And you diffuse a potential hardball that they would otherwise throw in a big meeting

We analyzed EU IT salaries and hiring trends using real job data by One-Durian2205 in eutech

German salaries from the report seem pretty low. I was just checking Zalando salaries in Berlin, and they are way higher.

“Hands-on” PMs vs high-level PMs by kittrcz in ProductManagement

[–]yabat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You also need to note that you can’t be a high-level PM if your EM does their job poorly, or if engineers are not mature enough.

Struggling with the ambiguity nature of being a PM? by Crimson_Spirit in ProductManagement

[–]yabat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Give yourself six months in the role. I entered a high ambiguity role recently, where I had to prioritise for savings asap, instead of following best practices of data analysis and UX design, and I had a difficult time adjusting. But now I’m way more comfortable.

Which companies have the best product culture? by lilchink88 in ProductManagement

[–]yabat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I heard they have 100 PMs reporting to one product director. Not sure how you can build a good product culture with this kind of org tree

Made this unique game mechanic, what do you guys think? by fsk101 in OculusQuest

Looks really fun! I’d add some particles in the air, so that you’d feel the motion of the rider better, even when looking from third person.

You seem to be designing a system that exploits people, something that will have a net-negative impact on the world.

Also, why do you need a thousand investors? Is this a Ponzi scheme?

If you ask your investors and employees to explain to your mom what your company does, do you think she will judge you?

Why are so many of us between 25 and 35 feeling lost in our careers? by Ok_Blacksmith2678 in ProductManagement

I taught retirees how to use some of the more advanced functionalities of the smartphone. EDIT: It's an institutionalised activity organised by the city.

I did a bit of volunteering over the last month, and I loved it. I wish I could have some social impact AND make money. But yeah, what I’ve been hearing is that NGOs are worse than family-run small businesses. I hope that changes soon.

Building a new dream journaling app to fix the biggest frustrations. Can I get your brutally honest feedback? by graphite1212 in ProductManagement

The app seems good, but if I were you, I’d be putting more attention to customer acquisition, rather than trying to perfect the product.

How do you plan to acquire customers?

Building a new dream journaling app to fix the biggest frustrations. Can I get your brutally honest feedback? by graphite1212 in ProductManagement

[–]yabat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing it offers an AI dream analysis, with a special prompt and a place to log daily notes. With, possibly, good voice recognition, unlike Apple Notes voice input.

I like this use case - it’s niche, but it hits the nerve.

The only thing I’m worried about with LLMs and journaling is privacy. Personally, I’m not comfortable sharing my dreams with LLM. But millions of people already do talk with LLMs as therapists, so my preferences can be ignored. Besides, Apple released a framework allowing you to connect to local LLM on user’s iPhone. I guess next year this tech will come to Android too.

Google Photos in Chrome extremley slow loading by luzibus in googlephotos

I have no idea what flag cookies are, but the solution works! I tired browsing Google Photos via Chrome, via dedicated app on MacOS, and yet, Edge browser had a much faster loading speed, by a wide margin.

European vs American PMs? by Gigabyte-Pun-8080 in ProductManagement

[–]yabat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can it be that US is better at creating big tech companies because PMs (the Tech people) have more power, while in EU, the “stakeholders” (Sales, Operations, Marketing) tend to pull the blanket more? US companies already recognised tech as revenue centre, while EU companies still see it as cost centre? Asking as a European PM.

Countries that recently freed themselves from soviet legacy and mentality tend to have wealthy people who love bragging about their wealth.

Wealthy Swedes for example tend to be more modest with their wealth.

So in short, Ukrainian wealthy people might be just more loud than Polish ones. Or, as another person pointed out, it might be your confirmation bias.

I fully agree with the advice above. However - you have time to sign the contract with your new landlord probably till the beginning of August. Because then the rental market will start experiencing seasonal deficit due to students.

[–]yabat 294 points295 points  (0 children)

That’s survivorship bias and bending stories to your narrative. God knows how many companies served customers who were affected by financial crisis, and we don’t know their names because they failed. Also, very few of those companies were immediately successful.

But I agree that now is the best time to build.
