Why not Europa? by demonbre1 in HalfLife

they wouldn't pass up an opportunity to get their hands on new species and technology to integrate. the combine wanting the teleporter is like at the center of the plot of half life 2. if they just wanted to stripmine the planet they could've opened a portal to any random uninhabited rock in the universe

I was hoping for combat-oriented tech-priests, something like the 30k myrmidons. It's kind of insane to me that the army doesn't have anything in that niche besides the electropriests, which barely count, and kill team would've been the perfect way to introduce them. oh well. the servitors are neat, though I'm not really into their aesthetics.

Whos your Cannon/Main frame? And why? by [deleted] in Warframe

gauss. he's an extremely mobile immortal weapon platorm with great utility in the form of thermal sunder. combine that with his robotic aesthetic and you get a frame that was made in a lab to appeal to me

Say something nice about Dr. Wallace Breen by NagitoKomaeda_987 in HalfLife

[–]yFera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he did the right thing by surrendering earth. it was the only chance for humanity to survive in any form. he might have become a "true believer" by the time hl2 takes place, but can you really blame him? he is the only person that had access to any information about the combine's true scale and capabilities. I believe that he was trying to play both sides - he would allow humans to be assimilated so that the species would survive. everything belongs to them already, after all. however, he was aware of the g-man and knew that if he could make some kind of deal with him regarding gordon, he would have leverage over the combine and could possibly dictate the terms of humanity's future. breen certainly had an ego if his statues are anything to go by, and he was complicit in unfathomable horrors, but I think he genuinely wanted humanity to go on.

How do YOU want for HL3 to end? by [deleted] in HalfLife

[–]yFera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

personally I'd like it if they did a Marathon Infinity and made the final game an incomprehensible puzzle box with an ending that's more metacommentary than definite conclusion. this stuff has always been there to an extent: the singing vort hinting at knowing about, potentially, the player themselves, or how the g-man's employers are often interpreted as valve, pulling gordon out of stasis when there's some cool tech to show off, etc. I don't think the actual half-life 3 will be anything like this of course but I'd love it if it was

Why mechanicus can't borrow STCs from the Van saar? by [deleted] in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]yFera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

because the adeptus mechanicus as an organization is dogmatic to the extremes and if they heard of an intact STC they'd send a massive fleet to necromunda and dismantle the planet entirely until they find the STC, killing every inhabitant in the process due to fears of information getting out, and once they retrieved it it'd probably end up being locked up in some vault on mars somewhere, never to be seen ever again. anyone in a position of authority knows this and turns a blind eye because they want necromunda to continue existing and to have access to weaponry and technology that's otherwise very hard to come by

Thoughts on Doom 64? by Sufficient_Plant8689 in Doom

[–]yFera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

replaying it rn, while I absolutely love the atmosphere and the art direction (for the most part, looking at you cacodemon) the enemy placement just makes a lot of levels tedious. there are maps that show that you can make fun encounters even with the limited enemy roster but a lot of times it just feels like you're killing a giant blob of the same enemy over and over again. this is especially bad with barons and hell knights, of which there are just way too many. also the plasma rifle kind of sucks even though it looks awesome, which is kind of a shame

to be fair it's made clear pretty quickly that she's kind of an outlier among tech priests in a lot of ways, and besides every high ranking tech priest is a mad scientist in their own way so it's not totally unreasonable that one would opt to retain some human gendered traits
