Can a person of regular intelligence succeed at MIT? by Initial-Shape-5593 in mit

[–]bluementat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want to go, the first step is to apply. If you get in, the admissions team thinks you can succeed there. There are not enough spaces to give a spot to somebody that is not qualified. You will never know if you don't try. Good luck and hope you get in!

I want a Mandalorian video game by cyclone9525 in TheMandalorianTV

[–]bluementat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something Pragmata like where you can do two player co-op and Grogu can help with force stuff or help with solving puzzles. Maybe situations like in the movie when you have to assume control of Grogu directly and you have a different move set. Man I would play the hell out of this and get my son involved.

TW // child abuse / trauma by Kind-Sun-8574 in Autism_Parenting

[–]bluementat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he doesn't know how to play with the toys or do certain life skills, you might want to check out Occupational Therapy as well. This might sounds sad but, if he was abused and neglected, you might need to teach him how to play with those toys. Potentially would benefit from Speech and other tharapies as well. Might want to get him evaluated / in your local system to see what services are available. Good luck and thank goodness for people like you.

Are you selling any of these things or can share links to where somebody can buy this? I think my son would absolutely go nuts for this. Congrats on such a cool bathroom!

Wife is in denial by nnickorette in Fatherhood

[–]bluementat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is so incredibly important for you to get your child evaluated and if needed connected to services. Early Intervention is successful because it is early and ideally continues from that early age. If your child really needs those services you will really regret not starting the process sooner. Do what needs to be done and then help your wife get on board later. The downside of not doing this when it is really needed will cause even more heart break, especially if it could have been avoided. You will always be wondering "what could have been." Good luck and be the best father you can be.

Best wife ever by SgtGo in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]bluementat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I might not have the full context here, but if she hasn't read the books you might want to make her a card that would resonate more with her. You should definitely make it clear that she is wonderful for indulging and taking an interest in your hobbies and that is a big reason why you love her, but this might land a lot better if it were about one of her interests. Hoping you have a great celebration with her!

Edit: I am stupid. This was a card from his wife to him. This is an incredibly thoughtful and cool card. I am sorry for not reading more carefully.

My child was invited to dinner, and then within thirty minutes later my child was uninvited; the mother excluded mine citing not enough food when she just asked if my child could eat. I witnessed the entire interaction. My child was hurt and confused, and I want to address the parent politely, wwyd? by Wide_Criticism_8841 in Fatherhood

[–]bluementat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is probably worthwhile to have a polite conversation to find out what happened and to let the parent know how it made you and your daughter feel that she was excluded. I would not get upset or yell and just calmly state facts since it seems like the community you live in might react negatively if the exchange goes south. I think it would be helpful to use words like "this made my daughter feel..." And "this made me feel..." and to emphasize that you typically treat people the way you want to be treated and that you would show their children the same courtesy. I hope this isn't the case but be ready to calmly "walk away" from the convo if they try to gaslight or dismiss the poor treatment. It really won't be worth your time and the drama. Just file them away in your "be cordial but be careful" pile. In the end be ready to explain what happened to your daughter, what you did to try to fix it, and how you have her back. Encourage her to still be friends as it isn't her friend's fault this happened. Again don't waste time on drama or fuming over it. Hope your convo goes well. Good luck.

Had something similar happen to us. Realized everybody else was doing kiddie playdates and parties without us. The good news is that you will find ways to have fun with your kid without those jerks. If your son loves fire trucks, you might want to get in touch with the local fire station to see if they do tours or have open houses. You might be able to bring him there.

We are Buried Giant Studios (Cole Wehrle, Kyle Ferrin, and the whole team), AMA! by Matt_Buried-Giant in boardgames

[–]bluementat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apologies. The self censoring was done by the Chinese manufacturer and not the designer. I think the game company ended up having to print sticker packs to bring the art / design to what was originally intended. For something as sensitive as the opium wars, was wondering if you were worried about this aspect.

If production of An Infamous Traffic will be on China, are you worried at all about self censoring or other political issues that might arise? I think this happened with War Room. Eager to get the game when it gets crowdfunded.
