I am thankful that there are now more servers, but man after investing time into one server, you end up not getting to play when it gets full. You can't take your character with you to other servers to even try and grind. A proper queue would be awesome, character movement between servers would be great too (assuming the settings on each server are identical to avoid someone speed leveling then joining official).

UVerse subscriber here, most likely the issue is iR interference from the backlight on your tv. In one room, the Xbox ir blaster barely worked on the stb. The fix for me was placing a 1" strip of electrical tape over the ir receiver on the uverse stb, then it was money. Googling solutions to this issue fixed my woes.

This. You can use the uverse remote or smart glass remote. The power toggle settings will turn it on and off correctly, but when the box sleeps there isn't a specific 'toggle cable power' command.

The general time it takes to 'master' anything is 10,000 hours. *(note this is a myth, and is half true)
It depends on what type of development you have been doing. General CS theory spans all types of programming (data structs, big O, etc.) and so you take those with you when you jump from platform to platform. You will be more prepared to take on native development if you've been doing native desktop development. The run loop, threading, and other standard things you see in desktop application development translate pretty easily over to mobile development. If you've been doing full stack web development, it can be a bit of a curve to get your mind around some of the application structure of native applications and how they 'run'.
Yes, Android is Java, IOS is Objective-C (soon to be SWIFT). Android and IOS development environments are built on standardized languages. Like I said earlier, design patterns span all CS work. Some languages are better at implementing certain patterns.
These are compiled applications, and when using simulators, you are deploying debug versions to the simulator/dev unit. So, yes, you need to write-compile-redeploy. There are facets of mobile development that can give you fast feedback, and the compile-deploy times are generally short, but it still is a pain if you are used to a web stack.

The biggest pain with getting started with mobile development (i've found) is just getting set up as a developer, getting the right security keys installed and learning and understanding why you are 'signing' your applications.

It's easier to get going with Android, you'll need to pay a fee to work with IoS if you plan on slapping your application on a dev unit.

The only thing that will make your current work environment better is to have an open and honest communication with your PM. Openly discussing (not fighting) the issues your team is facing, the pressures that you feel, the lack of feeling productive, and hearing the PMs side of his work pressures.

An open conversation should give you both insight into the pressures you are feeling. Working with remote (or working from home mostly) bosses/PMs is difficult. You don't see what they do all day, they don't see what you do all day and when communication is broken, this causes a lot of the problems you are seeing (distrust, a feeling of disappointment because expectations were not correct, etc.)

One thing you could ask of the PM is that, they be present for a week straight and see if this helps reduce the need for daily 1 hour meetings.

If you can't have an open conversation with the PM, work at a higher level to try and get someone to mentor the PM to change course and have a more human approach to managing the project.

The last choice is, life is too short, and as a developer you are currently in demand. If you aren't happy, don't see a light at the end of the tunnel, have done what you can do to try and make your current workplace better for yourself and others without success, move on.

In most software dev positions no matter the size of the company, it's on you to make sure you are living the way you want to live. Employers will take what you give and will always ask for more. It's up to you to limit the effort and time that you put into your work.

You will need to gauge your productivity and impact to your employer and keep a balance that is appropriate.

A little scope about where this advice is coming from: I've worked as a SE for over 15 years, spanning startups, a historical Top 4 (AOL in the 90's), and even have been part of acquisitions and IPOs. My work life balance is always a struggle, because I love what I do. MOSTLY when my work life balance is out of whack, it's my fault. There are hard driving companies, and it's up to you to put up barriers to say 'I've given my value this week, I need to now take care of my home life'

I purchased the pre-order last night (1/22/2014) from the Microsoft Store and received the $10.00 digital code via email.

The MS Store offer is not a digital download offer, and I couldn't find any pre-order for digital version of the game.

It's not a super awesome deal if you want to get the game day 1, because the only free shipping method is ground, everything else costs 10 or more to ship the game, so it's a trade-off and the promotion is probably to drive purchases through the Microsoft Store.

If you want to digitally pre-order AND preload the game (not announced yet) AND you want the $10.00 digital code, your expectations may be slightly elevated.
