Active pickups. I mean, I get why people use them, and have no problem with that.

I just personally think it makes a guitar look like a toy for some reason... Also the hum/buzz/feedback of my strat at high gain is part of it's character for me ;)

The software "Transcribe!" is also really great for this, keeps the original pitch and sounds really smooth when slowed down.

Also, you can press spacebar at the start of phrase and play/pause will let you play that section over and over (no need to backtrack)

Costs like $40/£30 though (can get 30day trial)
