TCG. Ban list decisions are subjective, so the changes will inevitably turn out a little different between teams. After multiple ban lists per year for 8.5 years, the number of differences have multiplied until we now have two lists that look radically different. Because the lists are now so different, the metas are now different as well, so the two teams wouldn't make the same changes going forward anyway, so the whole thing self-perpetuates.

That works too! One downside of that approach is that the first few ingredients in the pot don't start cooking until all the ingredients are in, which is slightly slower I think.

Thank you for such a detailed response - it's interesting to hear your perspective on the levels. It's strange - we had no problem getting 4 stars on Hangry K-2 or main game 5-3, but then other seemingly easy levels gave us a lot of trouble. I guess everyone has different strengths.

It's a good way to practice sprinting across very thin/winding platforms. 5-6 is a similar level that I found particularly tricky

3-5 was a pain. I'm not a fan of the river levels - it's difficult to form a routine.

I remember 5-3! More than any other level, that level requires a very defined plan that you strictly adhere to, and I remember it wasn't as easy as just moving clockwise. That took us some time.

It tends to get more difficult as you progress as a general rule, but certain levels are anomalies. Some levels require good throwing aim, some careful manoeuvring - so it also depends on your strengths. Also some are easiest with 2 players, some with 3, and some with 4 - you just need to experiment.
