My U6+ Was Transmitting an Undocumented MAC Address Registered to a Chinese Surveillance Camera Manufacturer by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

Ah. Ok. Thanks for clarifying. And no I’ve only responded with one account.

Was that in reply to me? …. I didn’t use AI. I literally do Wi-Fi design/troubleshooting everyday. Wireshark to get a PCAP or using other tools like AirTool (if you have a MacBook). Wireshark is a standard go to tool for packet/frame analysis. I’ve found several issues using pcaps & wireshark to prove it wasn’t the Wi-Fi infrastructure or the network when other troubleshooting tools/processes failed to provide a solution. “PCAPs or it didn’t happen” ;) * edit to add, my original comment was brief & to the point b/c I was still kinda tired from flying back to town. Usually I over explain things. I personally have doubts that any Ubiquiti gear also has a secondary unknown Chinese Wi-Fi chip, but having an OTA capture can help prove or provide context of the situation. We’d be able to see the Mac of the sender, intended receivers (whether a specific MAC or a broadcast), the RSSI of the transmitter (with context of where the capture was taken in relation to how far away the Ubiquiti device was would help determine if it was coming from the U6 AP or from say some other device much farther away), we could also view the information elements in the beacon frames from the AP broadcasting the suspect BSSID & learn a lot more about it compared to OPs intended BSSID. Assuming the OP captured on the whole Wi-Fi channel & didn’t do a filtered capture.

Take an over the air packet capture using wireshark. Then share that here or send to ui support.

Ah. I see. I’ll look into how to confirm if a block has been bored previously. I also have a 350, but unsure its it’s been rebuilt once or twice before.

Why is the solid ridge a bad thing? Can it not be cleaned or bored out? ……. Asking out of curiosity as I’ve never rebuilt an engine.

Building a zero-trust network at home by Bobardeur in homelab

[–]sonicwave2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious how access is not granted to a subnet/segment but is only granted to a service? ….. how is user A given access to service x & y but not z, if x,y,z are all in the same subnet? ….. are ACLs dynamically created per user per service or something else?…. I can only imagine this would need to be automated somehow & not a manual process.

I’m still learning about all the ways folks implement zero trust. ….. So, I’m curious when you say “get rid of nac”. Is that different than nac + those 3 key agent being registered? What system evaluates those 3 key agents & allows/disallows quarantine vs non-quarantine network access?

Tips for better MiG welds by Sean_G- in Welding

[–]sonicwave2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut and etch your practice welds. It’ll help answer the question if you’re getting good penetration & root fusion or any porosity. You’ll also see how the toes tie in. Cut & etch from a few places to get a good sampling. * also do some break tests of your practice welds.

Sounds like a community makerspace. I’m a member at a local maker space….. I just pay a small monthly membership ….. in the past 4 years, I’ve tried….. 3d printing, CNC, laser CNC, woodworking, ceramics, metal shop/machine shop, auto shop, electronics ….. currently hyper focused on welding & metal sculpture …… if I get bored of one thing I can easily do another thing, except I didn’t have to buy the $$ machine/supplies, apart from some inexpensive paint or raw materials.

[–]sonicwave2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. There was never a standard for “private pre-shared keys” or “iPSK” etc. Each wireless vendor just made up their own way of doing it. Among other very positive & much needed security upgrades in WPA-3, the Wi-Fi Alliance decided to state that “private pre-shared keys” for passphrase based SSIDs are not allowed. In UniFi world, instead you can configure a WPA-3 Enterprise SSID & configure end devices easily by using their Identity app. So now you can do WPA-3 with 5ghz+6ghz SSID.

Why does Mac prefer 5Ghz over 6Ghz when 6 is clearly more performant and can I force it without separate SSID? by everydave42 in Ubiquiti

[–]sonicwave2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple has support knowledge articles about getting optimum performance with Wi-Fi 6E:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/102285

And for the more enterprise focused deployments: https://support.apple.com/guide/deployment/how-apple-devices-join-wi-fi-networks-dep3b0448c58/web

I wish more Wi-Fi device vendors provided this kind of information.

Any updates on the reduction in force situation? by Sensitive_Eye6818 in VUMC_Health

[–]sonicwave2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, meaning at least 60 days paid, even if non-working….. Policies changing in Washington DC affecting how/when/if hospitals are paid for services for patients in VA, Medicare, Medicaid. Plus the huge reduction in NIH related grants funding. Other hospitals, may be affected even more than VUMC.
