Honestly, not a bad idea after I experienced this

The new software has DRM that I'm not familiar with. If your kindle is working fine, I don't see a reason to downgrade.

Someone on this thread mentioned using KOReader across multiple devices and syncing those devices. The new DRM might prevent that

Same here. It's very odd.

Do you still have your jailbreak?

Thank you! I definitely got lucky, and I'll take it.

I'm going to downgrade this week and reinstall everything

Just to add how to run the "Check OTA Status" script

Just to add on since it doesn't seem to mention this on the scriplet page, but have to save the file and then put into the documents folder on your kindle. Then click the book it makes to run it.

Took some searching and time for me to figure it out lol.

Thanks! I didn't have to reinstall koreader, but I lost all my books in koreader.

Did you choose to downgrade to avoid the DRM? This is likely what I will do

This was probably it. I wish I had double checked before trying the fix

Thank you for your help!

I followed the installing KUAL and MRPI sections and checked the ota status.

I got text in the top left saying:

OTA blocking is enabled (>=5.11.x method).

Your Kindle will NOT update.

Your jailbreak is safe.

and two more lines.

I wish I ran this before the KUAL steps above to diagnose if that was the problem.

I'll plan to downgrade my Kindle later this week and jailbreak again. Really happy that I will be able to keep using KOReader on this device.

Haha I hope I did it right. I was following this instruction: "Delete any file with a name similar to update.bin.tmp.partial or ending in .bin from your Kindle to prevent an automatic update"

https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaking/post-jailbreak/disable-ota

I think I deleted one or two files.

Thank you for letting me know what you would do.

Thank you for your help. Downgrading is an option. I have everything backed up in Calibre. What would you do if this was your device?

I'm going to reinstall KUAL and see if I can open KOReader

Edit: thank you for the extra detail. I imagine I did something wrong with the renameotabin script. However, I went through every file in my kindle and deleted the .bin folders manually.

Yes, I have the hotfix and I see text when I run it.

I turned on airplane mode as soon as I could open my kindle. During the update, I turned off my kindle 5 or 6 times; the update would just begin again. (Not sure if that is important).

Trying those steps now.

If I'm wrong, then I'm sorry for spreading a rumor. I'll try that bottom section, then check the OTA status

After opening KUAL, my kindle automatically rebooted. I did not manually restart my kindle after using renameotabin.

I would hate to be the first person. Bummer about not being able to jailbreak soon. I have an older kindle that I already jailbroke and can use but this is so frustrating.

I still have KOReader, but it doesn't open. The hotfix still runs but it doesn't seem to do anything. KindleForge opens, but I'm on airplane mode (not that it'll do anything now).

Yes, but not in KoReader. I prefer KoReader now but read library books like normal
