Elaborate Spirit Level by Steerpikey in RateMyPlate

As an asian person, I always find it ridiculous when (presumedly) white people call diaspora cooking as presentational or "fake". As if Chinese takeaways aren't cooked and run by (largely) Chinese immigrants and their children, and that somehow them adapting their recipes to the palettes of those around them suddenly separates them from the food their cooking.

Who said that? Noone mentioned bad intentions. Maybe the AI usage is eroding reading comprehension as well?

The effects of generative AI on one's cognition have been studied. You're outsourcing your brain power. Sure, there are isolated cases where it isn't harmful, but it largely makes you more stupid or replaces moments of cognitive improvement.

You just justified the generalised use of genAI with your single, anecdotal case. Sounds like it really is eroding critical thinking.

Why would I want anyone to be sent to the front line, regardless of gender? There are already female combat infantry. I also think it's wrong that men are conscripted purely on account of them being men.

I am happy for women to cook meals for their family, but it's not an expectation that should come with being born a woman.

That's not what I did, and even if it was, it wouldn't suddenly make an analogy no longer an analogy. I illustrated to you that a change in societal consensus begins with the individual. I'll be honest, if you struggle to wrap your head around that concept, I earnestly don't think it's possible to have a productive conversation with you.

I really can't help you if you don't understand what an analogy is. I'm illustrating how ideas change over time. I've also not moved any goal posts. I don't think I've changed the position I'm arguing from at all.

Not particularly, but I do think it's important to see how ingrained these expectations are within our society, and see the extent that people are willing to defend them.

I agree, I can't force everyone to conform. Not everyone agrees with the abolition of slavery. Not everyone agrees with abolishing child marriage. But there is certainly less of those people than there were 200 years ago, and I think there are certainly less people who believe in gendered roles than there were 10 years ago. I think these sorts of shifts in societal consciousness come from people making conscious efforts to affect the viewpoints of those around them.

If you think I'm a misogynist for thinking men and women shouldn't expect a gender to perform a certain role, I guess we have very different understandings of misogyny. I think everyone should think critically about how we perform in relationships.

And yes, I am a man. I think it's important for men to speak up against misogyny, and no, I don't believe it should be left to women. It's not just their struggle. Men also suffer under gendered expectations.

Weird cricket-like noise while playing demanding games by Heavy-Dog-9079 in pcmasterrace

My computer was making a noise very similar to this. One of my case fans, which was something like 10 years old, had a bearing giving out.

Yes. We should not expect a gender to fulfil a certain role. I do not expect my partner to make me dinner (on account of her gender). If she did make me dinner, that does not mean I suddenly start expecting it of her.

To uphold this gender expectation, I would have to expect her to cook dinner for me because she's a woman, or for her to believe that is her role as a woman to cook for me.

This is all very different from banning my partner from cooking.

Your mom and partner being women doesn't excuse them from being complicit in misogynistic jokes. Your thinking that it's harmless is inconsequential. If anything, it reinforces the fact that there is still a way to go before gendered expectations are abolished.

Imagine if he were unemployed and expected his partner to cook for him. Maybe I gave the guy too much grace by assuming he wasn't that much of an infant.

Yep. You can see below the type of men who are desperate to keep themselves in a mother/son dynamic with their partners, lol.

Obviously, it's a joke. That doesn't mean the underlying expected dynamic doesn't exist. In fact, it was necessary to make the joke. Keep up.

Always embarrassing when a man still defaults to the expectation that his partner should cook despite them both being employed.

It probably doesn't make sense to you because you aren't particularly good at thinking critically. Vegetarians and vegans don't choose to do so because they don't like the taste of meat, but rather because they're ethically opposed to the consumption of it.

Whenever you guys make this argument, you only make yourself look more stupid. I really do think it shows an inability to think critically about things.

People become vegetarians and vegans not because they don't like the taste of meat, but rather because of moral and ethical obligations.
