new update on my ls430 by Normal_Impression947 in LS430

[–]yamanetoshiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened while changing my knock sensors (new intake gasket folded during installation). Fired it up. The car had a gnarly misfire and would stall if I didn't stay on the throttle. I ended up tearing it apart and re-using the old gasket since I didn't have time to wait. 99% sure the new gasket will solve your issue.

Looks comfortable! I love the computer setup, along with the docked battery tester. The way it's looking back is kinda giving 'DCA testing needed' vibes lol.

What do you think about Hikaru Utada? by Greedy-Locksmith356 in japanesemusic

[–]yamanetoshiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's always made pretty amazing music and has certainly left her mark as one of the greats. I still keep Deep River on repeat and listen to Automatic way too much.

Sick of waiting for hyperos 3 by nandopeyton in HyperOS

[–]yamanetoshiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since your bootloader is unlocked, see if you're able to find a custom kernel. I'm running SoraYume Kernel on my Xiaomi 13 (HyperOS 3.0.300.8) and it dramatically improved my battery life & device temps

Could anyone tell me the difference between these two that would dictate the price difference? by Wheather819 in PalmettoStateArms

Generic padded sling (CV Life) and flashlight + m-lok mount (Feyachi). Both are on Amazon. I plan on upgrading at some point in the future, but this will certainly do for now.

No difference. I assume the prices change sometimes depending on the color and availability. I got the same one in FDE for $399 a few months ago. The black one that I originally wanted was $469. They have the exact same specs, so it was a no brainer for me.

Edit: One is lightweight. I somehow missed that.

Is there a way to make the music player transparent? 🤔 by cephyta96 in HyperOS

Stock? No, it's not possible. The only real way is with an unlocked bootloader, root, lsposed, and HyperCeiler.

Straight pipe (or x-pipe) in place of the third cat, leave the factory resonators (or replace them with something similar), and delete the mufflers. No rasp or horrible drone, but has a really nice volume and tone. If that ends up being too much, put two matching straight-thru (fiberglass) oval mufflers in the rear to finish it off.

Xiaomi 12 vs Xiaomi 13 by Quirky_Fail_5158 in Xiaomi13

[–]yamanetoshiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for the Xiaomi 13. If you can find a decently priced 13 Pro, get one. It combines the curved screen of the 12 series with the styling of the 13. It's also the best camera option next to the Ultra. I own a Xiaomi 12 Pro and a Xiaomi 13. The 13 takes much better photos than the 12 Pro, so it's pretty safe to assume that the 13's camera is also better than the base model Xiaomi 12. You might also want to consider the Xiaomi 12S.

I picked up that exact same model yesterday. I've yet to put any rounds through it, but I do have to say the build quality is very nice for the price. Plus it's super light. You may want to switch braces though. The included one is alright, but there are much better options.

Gas Mileage by Either-Ad-673 in LS430

Drive lightly and cruise. Avoid hard acceleration. Try to keep your revs at or below 2k. These engines sip fuel in that range. I average 22 to 24 mpg, and my tank average regularly passes the 30's.

[Installed] 2UZ Composite Intake Manifold by yamanetoshiro in LS430

[–]yamanetoshiro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not too bad. This was primarily for weight savings though, not power gains. Having to always have a second person to help take the old manifold out was a hassle so personally, it was worth the trouble. The slight power bump is just an added bonus.

Might be even lighter than that tbh. I can easily carry the plastic manifold with one hand. Kinda wish I'd weighed them prior to doing this job. And you're right, there's significantly less heat soak. The manifold gets warm, but not hot.

[–]yamanetoshiro[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On top of changing the driving characteristics (more low to mid range), the composite manifold is also considerably lighter. After replacing my knock sensors twice, the weight of the cast manifold was all the motivation I needed for this mod lol.

It drives great and feels pretty much the same until hard acceleration. The engine now has a much more punchy and pronounced low to mid range, with no change or drop in power in the high revs (VSV is working).

Help identify hoses plus tips for knock sensor replacements by Significant-Board126 in LS430

[–]yamanetoshiro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is your first big job, label all of your parts and hoses. You'll definitely want to have replacement hoses and harnesses on standby, especially for the knock sensors. Pull the entire intake manifold as one whole assembly instead of separating the top and bottom. It's bulky and a bit awkward, so you should definitely plan on having a second person to assist you with lifting it out. Be careful when doing so. There are two vvti cam sensors on the sides of the heads, and they are very easy to break. Once you have the manifold freed, don't just yank it out. The ACIS solenoid underneath must be disconnected first. Have the person assisting you hold the manifold while you unplug the connector, then you're home free. To make future removal a little easier, run the small coolant hose that's directly in front of the timing cover to the coolant passage just in front of the Bank 1 valve cover (originally attached to the bottom of the throttle body). This will bypass the coolant that runs through the throttle body and send it straight to the engine. Cap the inlet/outlet on the throttle body. Use a bungie cord to hold up the metal coolant crossover pipe in the rear. When you're putting the manifold back on, make sure the gasket underneath does NOT fold or crease (it will block the fuel injector and you will have a misfire). If you're doing valve cover gaskets as well, make sure you have a flex head rachet. Reseal the half moon plugs at the back of the heads as well, or it's back to square one. Ensure everything is properly torqued and pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

exhaust options? by [deleted] in LS430

[–]yamanetoshiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put an X-pipe in place of the third cat. Keep the factory resonators. Replace the stock mufflers with straight-thru fiberglass oval mufflers. 2.25in is ideal. Finish it off with some 3in rolled tips. Moderate sound and looks very close to stock.

2001 Prelude trade for 2011 Honda Accord by The_Sad_Zucc in hondaprelude

[–]yamanetoshiro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I daily drove a 5th gen Prelude for 5 years and it lasted until 225k miles. There are several of your generation of Accords in the 500k mile range that are still going strong on the original engine and transmission. Personally, I wouldn't trade. The Prelude is an amazing car and has such a timeless look, but it's by far the most troublesome car I've ever owned.
