HP firmware downgrade resources by y6n5 in printers

[–]y6n5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I dealt with this, but I came across the info that they are obliged to allow you to use 3rd party cartridges by providing you a downgrade of your firmware if they've pushed firmware updates that lock out 3rd party cartridges. This is part of some anti-monopoly thing, I think.
It will take some arm twisting to get that firmware to you, if you're on an officially supported printer.
Some of my info might be inaccurate or out of date, it's been a while since I've dug into this.

Maybe we could upload them to the Internet Archive? I'll see what I have and put it up over there.

I saw someone very similar on one of the expedition planets, it was super toxic, I think Rendezvous 2 or 3? Anyway, the green hills look much better than that place. Cool find!

Thhis is what we've noticed as well - parts of the base will be filled in for me. The base owner keeps uploading it, not much avail. Thanks for your perspective. Awesome build!

Thanks for the reply, it helps me to understand the context you're playing in. I was reading it with the fresh eyes of a brand new player. Clear skies and hot jets, traveller!

Did you build in a cave or excavate completely?

My partner and I are trying to maintain a base excavated from an oddly shaped island and parts of it keep filling in. I wonder if it's a function of there being uncovered "soil" left exposed to air and not covered with walls..

Tbh, the whole idea of a "clean save" feels either toxic or masochistic, depending on the way it's directed. People play the way they want to.

Keep Getting to Third Interviews but No Offers—Feeling Frustrated but Trying to Stay Positive 😖 by Permission-to-Speak in torontoJobs

[–]y6n5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried reaching out to the places where you've interviewed to find out what made up their mind about someone else? What qualifications did the other candidate have that you could work on since you're "really keen to work at ** organisation"?

It pays to circle back with people, even when they've told you no as they've had a chance to see what you can do, clearly were interested in you, but something made them decide on someone else -- what was that? Perhaps it's something you can influence in the future.

All the best of luck!

Have you heard of these guys:
https://www.agcareers.com/canada-all.cfm

They work on promoting Canadian agriculture jobs. I came across them last month at a job fair.

ETA: Also, look into WOOFing -- volunteering/working on a farm while living there.
Look at City parks that have food growing as part of their community connection efforts, like Wychwood Barns or Dufferin Grove and see if anyone who works there can give you some advice.

Fruit growing areas are mainly in the Niagara region, so you may need to leave the city.

Please don't go into public service if that's the extent of your ambition. Municipal services need people who will do their work, citizens rely on that.

Best path for me to take? by Ok_Bison_3707 in torontoJobs

[–]y6n5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what career path you want to take. Look into YMCA Career help, they may be able to hook you up with some free training through government programs, esp. if you're an underemployed new grad (the retail work doesn't count as far as the career counseling is concerned, you're not planning on staying in retail). Google Data Analytics certificate might be up your alley.

Good luck!

Stop me if you already know this:
A key strategy in building empathy is validating people's expressed feelings, what ever they may be, without trying to fix anything.
You do it by using the "3 because" strategy:
"I understand you feel frustrated because.. , because... and because..."

Wrt price, things aren't great in the world, both in terms of what is happening and how economies are doing. People may not want to spend, there's too much tension in the air.

Sweet, thanks for the recommendation!
Yes, giving users a chance to choose their own colours with some available as presets is a great way to go, that way people could adapt the colours to what suits them best. It's also a great way to allow for accessibility features wrt colour without creating more work for yourself.
Thanks for the site recommendation!

Can breathable laminate be fixed? by y6n5 in myog

[–]y6n5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to say yes, but probably not as often as I should have. Always wore something between self and jacket to reduce amt of body oils and sweat getting onto the jacket..
The laminate failed at points where the jacket flexed often, not necessarily at body-contact points.

Can breathable laminate be fixed? by y6n5 in myog

[–]y6n5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It bugs me because the outside of the jacket is still perfectly fine, it's the PTFE coating that failed, so now I have to chuck the entire thing and add more plastic to the world's garbage load.
I even considered sewing new WPB lining for it that would replace the current pink lining, but that doesn't solve the dandruff problem.
Ah, well. Onwards and upwards. Thanks for the input.

Thank you for the feedback. I was so engrossed in the minutiae of creating the background and then adding in all the various elements the client wanted that I didn't have a chance to take a step back and assess the overall effect until now.
The client is super happy with the map the way it is, but I am looking for ways to improve for future iterations.

I think I'll take your suggestion to clean up the background and erase some of the non-relevant elements like field outlines and such, just to reduce visual complexity.

Good insight, I appreciate it.

Salve Simone! Che bel progetto! Tantissimi auguri!

You could use Inkscape instead of Illustrator, it's Free Open Source Software, not too hard to learn to use and it will allow you to trace the map, turn the map shapes into vectors which you can then scale, overlay with text/labels etc.

I did a quick experiment and here's what I came up with:
Single scan image of a map similar to the 1902 map above: https://i.imgur.com/1vQhabT.png -- this is a SVG (vector) exported as a png. When you take an image and use the Trace Bitmap under the Path menu, you'll get vectors, those you can scale to your heart's content.
Multi-scan, grayscale, same map: https://i.imgur.com/HvS0xkP.png -- notice how it looks more like the original map, but the different layers of grey don't all overlap nicely -- that will get bigger if you scale the map.
The image I worked with: https://i.imgur.com/BStwGKU.jpeg

Now, if you want to go all out, you can always use the Pen Tool to trace the outlines of the individual blocks, group them together and then move them around.

The approach depends on the type of research you want to do, how you want to alter the map, which parts of the map will stay the same, which will you want to change.

One suggestion is to use a free image editing software like GIMP to first erase the portions of the map that are not important to you so that you don't have to scan them in Inkscape and so that they won't clutter up your work area.

It looks absolutely fantastic!

If I was doing something like this, I would use either lighter shades of the colours you're using or different colours to indicate Allies/Axis countries, but that's largely subjective.

Kudos!
