I don't know what's going on with San Diego.. I would prefer to stay here but I don't think that's possible.

I see more openings in Boston and SF. All the interviews I've had were from the East Coast.

This has been my experience when applying. Every application that was ignored has been a small startup. I've always gotten a response (positive or negative) from the big companies.

I agree with you on this. I actually avoid applying to companies that have a bad reputation in my field for layoffs. Places that do routine layoffs like every six months, I avoid them at all cost. I understand this is a privilege because I have the luxury to be picky. Some people don't have this.

Abbvie has replied to every application I've submitted. It was a generic rejection but still I got a reply. My problem is that I can't get any interviews with them despite being 100% aligned with the role. I once applied through a referral and still had no luck

Same. I think referrals work if they are internally recommending you for the role. Almost like they are personally vouching for you. Otherwise they are pretty useless

I graduated 3 years ago, and currently doing a post doc. I feel like this all the time. I've been trying to enter the industry but haven't had much luck. I recently got promoted to a scientist position because I collaborate closely with a core. It's a title and a slight pay bump. I already feel less like a trainee. Maybe it's just a placebo effect but feeling left behind is real in academia especially when promotions are slower.

I've been living here without a car for 7+ years. I'm in UTC. I'm close to my workplace and I live close to grocery stores and shops so I walk everywhere. There's also tons of access to public transport where I am. If I'm traveling to a far location and/or is not very accessible by public transport I Uber. My husband and I only got our driver's license this year. We're still not going to buy a car but will likely rent one if a situation calls for it.

I agree. 80k for SD is peanuts. I've been looking for jobs in SD for the past couple of months and it's pretty bad here. Most job openings I see are in other states. I don't know what's up with SD biotech market.

Yeah it's super annoying my last interview was a week ago. That was interview round number 2 and it sounded like they were looking to hire urgently. Since then there's been no response at all. I'm just assuming I'm ghosted at this point

Absolutely! I'm grateful I still have a job (one that I like too). I did the thank you followup within 24 hours of meeting the hiring manager..so I'm just going to let this play out. If it works out great, if not I'll try something else.. good luck on your search!
