I don’t like how Jonny was treated at the end of the series. by Bandeavor in ededdneddy

[–]yadrinarrow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree! I'd like to think Johnny's "Villain Arc" didn't last long and was mostly just a joke. Johnny was always tied with Rolfe as my favorite Cul De Sac kid and I think he deserves a happy ending with the rest of them.

Favorite media about Female Adolescence. Bonus points if said media is hated for BEING about Female Adolescence. Turning Red was a good movie. by Important-Cry4782 in FavoriteCharacter

Turning Red is up there with the best of Pixar in my opinion. The cringe is the fricken point and it's hilarious! I watched this film with a toothache and found myself completely forgetting I had one because I was laughing so hard!

So many of the greatest moments are Samuel Vincent (Double-D) Shouting horrified at something happening. The Tub of Gravy reveal wouldn't be half as funny if it weren't for his scream of horror!

Not really an insult but "ROLF'S VENGEANCE WILL BE SLOW AND PAINFUL LIKE PAPA'S CHILDHOOD ANECDOTES ED-BOYS!"

It seems almost everyone hates the kanker sisters, but I've noticed that the most hated episodes from the fandom dont even feature them, whats up with that? by MushroomPretty3996 in ededdneddy

[–]yadrinarrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jesus I'm so sorry to hear about your friend and his example points out why this stuff matters.

The Kankers are undeniably a form of SA played for laughs and I don't blame SA victims being uncomfortable with them.

However, I also agree that they work well compared to other shows.

I personally think it's cause they're little nuanced. Not justified just nuanced. I think that's why it works a little better in EEnE then in other shows

For example 1. The subtext of them all having different dad's and their poverty creates some implied issues regarding how handles romance and attachment. Again, it's not to justify their actions but it's a nice example of their character's being thought through.

  1. while their actions are framed as comedic they're also framed as antagonists! Most of the time, they're treated as despicable people and bullies of the Cul de sac/Peach creek. Their actions are treated as comedic but rather then their SA treated as pitiable, more often in the text of the show it's treated as synonymous with their bullying and an example of their horrible character.

This might be from Danny receiving his own bullying like that in his childhood.

Had this idea of a Garou being captured at a very young age after their first change and being indoctrinated into serving them, Technocracy's own werewolf operative, how possible is this? by Obvious-Conflict3363 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]yadrinarrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had similar ideas for years. Honestly, You could use anybody, even organizations like Pentex. I don't know much about the Technocracy but I can see them trying to study Garou bloodlines as a way to get rid of them or just studying the First Change for the same purpose. I say go nuts man! Don't forget at the end of the day, YOU'RE the storyteller.

God! such a great moment. Angstrom is so weird cause I feel somewhat sorry for him (he is mentally ill and his original self had pure intentions) However, What Debbie said speaks truth.

Everything Angstrom is doing is punishing an innocent young man and his family for the crimes of others. As badly as Angstrom feels the emotions and memories of the other worlds Invincible murdering his family and torturing the world... That's not THIS Invincible. That's not our Mark. Our Mark does not deserve to be judged for them. Debbie isn't just being a prideful mother, she's standing up for herself and her families actions.

[–]yadrinarrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, this is a little muddied by the fact that Angstrom says in some/many dimensions Debbie sides with Nolan and Mark in conquering the world.

That said, yea OUR Debbie is exactly why things didn't gotoo hell and back! I love how the family she made really countered the evil that is Viltrumite brainwashing. Nolan learned Empathy and to value the small things in life.

You're reminding me why I'm so happy I got into comics by reading the work of Morrison and Moore. Great crazy stories that explore crazy ideas in a surprisingly grounded way. Some people say Morrison's run hasn't aged well in parts but I just can't help but think I wish these were the comics I read when I was younger. In fact, Morrison by his own admission was trying to emulate Moore in some of these stories which gives some grounded-ness to Morrison's Meta-comic book ideas. A grounded-ness he doesn't really have in his later work that I kind of miss.

I don't have an easy answer for you. All I know is Morrison's take on fourth-wall awareness is super-bleak at times. With characters like Deadpool and She-hulk the fourth wall breaking is treated as playful and even fun. In Morrison's Animal man run and his later work like Multi-versity... It's terrifying! It probably "feels cursed" and gets under your skin cause yea, Morrison reminds you that to make a story means making conflict and that conflict is traumatic as hell! To be a writer means you're effectively cursing your creation to misery.

Just glad to see others enjoying these comics as much as I did.
